S2 Ep8: Joe Gomez
‘I wouldn’t change a thing.’
Few players have experienced such incredible highs and devastating lows as Joe Gomez since the defender’s arrival from Charlton Athletic in 2015.
From parading the biggest prizes in the game through the streets of Liverpool, to heart-wrenching injuries, Gomez has lived through despair and elation in equal measure.
In the latest We Are Liverpool, we’ll learn how those moments aren’t reflected upon with regret, but with inspiration and an outlook on life that suggests they were key in shaping who he is today.
Having played in many teams since joining the club, Gomez also shines light on what makes the current incarnation of Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool so unique, the close relationship he has with Virgil van Dijk and why he was arguably the most sleep deprived during the 2019 Champions League parade.
There’s also time to find out which of his Liverpool teammates from past and present was the most loved, which of the current crop are most serious about their fashion and which position is toughest to play; full-back or centre-half?

S2 Ep7: Emile Heskey
A club-record signing in March 2000 and a player Gerard Houllier identified as a key part of his Liverpool renaissance, it didn’t take long for Emile Heskey to win admirers at Anfield.
His 22 goals in 56 appearances during the iconic treble season only partially highlight the role he played within the team, with a presence on the pitch that allowed others, as well as himself, to flourish.
But while joining Liverpool helped unlock the best years of his long career, Heskey explains that living away from home for the first time as a young man resulted in feelings of homesickness that gave him doubts about his future on Merseyside.
We’ll also gain an insight to Houllier’s management style, why there are no regrets over not celebrating that historic treble in the way most would have expected and how he’s helping guide not one but two sons through football academy life.
09/01/24•45m 32s

No player has represented Liverpool FC more times during the WSL era than Gemma Bonner.
But as one of the league’s most experienced players, she admits even she found life difficult in her early years to reveal that football was her passion.
In our latest episode, the centre-half who led Matt Beard’s team to back-to-back titles in 2013 & 2014 tells all about those incredible achievements during her first spell at the club and why her return in 2022 wasn’t based purely on emotion.
We’ll also discover the truth behind a training ground 50-50 with Luis Suarez, what life is like living with a fellow professional sportsperson and which teammate she would confide in first when times get tough.
