201 | Birmingham Defeat & The Wild Week

It's been yet another tumultuous week for Leeds United. Following a disappointing loss to Birmingham City in what can only be described as "The Cauldron", the performance felt all too reminiscent of the good old Championship days. We’re joined by Darragh Cunningham to give his thoughts on the running of Leeds United. We’ve been left fuming as our ‘star players’ Gnonto and Sinisterra disappeared. Amidst the storm, the signing of Joe Rodon shone as a silver lining – at least that's a positive, right? The fans are clamoring for clarity from the club's ownership. Questions are abundant: Who will be joining next? Who's on their way out? Why all these loan clauses? 144 | Thumb Twiddling - International Break

We've been spoilt with recent international breaks as a lot of our heroes have been braced for overseas battle playing for their home nations - not this time! A fresh crop of injuries rules all that out, and maybe it's a good thing. Off the back of potentially pivotal results the break gives us some key talkings points: Jesse Marsch so far, survival chances, Disney Land. But the main talking points on everyone's lips, probably because it's a quiet time of the year with no club football going on - what'll happen at the end of the season to Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips. We discuss. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit

143 | Wolves (A)

Down and out at half-time. I don't think a fan, pundit - ANYONE, thought we were coming back into that game except for Jesse Marsch, and maybe that's exactly what this football club needed. Still loads to do in terms of improving the way we play but results are all the matter right now. I'm not sure we can cope with all these late winners. Get in Leeds! Learn more about your ad choices. It has been 16 years since we played Manchester City in the Premier League. Fair to say fate has treated us fairly differently since then. They have won the league, FA cup and seem permanent holders of the league cup. And sadly for them, they haven't had the joy of Marcelo Bielsa! In a game billed as master vs apprentice, the second half in particular did not fail to deliver, and Rodrigo's first goal in England since 2011 (and didn't they let us know it!) proved to be the crucial moment for Leeds as we announced that we can take points from the 'big boys' too. It makes for a somewhat excitable second half of the podcast, but it isn't every day that you pick up 3 points in the Premier League is it? Marcelo Bielsa makes 11 changes for this league cup tie against League One Hull City (Tigers). Plenty of optimism pre-match, with talk of Europe and a chance to play their way into first team plans.  Plenty of glimpses of what players can do, but a torrid night overall as Leeds trail for 85 minutes, and despite drawing the tie, go on to lose on penalties. There were lots of talking points including a captains role for Kiko Casilla, but ultimately a night that will not live long in the memory.  Back to the Premier League on Saturday for a game against Fulham, I fancy there might just be 11 changes again. For the last time this season, scratch that, for the last time in the EFL, we discuss our home fixture against Charlton Athletic. Lee Bowyer watches on as his former team mark a dominant, champions-worthy display by relegating his current troupe.  Recorded as close as possible to kick off, and then 24 hours later, we reflect on the game whilst being distracted by the achievements of the season. An opportunity to reminisce and wax lyrical about your Championship winning team, whilst not being told how amazing Barnsley are as Andy is busy moving house!  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit

74 | Match Day - Derby County (A) 19.07.20

It's little more than a year since the punch in the guts that our play-off defeat presented at the end of 2018/2019 and who could have written a sweeter way to grab revenge? Karma was served courtesy of the newly crowned EFL Champions fielding a weakened side to enjoy a 'guard of honour' from Derby County on their own turf and dispatch them 3-1 even after a weekend on the drink. We're back in the gazebos with the pressure off just having fun in the sun and toasting the lads from afar. Footballing weekends don't get any better than this. Learn more about your ad choices. That's it, we've done it, we're up. We hoped and dreamed but we could never have imagined, when the Leeds That podcast began only a year ago, that we'd be back in the Premier League by the end of the season. Here's a taster of the celebrations in Andy's back garden featuring champagne, prosecco and really strong beer. And this is only the start of the celebrations. Wait until it sinks in! 72 | Match Day - Barnsley (H) 16.07.20

