The hiring chain

In our most ambitious episode to date, we have not 1, not 2, or 3 but 4, yes FOUR guests on this episode. It all started with the viral campaign called &aposThe Hiring Chain&apos from Italian organisation CoorDown. CoorDown&aposs mission is to advocate for the rights of people with Down&aposs Syndrome, and this year on World Down&aposs Syndrome Day (March 21st) they released a campaign to encourage businesses around the world to employ people with Down&aposs Syndrome. The beautiful video, with a song stung by Sting, shows the power of representation, and the impact of seeing people with Down&aposs Syndrome in work. We sat down virtually with CoorDown&aposs Head of Communications, Martina Fuga, Alison Thwaite, Employment Development Manager from the UK Down&aposs Syndrome Association&aposs WorkFit programme, Superintendent Damian Pettit from the West Mercia Police and his colleague Bethany Greaves (plus Dad!), who found her job at West Mercia Police through the WorkFit programme. We talk about the Hiring Chain campaign, how companies can work with the DSA and the importance of a rich and diverse work force. It&aposs a great chat and one of our most favourite to date. Living with covid

So it’s been over 8 months since the first lockdown in the U.K. since then we’ve had a second lockdown and recently the introduction of Tier 4 – essentially localised lockdowns. On the lead up to Christmas, just before Tier 4 became a reality, we caught up with life coach John Tench, who we lovingly know as Fish, aka the Shoreditch Coach to talk about the surreal movie we’ve all been living in for the past 8 months. How people have coped, and how we can help ourselves and others. If you’re looking for more professional support, you can reach out to John on Instagram @theshoreditchcoach or via his website https://www.theshoreditchcoach.com/---Keep up to date with us over on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (@agoodgoodthing) and don&apost forget to rate, review and then subscribe so you don&apost miss the next episode.About your hostsJackA New Media artist currently undertaking a PhD in virtual reality, Jack is motivated by the positive impact technology can have on our day to day lives both operationally and emotionally. Fashion Minority Report with Daniel Peters

The Black Lives Matter movement, a global network that builds power to bring justice, healing, and freedom to Black people had a watershed moment this year with the worldwide protest in response to police brutality. The movement has inspired a generation of activists and organiser to fight and dismantle systemic racism around the world. One man who made the decision to affect change in his own world is Daniel Peters. The fashion industry has long had a problem with diversity across hires of BAME / POC and female professionals, and it is high time that businesses and brands be held accountable for this lack of change. Menswear designer, marketeer, event producer and avid Beyoncé fan (naturally), Daniel has launched the Fashion Minority Report – an opportunity to push for a reform of the industry by championing existing talent and nurturing future fashion stars. In this inspirational chat, we talk to Daniel about the birth of the FMR, his own personal experiences of often being the only person of colour in the room, the benefits to businesses of having a diverse and inclusive staff base and why, in the words of Queen Bey, those who struggle to get a seat at the table should empower themselves to build their own. “As some businesses within the fashion industry take to their social media to whisper about what they plan to do internally to address the racial disparity, it is essential that the fashion community and the general public hold them accountable."Add your signature in support of the Fashion Minority Report on https://www.fashionminorityreport.com/And ensure you follow the Fashion Minority Report on Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/fashnminorityrpt/

Taban Shoresh and The Lotus Flower

Jack and Neil are joined by aid worker, women's rights activist and campaigner Taban Shoresh. Iraqi Kurdish by birth, Taban's family were persecuted under Saddam Hussein's regime. After being imprisoned, Taban, just four years old at the time, alongside her family Taban narrowly escaped a mass live burial and the family eventual arrived in Britain. Fast-forward to adulthood, Taban was working in the city when she decided to leave her promising career to start the Lotus Flower,  a non-profit that supports women and girls impacted by conflict and displacement. Made up local implementers that work at the grassroots level to get right into the heart of the communities, the Lotus Flower has helped countless women and families restart their lives after the devastation of war and conflict.  --- Keep up to date with us over on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (@agoodgoodthing) and don't forget to rate, review and then subscribe so you don't miss the next episode. 2019: a good good review

