REP: The Final Rich Eisen Podcast
Unbelievably, after a four-year run, this is the last-ever incarnation of "The Rich Eisen Podcast." Frequently, in this business, shows like this don't end at the host's request or behest. Usually, shows named after the host come to an abrupt close when the host is shown the door by security while holding office belongings in a cardboard box. Thankfully, the reason why I'm shuttering this podcast after four wonderful years is because it's turning into a daily three-hour TV show airing on DirecTV's Audience Channel No. 239 and streaming live on the latest venture brought to you by NFL Media, the NFL Now app. NFL Now is also the home to the video archive of the show, which will also be available in audio podcast form on Podcast One as well as iTunes and virtually every other place you've been able to download this program over its lifespan. Best of all for our listeners, NFL Now is internationally available too. It's truly exciting news for your humble host and my podcast compadres Chris Law and Chris Brockman, who are traveling with the show's move to a bigger and broader platform. I started this podcast at the outset of the 2010 season because I thought there was a space in which to connect with the NFL Network fan base and have a conversation about the NFL and the entertainment world in one sitting. And I was rewarded with four years of stupendous football chatter involving fascinating figures from the gridiron and guests from across the TV, movie and music spectrum. Best yet, it did in fact get me closer to myriad football fans worldwide. I can not thank you enough for your passionate listenership. Please follow the show with us into the new horizon. We could not have done it without you. Thanks again and, as always, enjoy this listen. Chris Law and Jason Wormser 52 weeks a year The Rich Eisen Podcast discusses the ins and outs of the greatest game in the world with some of the biggest names from the gridiron, the silver-screen and beyond. This week the #REP strays a bit from its pigskin coverage to bring a first-hand account of a story that gripped the nation, nay the world last week. Podcast producer Chris Law was aboard US Airways flight 598 last week when man’s (alleged) “best-friend’ caused the aircraft to emergency land mid-flight. His live-tweeting of the event made international, yes international headlines. So what exactly happened 30,000 feet up? Law recalls the full, unfiltered account of the near thirteen hour flight to both Rich Eisen and Chris Brockman to kick off this week’s show. Up next, Fox Soccer VP of Programming Jason “The Worm” Wormser returns to the show after a long hiatus. The former NFL Network senior producers discusses with the crew some of the offseason NFL storylines and then previews the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup, which begins next week in Brazil. REP: Teddy Bridgewater, Jerry Ferrara and The Sklar Bros
Teddy Bridgewater, Jerry Ferrara and The Sklar Bros... A little more than two weeks removed from being selected 32nd overall by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater dials into “The Rich Eisen Podcast.” The three-year standout Louisville Cardinal talks with Eisen about the draft process, getting acclimated to life as a pro early on, if he expects to be the starter Week 1and more. Actor and friend of the program Jerry Ferrara then swings by our NFL Media studios to talk about his Giants draft class and a sneaky undrafted free agent signing of the G-Men that he’s pretty stoked about. Ferrara just wrapped up shooting the highly anticipated “Entourage” movie and the film’s set was no stranger to some big-name NFL players who have cameos in the flick, which hits theatres in the summer of 2015. Ferrara tells one story of Russell Wilson’s day on set shooting his scene -- one that ended with a star of the movie heading to the hospital with a broken leg as a result. Jerry’s been a busy man of late, training to play Arturo Gatti in an upcoming biopic about the late boxing champion, and he also has “Think Like A Man Too” hitting theatres June 20th. It’s always a fun time when Ferrara stops by, and of course we can’t let him leave without having him weigh in on the Johnny Manziel/Memorial Day Weekend/Las Vegas story -- or non-story depending on how you look at it. The show wraps up with two of the funniest guys in the business, Randy and Jason Sklar of the popular “Sklarbros Country Podcast” join the #REP crew in studio. “The Sklar Bros: What Are We Talking About?” is a newly released comedy special the duo have on Netflix, and the introduction to the special is hosted by none other than Rich Eisen himself, so be sure to check it out and stream it on Netflix. Mike Mayock and Bob Saget... With just a little more than a week until the 2014 NFL Draft gets underway at Radio City Music