We gather once again in the gazebo to see whether Barnsley can spring a surprise to upset our promotion charge - and why wouldn't they? After all, Andy's been telling us all season that they are one of the best teams in the league. Speaking of surprises, it will come as no surprise that Andy has also had one or more beers come the post-match chat. Leeds United are on the verge of history and, however surreal that might feel at 5pm on a Thursday night in July, it feels damn good. Join us on the Leeds That podcast to revel in it. The gazebos are packed away because of the unsociable 5pm kick off time but we get together remotely before and after a truly fantastic performance. Here we go again with another game under the gazebos as Leeds travel to Ewood Park without the 7,000 fans were originally expected on that Friday night back in April. In this episode, a reassuring calm settles over the Leeds That podcast thanks to a fairly comfortable 3-1 win and a six point gap to third maintained at the top of the table. Football is on the way back and, in less than one week, we'll begin our nine game march to the Premier League. That's if you believe Adam Forshaw, of course. Others are less willing to commit with the same confidence including Patrick Bamford who tempered those comments while speaking to the BBC this week. We discuss all that and more in this special, bonus edition of the Leeds That podcast. Andy and Paul speak to Jamie Keeble, Leeds fan and big boss at Yorkshire's Heck sausages. We play another round of 'Behind Closed Doors' and make our predictions for the season restart. There's talk about being a lifelong Liverpool fan, an aspiring guitarist and the hardest working member of the Leeds United squad (according to Liam Cooper). Paul quizzes Adam on how well he's been following his teammates appearances this season with a game of 'Play Your Players Right' and there's a very confident prediction about how United will fare once the season restarts. Long before we were all instructed by Boris to stay home, stay safe and save lives, Andy and Matt had the opportunity to sit down with former Leeds United defender David Wetherall.  We ask David's thoughts on not going on the title winning open top bus tour, scoring the goal that sent Leeds to the Champions League (whilst playing for Bradford!) and a very near miss at Stansted airport which could have gone very differently. In these strange times with no football we have found ourselves immersed in a world full of memes and repeats of old sitcoms- escape it for a while and take yourself back to a period of the club that saw much change, in a fascinating chat with a man who was right in and amongst it! Cardiff Away has been postponed, the football season has been put on hiatus, due to the ongoing worldwide crisis and pandemic COVID-19.  It's the sort of thing we've joked about for years - 'oh, we'll probably get to the last few games of the season on the precipice of promotion and the black plague will envelope us all, stopping Leeds United from being promoted' - Leeds, that!  But, it's more than Leeds That. There's bigger things going on that football, but as Jurgen Klopp correctly said - 'football, is the most important of the least unimportant'. We take requests on topics of conversation. 50 | Match Day - Brentford (A) 11.02.20

Matchday podcast featuring Andy and James we discuss our fixture down in the crapital.  Thomas Frank (Brentford's manager) made a big song and dance about Leeds United fearing his side - he was talking about the players but really he should have been talking about the fans. A meltdown following our Forest loss started to spiral on forums and social media and the last thing we needed was another loss.  Ghosts of our past both the same fixture last season and all appearances in the capital this were prepared to haunt us yet again. Thankfully it wasn't to be.  Leeds nullified Brentford, and if it wasn't for a sloppy mistak(iko)e - no names - we'd have probably won it. Ahhhh, Wigan Athletic. The hauntings of bank holiday 2019 still linger. A 10 man latics somehow beat a Leeds side dominant in all areas of the park - shots, crosses, passes, possession.  It's another high tempo, explosive performance from Leeds - on paper you'd say we were excellent if it wasn't for an inability to hit that leather thing into the onion sack.  The Bamford debate rumbles on, on the social medias, and we try and come to terms with a miserable result at Elland Road. 1-0 to Wigan. '1-0 to the Arsenal', so the boring chant goes.  Nothing to be ashamed of, in fact quite the opposite. Leeds United tear into a premier league side, who in the first half seemed to think it was going to be a walk in the park. Arteta's thoughts summed up the truth when talking about Leeds. Pre-match memories of that 5-1 horror show at Luton in 2006 melt away in the post match chat after a lovely late winner at Kenilworth Road. Matt parties all the way up the M1 back to Leeds before we re-live a hugely satisfying victory that really should have been a lot more comfortable. Our optimism proves to be warranted, there are accurate predictions on both the scoreline and the role of Patrick Bamford as well as somewhat of a premonition from Bryn Law. There's debate about whether Pablo Hernandez was deserving of praise for his first half performance and we take Izzy Brown to task for both his diving and inciting of the Leeds crowd. This pod contains optimism, happiness and giddy smugness. Don't you know pump it up, the whites are going up. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit

29 | Interview - Bryn Law

Bryn Law was the voice of Leeds United for BBC Radio Leeds during those memorable Premier League seasons of the mid-nineties. His time with the microphone took in every single one of Tony Yeboah's 32 goals for the club, the heartbreak of Wembley '96 and the transition from Sgt. Wilko to George Graham. In this episode of the Leeds That podcast, Andy and Matt catch up with Bryn now that he is back at the club with LUTV. He talks about those BBC Leeds days with Norman Hunter in the 1990s, his love for Wrexham and Wales and his time at Sky Sports which involved reporting on some of the most troubling moments in the club's history. Strictly speaking, Bryn isn't actually a Leeds United fan but he is very much a part of the community and, through many years of reporting on this great club as close quarters, he knows more about our ups and downs than most. 28 | Interview - Jermaine Beckford

Jermaine Beckford was with us at our lowest points, through our darkest days and instrumental in dragging us out of the League 1 wilderness while giving us plenty to smile about along the way. In this special interview, as we approach a decade since that January 3rd date, the Leeds That boys host Jermaine in the kitchen for Matt and Paul to take him down memory lane. Find out why Leeds United means so much to Jermaine in retirement, listen to the man himself describe the major events of his four years with the club and hear what the Chief, Lucas Radebe, said to him on that day of promotion against Bristol Rovers. 27 | Interview - Jamie Jones-Buchanan

It doesn’t matter whether it’s Rhinos or United, Jamie Jones-Buchanan is a Leeds man and a Leeds fan so what better time to catch up with him than the day he is presented with the Leeds Award for services to our fine city.   Jamie joins Andy and Paul to discuss all things Leeds and Leeds United and look back on a glittering Rugby League career that took in more than 400 appearances for Leeds Rhinos, a hatful of super league titles and cup wins as well as the honour of representing England and Great Britain.   The big question, of course, is would JJB trade all of that for a career wearing the white shirt of Leeds United at Elland Road? 26 | Match Day - Blackburn Rovers (H) 09.11.19

We are really getting into the swing of things as we head into the final international weekend of 2019. Leeds have gone unbeaten since the last break and sit in a great position, in the mix, at the top end of the table.  In this episode; Andy, James, Paul and Matt chew the fat over a good three points against Blackburn Rovers that (as is customary) could have been a lot more comfortable. Listen in as we talk Bamford, Harrison, Ben White and the match officials. There's a prediction from a celebrity guest, a proper attempt from the club to solve the catering issues in the North Stand and the latest update on Tracking Wolves. Awooooooooo. 25 | Interview – Marc Brine

Marc Brine is perhaps best known to Leeds United fans as the brains (and hands!) behind Marc’s Corinthian Repaints, an operation he founded to fill the demand for classic Corinthian football figures in different and exciting kit combos.   He’s repainted figures for entire football teams, a number of household names from within the football world and various overseas collectors and has increasingly moved into other figures beyond Corinthians. He has a huge collection of Leeds United specific repaints.   In this episode, Paul and Matt speak to Marc about what being a Leeds fan means for him, how he got into the collecting and repainting game and reminisce about some classic ‘Leeds That’ moments. Marc is also our second interview subject in a row to have gone to University with Matt. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit

