Velvet's Edge with Kelly Henderson

Velvet's Edge with Kelly Henderson

By iHeartPodcasts

Kelly Henderson began her career in the Nashville country music scene over 15 years ago, orchestrating her impressive ascent from the ground up. Working closely grooming and styling for country music heavy-hitters Dierks Bentley, Jason Aldean, Riley Green and Jordan Davis, as well as media giants CMT, Billboard and more, Henderson has established herself as a go-to resource within the industry.  Henderson began offering an intimate insight into her work via her highly successful lifestyle blog, “Velvet’s Edge,” which began as a place her audience could find tips on fashion, travel, fitness, health and more.  As Henderson evolved, so her content has expanded. “People aren’t one dimensional, even though sometimes we try to live that way,” she says. With an ever-growing demand from her invested online followers, Henderson has now launched an extension of her blog in the form of a podcast of the same name via iHeartMedia. She uses her expertise and speaks from a decade long journey in 12-step recovery, intensive experiential therapy and other holistic modalities combined with her successful career as a tastemaker, artist and stylist to explore the deeper inner working of humans, celebrities and healers alike. The Velvet’s Edge Podcast normalizes hard conversations, “taboo” topics and people’s ever evolving journeys, while promoting healing, inner peace and the road to a happy and fulfilling life experience. The podcast is built on Henderson’s motto, “Everyone has a little Velvet and a little Edge, I’m just here to help people feel comfortable with that and hopefully get on the path to living their best life.”

New episodes are released every Wednesday and Friday, with Henderson leading the charge on Wednesday's on 'the Velvet' side of things- interviewing experts, celebrities and spiritual leaders in line with each monthly topic. She is joined on Friday's for 'the Edge' by co-host and friend, Chip Dorsch, to explore the lighter side of the things, laugh and connect with listeners!

Cobwebs: Does Sex Get Better With Age with Sex Expert, Susan Bratton  (The Edge)

Kelly and Chip revisit a conversation with sex expert, Susan Bratton, that has them asking the question - does sex get better with age? Plenty of studies and research have suggested that sex does get better with age, and that it's a habit that only improves with experience and understanding of self. So contrary to common myth, you're unlikely to be having the best sex of your life in your 20s. That particular accolade kicks in a few years later.  -https://www.flashpack.com/us/solo/relationships/better-sex-30s-40s-empowerment/#:~:text=Plenty%20of%20studies%20and%20research,in%20a%20few%20years%20later. In this conversation, Susan is discussing the importance of sex for mental health, but ends up telling a story about having sex with her husband the night before and what that looks like in her 60’s. Susan addresses how unhappy she was previously in their sex life and what changed for her and them once she decided to voice her needs and they began exploring more. Kelly's Favorite Conversations: Owning Your Uniqueness, Guarding Your Energy and Growing in Relationships with Healing & Movement Teacher, Melissa Sgambelluri.   (The Velvet)

"Find people who have what you want and learn how they got it." Kelly uses that tip to have a conversation with healing and movement teacher, Melissa Sgambelluri. Melissa's story of being on American Idol and getting out of toxic relationships-to finding her true self in a new career and love in a safe, loving, growth oriented relationship is intriguing to say the least. Kelly describes Melissa's energy as playful, warm, calm, peaceful, confident and creative and Melissa tells the story of how and why she got there. Melissa explains why so many women are facing burnout. "Sometimes the true power of the feminine is in the power of letting yourself be." Melissa talks about the messiness of healing, the power of not forcing and the beauty in owning your uniqueness. "Everyone is out there trying to have the same body type and do the same thing, but your true power is in being uniquely you. Everyone comes here with their own gift or gifts."Melissa reminds us that nobody actually has it figured out and encourages everyone to take some of the pressure off of ourselves. On most days (regardless of how it looks online) most people are just doing the best they can that day.  We say "I am not there yet........except 'yet' actually doesn't exist." It's all about today and the now. Helpful dating tip: She explains the difference between a true masculine energy and a masculine man operating from a feminine energy (think bar fights and chaos). Simple Answers, Easy Steps and a Message of Hope (The Edge)