Hall, NFL draft maven Mike Mayock dials in to chat with Rich Eisen about this year’s class. Why is Teddy Bridgewater slipping out of the first round? Is there a chance Khalil Mack gets selected over Jadeveon Clowney? Is Johnny Manziel the answer for troubled franchises like Jacksonville or Cleveland? Mayock and Eisen hit on all of it and more. The show then shifts gears in a major way, welcoming in actor and comedian Bob Saget. Saget joins the #REP crew in studio to talk about his new book “Dirty Daddy,” and shares stories from his past. Many know Bob Saget from his wholesome role on “Full House,” or as the goofy host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.” And then there is a whole other section of Saget fans who know him from directing films like “Dirty Work,” his hysterical stand-up comedy or his profane appearances in “Entourage” or the documentary “The Aristocrats.” The latter is the Bob Saget that showed up for this edition of podcast, and he couldn’t have been funnier. Eisen and Hein, along with producers Chris Law and Chris Brockman, discuss some of the excellent television viewers have to choose from -- with shows such as HBO's "True Detective" and Netflix's "House of Cards." REP: Jeff Fisher, Blake Bortles, Thomas Dimitroff and Jim Mora Sr.
Jeff Fisher, Blake Bortles, Thomas Dimitroff and Jim Mora Sr... Rich Eisen is joined by St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, who also serves as co-chair of the NFL's Competition Committee. Eisen and Fisher have an engaging chat about what prospective rule changes are in the mix for 2014 and if injury-ridden and embattled quarterback Sam Bradford is the answer for the franchise moving forward. Next, former University of Central Florida quarterback and top draft prospect Blake Bortles joins Eisen from the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine to discuss his future in the National Football League. The 2013 AAC Player of the Year and Fiesta Bowl champion has seen his draft stock rise in recent weeks, and Bortles was the only one of the top three-rated quarterbacks (Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater) to throw for scouts in Indianapolis. Atlanta Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff then sits down with Eisen to talk about the combine from the front-office point of view and how players can rise and fall on a team's draft board simply by how they run the 40-yard dash. Dimitroff also discusses how his team went from 13-3 and the brink of the Super Bowl in 2012 to 4-12 and last place in the NFC South in 2013. The podcast rounds out with our show's resident movie critic Jim Mora Sr., who is back to select who he thinks will take home the gold statues in a variety of categories at Sunday night's 86th annual Academy Awards. The winningest coach in New Orleans Saints history practically grew up on a movie lot as a kid in Los Angeles and sees just about every new flick that comes out, so who better to evaluate Hollywood's biggest stars on their biggest night? The former Colts coach also shares a great story from his days in Indianapolis, when the team had the No.1 overall pick and was choosing between Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf. REP: Matt Damon and Brian Billick
Matt Damon and Brian Billick... Before getting to this latest episode, I’d like to take a moment to address all the kind words and congratulations sent in the direction of the podcast for passing the 10 million download mark. Speaking for producers Chris Law and Chris Brockman and everyone associated with the show from its near three-year history, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It truly has been a labor of love. Or, as our previous guest Larry David would say, it’s been a prettay, prettay, prettay good run. And, on that note, I couldn’t think of a better guest to have on to begin the next 10 million downloads than Matt Damon. Other than being an Academy Award winning, Emmy nominated A-list actor, he’s also a fantastic regular guy. And you’ll hear that in the conversation on this show as he bemoans the loss of Wes Welker to the Denver Broncos and re-iterates his trust in Bill Belichick and Tom Brady just like every New England Patriots fan you’ve come across. Damon loves his Pats for sure, and he knows his stuff, too. His reaction to the addition of Tim Tebow and the New York Jets’ famous “Buttfumble” are not to be missed. Also not to be missed: his new movie “Elysium” in a theater near you. Go see it. The show wraps up with a fun conversation with Brian Billick, the Super Bowl-winning coach of the 2000 Baltimore Ravens and NFL Network analyst. We go soup to nuts with Coach as the first preseason week of the 2013 gets into full swing. He also inspired this week’s poll question seen on this page. TV podcast producer Chris Brockman takes the floor and regales