Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 24-08-23: Getting All Defensive

It's Thursday and it's Podcast time with Richard Hughes and David Thomas this week - while Guy Henderson's suns himself in Portugal. But there is much to discuss after two good wins and a chat with Aaron Downes.Richard and David talk about Torquay's defence in the last two games, with only one goal shipped after that move from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 - and the emergence of Ollie Tomlinson as a first-team player. The duo also talk about the forthcoming games against Slough Town and Braintree Town over the Bank Holiday weekend - and keep their fingers crossed for a fit Aaron Jarvis.David also remembers former goalkeeper Andy Donnelly, who came from the town that Richard drove to on Saturday... Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 17-08-23: Recognising There's a Problem and Doing Something About It

Hello again from the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast team (Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson, with a little bit of techy stuff by Daniel Clark). This week the Podders go over the games against Worthing and Chippenham Town - so lots to talk about there. We also hear from Gary Johnson about those two games and the forthcoming visit to St Albans City on Saturday. Games are also getting longer and that might have an impact on players' fitness. Is it time to introduce five subs out of seven in the National League like the EFL? Even though the season has already started?Guy gets serious for a moment after some unpleasantness on the Popside, and then the duo get all misty eyed as Guy opens another of Mike Griffiths' Esso World Cup 1970 coins. Who did he get this time? Was it Bobby Moore? All the best to the Lionesses on Sunday - see you all next week.

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 10-08-23: Hit the Ground Running (Part 2)

Here we go again - the Podcasters, Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes, get together for a chat about that first game of the National South season, which was a 2-2 draw at Dover Athletic on Saturday. The chat includes a look at the game and what went wrong - and also what went right! We hear from manager Gary Johnson about that, too. Another talking point was the inability of Dover to find Torquay's website commentary team a plug socket, and Radio Devon's failure to get on air. And the fact that a Radio Kent commentary was the only way to listen to the game for Gulls' fans. And then the guys look forward to home games and the chance to 'Hit The Ground Running' Again! Seven points on the board by next week, says Richard. Wouldn't that be nice.

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 20-07-23: Back in the Kitchen Talking About Football

Hello again from the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcasters, who return after a three-week summer break to chew over the fat of pre-season. Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson talk about how the new Torquay United squad is shaping up - and how it has coped so far in two behind-closed-doors friendlies, and against Plymouth Argyle. It is interesting times following that positive 1-1 draw against Argyle, which has the fans looking forward to the season even more. Furthermore, is it Brad or Bradley? There is also news on the enigma that is Manny Duku - and Guy's mate Tom (plus lots more Argyle fans) say Finlay Craske could be a great signing after he starred against the Pilgrims. All good then, as Richard shakes off his jet lag and Guy shows off his tan. It's Exeter City on Saturday - and Guy is finally a paying customer, and has a card to prove it.

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 22-06-23: No Football But Much to Discuss

The Podcasters become a trio again as David Thomas joins Guy Henderson and Richard Hughes in the garden of the Paignton studio. You would think - with little news coming out of Plainmoor before the return of the players next Thursday - there was little to chat about, but with David being in the studio, there was much to discuss.Darren Moore's shock departure from Sheffield Wednesday, and the positive goalkeeping situation at the Torquay get an aring, while one former Gull has been signed by Watford after making a go of it in France. And there is a painful memory to dig up - as it is two years since the nightmare ending at Ashton Gate! The podcast will take a three-week break now, while Richard goes off on holiday, but will return with so very much more to talk about on Thursday, July 20. By then there will be much more news and hopefully some words from the Gaffer. Until then, happy pre-season, and enjoy the sun...

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 15-06-23: A Slow Chat in the Garden

We are slap bang in the middle of the quiet time really, aren't we? Signings are more or less done, and only a few weeks before the players get back for pre-season training, so for the Podcasters material is in short supply. However, the birds enjoyed listening to the two old men talking their way through the issues of the day while drinking coffee in a sunny garden - and we get the final four teams in Guy's rundown of who Torquay United will be playing in the National League South this coming season. Weymouth and Yeovil Town, it turns out, have their fair share of ex-Gulls players, while we learn we have never played Worthing, so them and Aveley will be new territory for the Gulls...Hopefully there will be a bit more news next week for the duo to get their teeth into - but for now, like the birds, enjoy the sound of two old men sitting in a Paignton garden talking about football. What's not to like? Come on you Yellows!

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 08-06-23: The Unprofessionals

In this week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast Guy Henderson is subjected to Richard Hughes' childish theme tune antics as he labours the Lewis Collins joke for another week. Don't worry, he will get bored of it soon. After the winger signed for Torquay last week, the hardly-dynamic duo muse over the quality of Gary Johnson's squad for the National League South season, and once again they look at some more of the teams that the Gulls will be coming up against - including the two nearest rivals. There is more friendly news, some congratulations for the Hammers, and banter about hummus to complete the journey this week - with pre-season now not that far away. Exciting, isn't it?

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 25-05-23: Back to Nature

This week's Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast goes back to nature, insofar as Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson are sitting outside in the sunshine in Babbacombe while the birds sing their songs around them. There is quite a lot to discuss, but after a couple of weeks of signings, there are no new players in the past seven days to talk about. There are many ex-players though, and Guy's looks at another five teams we will be playing this season in our alphabetical run-through. No tunnels this week, but plenty of musicians. Who remembers Thousand Yard Stare? Richard does.So get your cup of tea and biscuits, or do whatever you do while listening to the pod, and enjoy another instalment of the Greatest Torquay United Podcast ever known to man or woman - with added birdies, of course.Quick note - unless something dramatic happens over the next week, the pod will be taking a break next Thursday, and return the following week.
25/05/2331m 58s

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 18-05-23: Stobbs, Ash and More Fun with Tunnels

It's been a good week for Torquay United with two more signings announced - Jack Stobbs and Bradley Ash - and the Podcasters take a look at what that means to Gary Johnson's growing squad. The dogs get involved as Richard Hughes and Guy Henderson talk about the squad, and some speculation surrounding assistant manager Aaron Downes, and where Torquay might be playing their friendlies after it turned out they will be welcoming Exeter City, but won't be going to Buckland Athletic this summer. There is more tunnel fun as Guy talks about the second five teams in our alphabetical journey around the National South. Mick Jagger, Toploader and Farnborough's finest guitar heroes Mega City Four, and lots of former Gulls, all feature. The sun's out - enjoy it. You could put the Podcast on your walkman, but you will need a C45 tape for this one. However you listen, till next time, all together now: "Come on You Yellows."

Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast 11-05-23: Signings to be Positive About

Here comes the summer, Podcast fans - just look at the weather. It couldn't be more summery, right? While the players and the Gaffer enjoy their break, there is no such thing for the Podcasters as Richard Hughes joins Guy Henderson in the Paignton studio for more tomfoolery and high jinx.Expect chat about the four new signings - Mark Halstead, Tom Lapslie, Kevin Dawson and Ollie Tomlinson. Some good news at last! And some childish banter about tunnels. Really. Also, Guy starts his alphabetical journey through the teams the Gulls will be playing in the National League South this season - starting with Aveley (no, nor did we!)All good fun as the Torquay United Yellow Army Podcast begins to relax a little after that late-season drama. One might even say we are looking forward to August already. Come on you Yellows...