24 | Match Day - Queens Park Rangers (H) 02.11.19

Leeds United were back at Elland Road this week for the visit of QPR and a win that could almost be described as 'straightforward' compared to most others this season. With James on family duties; Andy, Paul and Matt travel to the game and discuss a welcome three points, our formidable start to the season and the never-ending debate around the pros and cons of Patrick Bamford.  Meanwhile, Paul ventures to sit in the West Stand with his nephew leaving Andy and Matt to welcome a new face in the North Stand who makes for some 'high pie' entertainment in the post match chat. Andrew Dalton is Leeds born and bred and perhaps better known to most Leeds United fans as @lufcstats or even just 'Stats' thanks to his encyclopaedic knowledge of the club and his special skill in being able to recite every Leeds United result, in order, for the past 30 years. James and Matt caught up with Andrew in the week of the club's centenary celebrations following the publication of his book 'An Official History of Leeds United' and ahead of his first signing session in the club shop at the Birmingham City centenary game. Leeds United travel to Hillsborough for a rainy test against Sheffield Wednesday. Marcelo Bielsa lost on both occasions against Garry Monk in 2018/2019. This time out his Leeds side turn a corner, getting a hard fought point in a bloodless 0-0 battle in the steel city. We catch up, pre and post match. James is at home with his Nan, Andy’s roof's been leaking causing him all sorts of bother and Paul travels through Spain on a coach transfer.  It’s Matt’s birthday - and in classic Leeds fashion, we’ve failed to ever win on this date - that’s EVER - in our entire history! 20 | OCTOBER 2019 - 'Centenary Celebrations'

Recorded on the morning of Leeds United's official centenary fixture against Birmingham City, our October podcast is a whistle stop tour of the club's celebrations, Leeds That style. Andy brings back the crowd-pleasing 'Where did they come from? Where did they go?' by (actual) popular demand while James introduces a new feature all about left feet. Nathan's coffee shop finally comes alive just in time for the festivities and we speak to Andrew 'Stats' Dalton (@lufcstats) all about his experience as a guest of the club at the official centenary gala dinner. Stats then stays with us as we play a special game of 'The Catch' featuring a cameo by Marc Brine of Marc's Corinthian Repaints in the role of Sadly Balsh. 19 | Match Day - Birmingham City (H) 19.10.19

It's Leeds United's official centenary fixture and this is what our 100 years of existence has been building towards. A routine second division game against Birmingham City. OK we might not be at the peak of our powers as we head into our second century but at least a weekly dose of Bielsa ball is something to cheer. There was plenty of quality football on show at Elland Road but this was a familiar tale of domination, missed chances and a single goal. In fact, the only sign there was anything different about this match was some streamers, pyrotechnics and a fancy £150 shirt. Listen out for a cameo from Pat 1, Pat 2 and Eddie from Cork in the Centenary Pavilion pre-match and somewhat of a disagreement in the post-match chat. Leeds That. Learn more about your ad choices. 18 | Match Day - Millwall (A) 05.10.19

There are some wayward predictions from the Leeds That camp during part one of this match day podcast but, really, we should have known that a trip to the New Den rarely ends well. This particular visit was spoiled by a Mr J. Linington of Newport who took one look at Gaetano Berardi's face, pointed to the spot and brandished a red card in the early part of the game. It was all uphill from there. We try to dissect a miserable and unfortunate day in the capital, our second in the space of a week, and attempt to pick ourselves up as we head into another international break on the back of a defeat. We bring you our thoughts from around LS11 including a car parked on Lowfields Road and from inside the Centenary Pavilion before Leeds United put in a winning performance against West Brom and Patrick Bamford finally comes of age in the lone striker role without even scoring a goal. It's fair to say there are mixed opinions about the merits of the Carabao Cup within the Leeds That ranks and Andy's so disinterested that he doesn't even bother turning up for the game. Meanwhile James, Paul and Matt are left to dissect the first defeat of the Leeds That era and reflect on what might have been.