us with stories from hanging on the Academy Awards red carpet with the stupendous Ed Reed. Who did Ed chat up? Who did he miss out on? Who was the best dressed? Chris recalls all as poor audio podcast producer Chris Law phones in from the Indianapolis airport as he makes a weather-delayed trek back home. Rod Woodson, Carson Daly and "Guest Who" Following a pair of conference championship games which saw Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Atlanta Falcons, and a Ray Lewis-led Baltimore Ravens squad avenge last year’s loss to the New England Patriots, the stage is set for Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. To discuss the big matchup between the Ravens and 49ers, Rich dials up Hall of Fame defensive back Rod Woodson, a member of the Baltimore Ravens squad that won Super Bowl XXXV in 2001. Rich and Rod discuss the Kaepernick factor and how his speed and ability to throw effectively could prove to be a challenge for Lewis, Ed Reed and the Ravens’ defense. Woodson also discusses the emergence of Joe Flacco down the stretch and the troubles he presents Patrick Willis and the vaunted 49ers’ defense. "Last Call: With Carson Daly" brought their show to the NFL Network studio this week to interview Rich for an upcoming episode. Afterwards, we sat down with Carson to find out what he's been up to since his last visit to the REP one year ago. Josh Charles With the 2012 NFL Playoffs about to get under way, Rich and the crew discuss the Wild Card Weekend of games set to kick off on Saturday and Sunday. There are lingering questions leading into each contest, such as: How will things play out when rookie QB meets rookie QB in our nation’s capital? Can Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings repeat their Week 17 effort and defeat the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau? Will Matt Schaub and the Texans silence the critics when Andy Dalton and the Cincinnati Bengals come to town? How will the emotions in Baltimore, with the news of Ray Lewis retiring and Chuck Pagano returning to coach against his former team, impact who comes out victorious? It's the best time of the year in the NFL and Rich and the crew have you covered on all the playoff angles. The guys also take a trip down podcast memory-lane with one of the more hilarious stories ever told on the podcast. The story features Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne, Ravens S Ed Reed and an 8-foot Burmese python named "Law." If you’re a long-time fan of the REP then you're probably familiar with the story, and if you're new to the show, sit back and enjoy as we replay the story in Reed and Wayne's own words. REP: Mike Silver and Bobby Cannavale
Mike Silver and Bobby Cannavale Yahoo! Sports NFL columnist Mike Silver dials in to “The Rich Eisen Podcast” to chat with Rich and the podcast crew about the latest news from around the league. With the AFC playoff teams all determined and only seeding on the line in week 17, the guys mainly focus on the NFC playoff race and the multiple scenarios that could unfold Sunday. Silver, like always, brings his A-game for the podcast and has some unique takes on a few topics you won’t want to miss Up next, we shift our focus to Broadway, literally, as actor and big- time New York Jets fan Bobby Cannavale dials in fresh off exiting stage left for his matinee performance of “GlenGary Glen Ross,” in which he plays Ricky Roma. Cannavale currently stars opposite Al Pacino in the Broadway adaptation of David Mamet’s 1992 film, which also starred Pacino, along with Jack Lemmon and Alec Baldwin. Like most Jets fans, Cannavale is pretty disillusioned with the 2012 season and offers his take on what Rex Ryan and Co. need to do moving forward. The Union City, N.J., native manages to keep his Jets diatribe much cleaner than his character Gyp Rosetti would on HBO’s hit drama, “Boardwalk Empire.” Enjoy, and as always, thanks for downloading. REP: Joe Beningo, Jeff and Jackie Schaffer
Joe Beningo, Jeff and Jackie Schaffer After a week-long hiatus Rich and the crew are back recapping all that happened in Week 15 and across the National Football League landscape while they were gone, including the down-to-the-wire playoff races that are happening in both the AFC and NFC. Rich then dials up WFAN sports radio host Joe Beningo for the pulse on the tri-state mood following the Mark Sanchez led disaster that struck on “Monday Night Football” for the Jets. Beningo isn't shy with his thoughts on Sanchez or apologetic on how Jets management has handled the entire 2012 season. This is one New Yorker's perspective you won't want to miss. Things then settle down a bit when Rich, Law and Brockman welcome back in podcast favorites Jeff and Jackie Schaffer for a chat about their beloved Seahawks and much more. Jeff and Jackie's hit Fantasy Football based comedy show "The League" has its one-hour season finale airing this Thursday at 10:30 pm ET on FX and it guest stars none other than "The Purple Jesus" himself, Adrian Peterson. "The League" is no stranger to big-time NFL personalities guest appearing on the show, so we thought it would be fun to have one of those former player-guest stars phone in and surprise the Schaffer's during their chat. To cap it all off Rich and Jeff face off in Week 16 in their fantasy football league championship, so of course we do a full breakdown of their matchup man by man. REP: Remembering Steve Sabol