We're back! We know it's almost February but Happy New Year to all! We hope 2020 has been full of good good things for you already. Before we crack on with 2020's good good things, we're taking a moment to reflect and look back on some of the biggest stories from 2019; from tales of trees and the mobilisation of the world's youth to successes in the fight against climate change and human rights wins across the globe. Plus, Jack's new obsession with Gregg's vegan sausage role. So sit back, relax, put your headphones in and let the good times commence. Putting Her Forward

Do you know how many statues there are of real women - excluding queens - in the UK? 25. That's less than 3% of the total statue population.  Or at least, there were only 25, until artists non zero one doubled that number as part of their Put Her Forward project. We talk to Cat Harrison about the project, why making statues of women is important, and how they choose the 25 living women to be immortalised in sandstone. Jack also tries to convince both Neil and Cat there's more to seaweed then just that gross slimey feeling you get when you wade in ocean. Reasons to Stay Alive

Reasons To Stay Alive is the bestselling memoir of author Matt Haig that relives Matt's battle with depression and anxiety. The book starts where it all almost ended, on a cliff top in Ibiza and charts his road to recovery. Since it's publishing, the book has become a reference point for conversations about anxiety and depression and their effects. It launched a public conversation around mental health and how we navigate it in a modern world. The book has now been turned into a play, which is touring the UK offering a new audience a way to connect that is both educating and validating. This week we're joined by the play's director, Jonathan Watkins, to talk about bringing Matt's story to the stage and why plays around often taboo topics are a good good thing. This episode contains some issues that people may find triggering, including topics of depression, anxiety and self harm. Olio: The app fighting food waste in local communities

In the UK today, 8.4 million people are struggling to afford to eat with 4.7 million of these people living in severely food insecure homes, which means they often don’t know where their next meal comes from. And yet, every year around 10 million tonnes of food is thrown away within the supply chain from farm to table. 3.6million tonnes, worth £1 billion, doesn’t even leave the farm. In this episode of A Good Good Thing, we’re taking a look at the app Olio that offers food for thought when it comes to fighting food waste. OLIO connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away. Making a meal out of fake meat

Whether it's ‘fake meat’, ‘imitation meat’, or the rather oxymoronic ‘vegan meat’, meat alternatives and their derivatives are big business. In fact, Barclays analysts estimate the meat-free meat industry can reach a staggering $140 billion over the next decade. Now there’s some food for thought. But do you know the historical roots of vegetarian meat alternatives? Or what variations are being served today? From tofu, soy and seitan, to more modern plant-based alternatives, to actual animal meat grown in labs (without the need for a conscious animal, slaughter and death), this week’s episode breaks down the myths and facts behind the meal. Hugging for pride: a mom's journey to acceptance

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! We’re celebrating the rainbow with a Pride special and we couldn’t be more excited. Why? Because we are joined by a very, very special guest. Sara Cunningham is the founder of Free Mom Hugs, and incredible nonprofit organisation she started after a deeply personal journey of acceptance she experienced when her son, Parker, came out as gay.  From the church to the pride parade, Sara talks us though the tumultuous time she had and how she went from a place of prejudice to being the fiercest momma bear advocate for LGBTQ+ young people. She recounts the stories of other parents as well as young people she has met along the way. She also shares her top tips for what makes a good hug. It’s one not to be missed.  In our quick-fire news round, it’s a pride fest as Neil runs down as many good good things happening to the LGBTQ+ community right now. Which one will Jack pick? How to succeed at saving the planet

The current state of the planet has hit the headlines over the past few weeks with the actions of Extinction Rebellion in London and other European countries, and the proposal of a Green New Deal in the US. But what about countries that are already making waves in the fight for the planet? We look at some key places leading the charge to reduce the usage of fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions and increase the use of renewable energy as well as taking the right steps toward tackling consumption by seeking out innovative and ingrained recycling and re-use into every day. We continue the global view with a look at the countries where you, our beloved listeners, are turning in from, the effects Pokemon had on us all as kids and a new book by Riyadh Khalaf for young gay boys that's bringing joy to the queer community.  Keep up to date with us over on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (@agoodgoodthing) and don't forget to rate, review and subscribe so you don't miss the next episode.  About your hosts Jack    A computational artist currently undertaking a PhD in virtual reality, Jack is motivated by the positive impact technology can have on our day to day lives both operationally and emotionally. The clothing brand manufacturing a jobs revolution
