News Hour | Race Report: Does the race report allow racists to flourish? with Denise Headley | 300 years of the British PM

Doreen Lawrence, who campaigned for 18 years for justice after her son Stephen was murdered by racists, has said a government-commissioned report that claimed the UK no longer had a system rigged against minorities could allow racism to flourish. “My son was murdered because of racism and you cannot forget that. Once you start covering it up it is giving the green light to racists. You imagine what’s going to happen come tomorrow. What’s going to happen on our streets with our young people? You are giving racists the green light,” Lady Lawrence said. Does the race report allow racists to flourish, and give them the green light? How significant are Doreen Lawrence's comments?
01/04/212h 15m

News Hour | Cross Question | Race Report: Do you believe the UK is not deliberately rigged against ethnic minorities?

The UK "no longer" has a system rigged against people from ethnic minorities, a review set up by No 10 says. The Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities said family structure and social class had a bigger impact than race on how people's lives turned out. It said children from ethnic communities did as well or better than white pupils, but overt racism remained, particularly online. The commission was set up after Black Lives Matter anti-racism protests across the country last summer - triggered by the killing of George Floyd in the US. Are you surprised by the findings? Do you believe the UK is not deliberately rigged against ethnic minorities?

Vaccination rates among black Britons are considerably lower than among white Britons. What more needs to be done to encourage black Britons to take the vaccine? What is the problem here and how can we resolve it?

News Hour | Scotland: What do you think about the Alba party? | Bangladesh Independence: How is this significant for you?

Nicola Sturgeon accused Alex Salmond of putting self-interest ahead of the country’s best interests as she placed independence at the heart of her Holyrood election campaign. In an online speech to the SNP’s campaign conference, the Scottish first minister refused to say her predecessor’s name but made a thinly veiled reference to his new breakaway party, Alba. What do you think about the launch of Alex Salmond's Alba Party? How problematic do you think this will be for Sturgeon? Landmarks and buildings around the UK have been lit up in red and green to mark 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence. News Hour | Pandemic: Do you support those calling for an inquiry? | Lockdown: How do you reflect on the last year?

Keir Starmer has this morning argued that “we owe both the NHS staff on the frontline and all the families of those who have died to learn the lessons” of the Covid pandemic and to hold an inquiry into the handling of the health crisis. How confident are you the government has learnt its lessons and do you support those calling for an inquiry? News Hour | Defence Review: Is cutting our troops the right thing to do? | Sturgeon: Does she deserve benefit of the doubt?

The size of the Army is to be reduced to 72,500 soldiers by 2025 as part of a move towards drones and cyber warfare. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said "increased deployability and technological advantage" meant greater effect could be delivered by fewer people. The review marked a shift from "mass mobilisation to information age speed". Is cutting our troops the right thing to do? Nicola Sturgeon has been cleared of breaching the ministerial code over her involvement in the Alex Salmond saga. News Hour | British Nationality: Do we as a country WANT to learn the lessons of Windrush? / with Denise Headley

British nationality laws are to be reformed to remove a number of anomalies that have recently led to people from the Windrush generation being refused citizenship – despite the Home Office admitting that its own errors led to them being ruled ineligible. The Home Office is considering plans to send asylum seekers who arrive in the UK overseas to be processed, an idea modelled on a controversial Australian system, it is understood. Do we as a country WANT to learn the lessons of Windrush?
18/03/212h 14m

News Hour | Cross Question | Vaccine exports: Is this the kind of behaviour you expect from the EU?

Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, has said that if Covid vaccine supplies in Europe do not improve, the EU "will reflect whether exports to countries who have higher vaccination rates than us are still proportionate". Post-Brexit disagreements between the EU and the UK have been heightened by the diplomatic row over the export of the vaccines. Is this the kind of behaviour you expect from the EU?

News Hour | Nuclear spending: What do you want from Global Britain? | Astrazeneca: Vaccine confidence

The UK is set to reverse plans to reduce its stockpile of nuclear weapons by the middle of the decade, as part of a foreign policy overhaul. The cap on the number of warheads will now increase to 260, having been due to drop to 180 under previous plans from 2010. Is increasing nuclear weapons and cutting international development spending what you want from Global Britain? The EU's medicines regulator has said it remains "firmly convinced" that the benefits of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 jab outweigh the risks. It reiterated that there was "no indication" the vaccine causes blood clots, after several leading EU states paused their rollouts. What's really causing this reaction and how is it affecting vaccine confidence?

He added it was "fundamental" that women felt listened to and he was "going to make sure that happens". Priti Patel and Boris Johnson say they're listening to women - do you feel listened to? Policing of the Sarah Everard vigil has increased interest in plans to give officers more precise powers to restrict demonstrations. The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is a mammoth piece of legislation that includes major government proposals on crime and justice. Vigils highlighting women's safety on the streets are being organised following the disappearance of Sarah Everard in south London. Reclaim These Streets events are planned across the UK on Saturday, and in Clapham, where she was last seen. What do women need men to do to help in this situation?