Jerry Jones, Sterling Sharpe, Bob Costas, Michael Lombardi, Carl Peterson and Steve Mariucci all reflect on the life of Steve Sabol, one of the NFL's and televisions most influential and incredible men. This special edition of the Rich Eisen Podcast remembering the life and contributions of Steve Sabol also includes Steve's last appearance on the podcast just prior to Super Bowl XLV in Dallas, where Steve's father Ed was nominated for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2011. NFL Films is more than a production company, it's an institution. The life's work of Steve Sabol, a football player turned artist who transformed American television for half a century. In 1962, Ed Sabol won the rights to film the league's championship game and NFL Films was born. In a sense, so was Steve, who was there that freezing day at Yankee Stadium working as a cameraman. For the next 50 years, he never stopped working for the NFL. Few men in the League have ever had a longer run. None has ever had a better one. He was the game's first quintuple threat. An Emmy-winning auteur who won statuettes for cinematography, editing, writing, directing and producing. The only man ever to be so honored. But it wasn't hardware that Steve loved, it was the game. And he saw it as no one ever had. Through the eyes of an artist. With an unerring eye for detail, and a pitch perfect ear, Steve quickly transformed NFL Films from simple chroniclers of the game, to epic myth makers. And he did it, as all great artists do, by taking chances. Super slow motion, wireless mics on players, reverse angle replays, follies films, and custom composed musical scores. All that's standard stuff today, but before NFL Films it was unheard of. But then, Steve never thought like a sports filmmaker, he thought like a Hollywood storyteller. Big, bold, honest, and, funny. Those were the hallmarks of Steve's work. And Steve himself. Across fifty years, and tens of thousands of programs, there was one constant at NFL Films: Steve Sabol. He was one of that now rare breed of executive who not only had done every job in the company at one time or another, but could still do any of them better than most. More than the company's head, he was its heartbeat. Last summer, Steve presented his father for induction into Pro Football's Hall of Fame. Big Ed, reminded the crowd that his motto was: “Tell me a story and it'll live forever.” Like any good son, Steve always listened to his father. Then worked until he became the greatest storyteller the NFL has ever known. But he also listened to his heart. And by turning to the game he loved, he also embraced a piece of wisdom he learned while studying art at Colorado college. Art is love’s accomplice, take love away and there is no art. Steve Sabol knew that better than anyone. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

REP: "The Triplets" Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin
Guests include former Dallas Cowboy greats Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin. To their recollection, the famed Triplets of the dynastic 1990s Dallas Cowboys have sat for an interview together only a handful of times, the last time coming just before Emmitt Smith was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That means the podcast chat you're about to hear represents the first time Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin were interviewed at the same time with the entire group enjoying Hall of Fame status.Call it a Triplet Bump for The Rich Eisen Podcast.Your humble narrator sat down with Smith, Aikman and Irvin late last week, about an hour before Smith held his 3rd annual charity dinner in a suburb outside of Dallas. This year's dinner, however, also served as a defacto reunion, honoring the 1992 Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys. Yes, it has been 20 years since the Triplets won their first of 3 Super Bowls and a host of luminaries from that team -- including Charles Haley, Jay Novacek, Tony Casillas, Jerry Jones and more -- convened to celebrate and, of course, to help Emmitt and his wife Pat raise money for local charities. (Cellphone photos I took from the evening can be found to the right.)Emmitt, Troy and Michael reminisced about the days when they