Kelly here, hi. I am reposting this podcast this week because I simply do not know what else to do. After a mass shooting, that ended in 7 people (including 3 children) dead, just down the road from my home in Nashville this week, I do not have the words yet to talk about this again. Many of my close friends and specifically their children were greatly impacted by this shooting and to say that this issue being in your backyard brings it to the forefront of your mind is an understatement. I will be back to discuss more of what that is like at some point in the future, but in the meantime, I’m begging you all-no matter where you stand politically- put it to the side. This is bigger than your ego or own personal feelings. This is our children’s lives, safety and freedom. “Listen to the podcast, take the actionable steps, but also compromise and try to work together.   This is a political issue, but I think we have to do what we can to lay that down and start working together. We aren’t getting anywhere with otherwise. We all do it, but if more innocent children dying isn’t the time to unite and come together, I don’t know what is.  Sending love and healing energy to everyone in Nashville right now.  ------ Retired US Army Veteran, gun owner and gun violence survivor, Melody McFadden, joins Kelly and Chip to simplify the conversation about gun laws and gun violence.   "I don't want your guns, because I don't want to give you my guns."   Melody tells the stories of loss she has faced at the hands of unsafe gun use and also how simple it could be to make those moments safe.   On the date this was recorded in mid June, 3,599 people in America had been shot and killed since the mass shooting in Uvalde, TX on May 24.   "You have to get a driver's license to drive a car, why shouldn't we have safety measures about owning guns?"   Melody is full of love, faith and helpful small action steps we can all take to make our country a safe place to live.   Website: everytown.org    See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ainslie describes his hesitant journey to accepting his psychic abilities and how he communicates with spirit guides now to give people information about their own soul's journey. With this month's words "Dare" & "Purpose" in mind, Kelly revisits a conversation she had with iconic fashion designer, Norma Kamali. Norma Kamali is one google search away from loads of outward success stories- from Farrah Fawcett's classic red swimsuit, to the "Carrie" dress on Sex and the City- her designs have catapulted a career in fashion for over 50 years. However, in true Velvet's Edge form, those stories of her successes as well as failures launched a much deeper conversation about true life purpose, finding your soulmate and the lessons in the ups and downs of life."I found my soulmate at 65," Norma Kamali tells Kelly. "And I simply wasn't ready for him before that. From failed marriages to childhood happenings, I had a lot to sort out within myself." Ms. Kamali laughs when Kelly says "I'm about to turn 40 and I had this mentality at first, like, my life is done. It's over!" and rebuddles "that's hilarious. You are just getting started." Kamali tells her stories of being broke while having her designs run in major magazines like Vogue and is the greatest reminder of not comparing your insides with others outsides and staying the course to your own purpose. Her story is powerful and inspiring. How To Move Forward Energetically in 2023 (the Velvet)

With so much change happening in our world the past few years, Master Astrologer, Marvin Wilkerson joins Kelly to discuss the way feminine energy will impact and rebuild our future. Marv explains that feminine energy is inside each of us, both men and women, and how the suppression of that energy built the world of the past and how the future depends on understanding and embracing that energy. "We can't go back, so we've got to move forward in a new way." Kelly and Marv discuss the handling of football player, Damar Hamlin's injury during Monday Night Football was the perfect example of our cultures shift into feminine over masculine energy and how the compassion and empathy that was embraced is a part of that. Marv breaks down "Asteroid Goddesses" that are both mythological and astrological and how that energy applies to each of our astrology charts, reminding listeners that an astrology chart is the map of your life. Marv explains that our sun signs, which is the typical pop culture reference to astrology, are actually just a tiny portion of how astrology works in our lives. Kelly's Favorite Conversations: Ways To Find Peace Through Pain with Singer/Songwriter Blessing Offor (The Edge)