first met to the drama-filled seasons that, despite the much documented turmoil, still yielded three championship seasons. Of course, all three men thought that those Cowboys teams could have won more than just the three titles. Stay tuned to hear why. Aikman, in particular, had a very interesting take on the Jerry/Jimmy Johnson rift and how it leaves him disappointed to this very day. Before we all hit the banquet room, I made sure the Triplets hit on the current state of the Dallas Cowboys, who, unbelievably, have still won only two playoff games since Emmitt, Aikman and Irvin won their 3rd and final Super Bowl.Enjoy this rare opportunity to hear three Hall of Fame athletes, raconteurs and friends swap stories and memories together, all for your podcast listening pleasure. It also stars Greg Gadson, a former Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran who lost both of his legs in combat and is the current director of the U.S. Army’s Wounded Warrior program. Berg, however, didn’t seem to care much about hawking his latest movie, wanting to discuss instead an initiative in sports that he is incredibly passionate about.Concussion prevention and player safety are very important to Berg, and he genuinely believes the problem -- and the solution – begins at the youth football level. He, along with others like Bobby Hosea and LaVar Arrington, are trying to change the system and how America’s youth are taught the game, working to ensure proper technique and form are implemented from the beginning. Berg’s passion about player safety stems from a real-life incident that took place while he was on location in Austin, Texas preparing to shoot the first season of “Friday Night Lights.”It’s a fascinating listen, so enjoy and, as always, thanks for downloading. Guests include the former head coach of the Raiders, Hue Jackson, who joins Rich just one day after being fired in Oakland. REP: Tony Gonzalez, Brian Williams, Michael Lombardi and Jim Brockmire
Its a special lineup for the Wild Card Weekend edition of the Podcast -- a legend of the booth, a trusted American voice and the most prolific tight end in the history of the National Football League, all in one show First up, Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez joins us just mere days before taking on the Giants for the right to move on to either Green Bay or San Francisco. Would you believe that , with all the records and stats requisite for a first-ballot selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Gonzalez does not have a single playoff win under his belt? He enters Sunday's game 0-for-4 in career playoff appearances and, of course, we talk about whether that's on his mind when he suits up this weekend. We also hit on whether or not the Falcons' inconsistencies on offense are behind them, the skills of rookie Julio Jones and the unreal talent that his success seems to have spawned at the position through the league Next up, one of my favorite guests we've had on the podcast to date: NBC News' Brian Williams, the most trusted newsman of this generation who also just happens to be one of the driest wits and best raconteurs of all-time. Williams took a few minutes to join us from his set at 30 Rock during the middle of a very busy day -- Iowa Caucus Tuesday -- to discuss his beloved Giants. Williams is a New Jersey native who grew up loving the Giants while attempting a (sadly short) run at high school gridiron glory of his own. It is a tale of woe not to be missed. Williams chimes in on the controversy-ravaged Jets and why it's difficult for him to predict a winner on the Lions-Saints wild-card matchup on his network Saturday night. Then we sent him back to the world of Romney, Santorum et al. Another Jersey boy -- Michael Lombardi -- joins the show to make heads/tails about the vacant coaching situations and why there aren't openings in Chicago, where the GM got fired, and San Diego, where the GM didn't. Why did the Colts finally part ways with the Polians and what's their next step on the Peyton Manning front? What in the world can the jets do with a disgruntled receiver, a regressing quarterback and coach who is suddenly under fire despite have gone to the AFC Championship Game in each of his first two years? You'll be especially keen to hear to whom Lombardi compares the current Jets. A hint: it's not very flattering. Lastly, a fourth visit to the studio by the legend of the booth himself, Jim Brockmire. The Hall of Fame announcer whose famous on-air meltdown has been on the comeback trail thanks much in part to this podcast, on which he has delivered the plays of the month for September, October and November. Now, Jim is back with the plays for the month of December and also with a strange looking half-goatee. There's lots to discuss with Jim, who also laments the firing of the Polians and gives his latest unique take on his favorite topic: Tim Tebow. It's all in one mega Wild Card Weekend podcast to enjoy. Lots in the hopper for the divisional round podcast on tap for next week. REP: Matt Damon, Al Michaels, Rob Lowe and Mike Florio
Guests include Academy Award winning actor and die-hard Patriots fan Matt Damon, who joins Rich from NFL headquarters in New York. A New England native, Damon chats with Rich about the Patriots chances at a title this season, where he was when he first met Tom Brady, and much much more... Including his new movie "We Bought A Zoo", directed by the super talented Cameron Crowe that hits theatres Friday, December 23rd. Up next is the voice of "Sunday Night Football" on NBC, Al Michaels, who is fresh off fantastic finish in Dallas that saw Tony Romo and the Cowboys let another fourth quarter lead slip away. As always it's an informative chat when Al is in-studio and we look forward to him and Cris Collinsworth on the call for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Our second big time actor of the show phones in fresh off of hosting the Country Music Television awards, when big time Colts fan, Rob Lowe dials up the program. Like millions of Americans, Lowe was suffering from the Fantasy Football blues, after a devastating loss in week 14, at the hands of his very own son no less. But it certainly isn't bad being Rob Lowe these days, as the bestselling author of "Stories I Only Tell My Friends" recently announced he'll be penning a follow up book titled "Love Life" and also has a new film currently in theatres called "I Melt With You" co-starring Jeremy Piven. Like we said, it certainly isn't bad being Rob Lowe. This week's show rounds out with the founder of Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio, who shares his take on the James Harrison hit that nearly knocked out Colt McCoy, and the leagues handling with a 1-game suspension. Florio also shares his thoughts on some of the recent coaching vacancies and where he thinks some of the more high profiled "retired" coaches may land in the offseason. REP: Charles Woodson, Adam Carolla, Jim Brockmire and Sam Farmer
It's December. It's time for the stretch run. It's put up or shut up time, which means it's time to raise our game here on the podcast. As you'll notice from here on out, we intend to do just that with our guest list. To that end, we kick off this podcast with a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest players the University of Michigan has ever sent forth into the pro ranks: Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers. So much to talk about with him and we do: going undefeated in 2011, Suh's 2-game suspension, Michigan's turnaround season, Urban Meyer's arrival to the ultimate rivalry, Tom Brady's ascension from backup on his college team to all-time NFL great, their Tuck Rule moment and....whether, after 16 seasons, Woodson might hang em up with Green Bay repeats. Loved the chat, hope you do too. Next up is Adam Carolla, who thankfully came back in-studio after I booted two footballs into his posterior during his last in-studio visit. As always, we run the gamut with Carolla, from his crusade to extend goal posts to the collapse of his beloved Rams to the most inventive analogy for the Dallas Cowboys I've ever heard. Carolla is at his A-game finest here. As always, please download the Aceman's own podcast. It was an outrageously busy week in the NFL with the most talked about team being, of all teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars. You normally do attract large amounts of attention when you, say, fire your coach and announce the sale of your team in the same press conference as Wayne Weaver did Tuesday. What are the ramifications of the Jaguars sale league-wide? Does this mean anything for your team, especially with Los Angeles expecting to be open for business shortly? We dial up the foremost expert on the subject, Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times. It's an in-depth conversation that should answer most of your questions on the issue. And I'm talking to you Viking fans, Jaguar fans, Ram fans, Charger fans, Raider fans, Bills fans and 49er fans. Follow Sam on Twitter Lastly, we throw open the studio doors for legendary sportscaster Jim Brockmire for a third time this season. Jim returns to deliver the plays of the month of November as only he can. He also offers his unique take on hot-button issues in the league, including Tim Tebow's emergence and Suh's Thanksgiving stomp. We know many of you complain about HEARING the top plays instead of SEEING them so stay tuned to this space to view the video of Brockmire's plays of the month. Enjoy folks. REP: Matt Leinart, Nick Bakay, Stephen J Dubner and Brian Billick