Many of you may know singer/songwriter, Blessing Offor, as the outstanding vocalist who sang so strongly he had all four judges turn their chairs around. Although his talent is something only dreams are made of, it's his sroty of hardship and then his positive outlook on life that makes him the magnetic human that he is. Blessing was born without vision in his left eye and lost vision in his right eye in an accident as a young boy. To most, this would be a tragedy hard to recover from, for Blessing it was his call to channel that hardship into purpose. "If you told me I had the chance to do that moment (losing vision in his right eye) all over again, I would say, where do I stand? I would do it exactly as it happened, because that moment is the moment that shaped me into who I am today." Blessing talks about the one question he asks himself when he is having a hard time or bad day/moment: "We put so much energy into what's wrong, like the traffic, and what I know is that it's never really about the traffic. There is always something deeper that's actually going on." His favorite quote:"Grief carves a canyon, so that joy can overflow it." And the best tidbit his therapist ever pointed out to him about the human condition: "Sitting with yourself is a truly POWERFUL thing." Blessing also tells Chip and Kelly about his musical inspirations, new music coming up and where listeners can go on the journey with him. website: blessingoffor.com  socials: @blessingoffor  Follow Kelly: @velvetsedge  Follow Chip: @chipdorsch Email: theedge@velvetsedge.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sober Curious Update (The Edge)

Sober Curious UpdateDescription: Kelly gives updates on where she stands with alcohol and her sober curious journey. She answers email questions about whether or not she is drinking at all, what today looks like and what cutting out alcohol completely for 10 months taught her.“Being sober curious means, literally, to choose to question, or get curious about, every impulse, invitation, and expectation to drink, versus mindlessly going along with the dominant drinking culture.” -Ruby Warrington“It was an interesting realization to see how disconnected from self I had become and the level of self respect that came from starting to choose myself and respecting my body. Ultimately, in many ways removing alcohol has really aided in my relationship with self.”The duo discussed mindless drinking and how alcohol is treated as a solution to everything in our culture. Kelly addressed why being sober curious doesn’t mean you have a problem with alcohol.“It’s actually so empowering. When someone says ‘do you want to drink?’ You actually pause and ask yourself- ‘do I want a drink right now?’ I just don’t think it hurts to ask the questions.”They also address the massive physical benefits Kelly discovered, including a drastic change in her anxiety levels.“You start to crave different things- a 20 minute walk, a quiet 10 minutes where you breathe deeply and connect to your body, 2 minutes of dancing around the room. You brain adjusts to new ways to get the hit of dopamine and they actually last longer and have no negative hangover effects.”Chip talks about his own journey of cutting back on alcohol.   Follow Kelly: @velvetsedge  Follow Chip: @chipdorsch Email: theedge@velvetsedge.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It’s spooky season, which makes it the best time to look at the shadow selves within each of us. Master Astrologer, Marvin Wilkerson, joins Kelly to educate listeners on the deep repressed parts of ourselves called the shadow. Marv answers questions like: What is the shadow? How do we know something is a part of our shadow? How do we work with those parts of ourselves and use them to grow and evolve?    “The essence of bravery is being without self-deception. However, it’s not so easy to take a straight look at what we do. Seeing ourselves clearly is initially uncomfortable and embarrassing.” -Pema Chodron   Marv describes how the shadow will present itself in our lives and how we are co-creators in all that we go through as humans. It’s all here to teach us something and enlighten us.    “You learn best from pain and you don’t forget pain.” - Marv    “In this life, no one person is better than anyone else. We all have a shadow. Life Be Lifin' and Other Ways To Find Peace Through Pain (The Edge)

Owning Your Uniqueness, Guarding Your Energy and Growing in Relationships with Healing & Movement Teacher, Melissa Sgambelluri.

Kelly's Favorite Conversations: Finding Your Aura Color with Mystic Michaela

Hi guys, Kelly here. I have randomly had multiple messages regarding this podcast lately and I can't help but feel it is the universe speaking to you guys and me about something really important right now. I think we can all agree that times are tough right now and extra heavy and I personally believe we are all being challenged in a way that is asking us to level up. To me, "leveling up" means evolve and grow and learn and keep learning. I also believe this involves getting to know ourselves and understanding the things that make us tick. I love therapy for this reason, but I also am beginning to understand the bigger picture of what else is happening around us. It's more than a mind thing, it's a soul thing. In this conversation I had with Mystic Michaela, she uses her psychic abilities to read my aura and explain what the different aura colors mean for everyone. If you have never heard of this, don't zone out just yet. These descriptions can be a major contributor to understanding your personality, who you should be in relationship with and even your life's purpose. Let's level up together my friends.  Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