As Week 12 approaches, the storyline has shifted dramatically in the NFL with two playoff-contending teams potentially losing their signal callers for weeks, if not the remainder of the regular season. Jay Cutler’s thumb injury puts the ball in the hands of backup Caleb Hanie for Chicago. Meanwhile, the AFC South-leading Texans saw their quarterback, Matt Schaub, go down with a foot injury. Enter Matt Leinart: The former Heisman Trophy winner will get his first career start with the Texans on Sunday. Leinart sat down with Rich to chat about the big game, turning down his former USC coach’s offer to reunite in Seattle, and just exactly what went wrong in Arizona. Speaking of going wrong, Rich welcomes in studio his good friend Nick Bakay, whose Bills have been in a downward spiral since his last visit just a few weeks ago. The guys try to diagnose the problems and where things went bad for Ryan Fitzpatrick and Co. They also hit on some of the hot topics, including Tim Tebow’s Mile High comeback last Thursday against the Jets on NFL Network, and what it all means moving forward for Denver. After Bakay, Rich shifts gears and sits down with author Stephen J. Dubner. If Dubner’s name sounds familiar, it should, he co-wrote the New York Times bestseller “Freakonomics”, which has sold more than four million copies and has also been turned into a successful documentary film. After penning a follow-up book titled “SuperFreakonomics”, Dubner has decided to take his unique approach of looking at issues in society, and turn it to the gridiron in a series for NFL.com and NFL Network called “Football Freakonomics”. Rich and Stephen chat about some of the interesting ways that common practices and theories such as “Icing the Kicker” and “Momentum” can be looked at through data and either proven, or debunked. The show rounds out with our resident coach, as Brian Billick and Rich chat on a variety of topics from around the league. Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and thanks for downloading. REP: Peter King and Jay Glazer
Guests include Sports Illustrated senior writer Peter King and FOX Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer. After another spectacular week in the National Football League, Rich decided to dial up two of the best information men in the business. First up from NFL headquarters in New York is King, who gives his take on the Chargers' late-game debacle in Kansas City on "Monday Night Football", and how Chiefs coach Todd Haley has his team rolling and in great position at the halfway point of the season after an 0-3 start. The conversation then shifts around the league as Rich and King touch on some of the hotter topics in the NFL from recent weeks, including the quick rise and fall of Tim Tebow in Denver. And speaking of Tebow, Jay Glazer has an interesting take on John Fox's Mile-High quarterback dilemma, and how his hand might have been somewhat forced into playing the former Heisman Trophy winner. After Tebow's more-than-lackluster performance Sunday against the Lions, Rich asks Glazer who he can expect to be calling the plays in the huddle when the Jets take on the Broncos on NFL Network's "Thursday Night Football" matchup in Week 10? Glazer's answer might surprise some of you. It's an information-packed podcast with two of the very best in the business, so enjoy and thanks for downloading. Be sure to check back Thursday as Rich has a star-studded podcast scheduled as "The Sandman" himself, Adam Sandler, joins Rich in-studio to talk Jets, Tom Brady, and his new comedy "Jack and Jill" that hits theatres Nov. 11. Also making his triumphant return to recap the top NFL plays for the month of October is the legend of the booth, Jim Brockmire. So tune into NFL Network at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. REP: Arian Foster, Coach Calipari and Michael Wilbon
Guests include Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster, plus University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari skypes in, and “Pardon the Interruption” co-host Michael Wilbon also dials up the program. First up, Arian Foster joins Rich fresh off a dynamite performance in week 7 where he totaled 234 all-purpose yards and 3 touchdowns versus the Titans. After missing nearly all of the first three games of the 2011 season, Foster seems to back in the 2010 form that garnered him the NFL rushing title. Rich and Foster chat about the Texans chances this year in the AFC as well as the likelihood of Andre Johnson returning in week 8 from a hamstring injury that has had him sidelined for the past few weeks. Undrafted out of Tennessee in 2009, Foster sheds some light on a draft day gaffe that may have caused a certain team in the Pacific Northwest not to call his name in the seventh-round. Next up, the podcast shifts gears a bit as Rich welcomes in the tech savvy head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats when John Calipari skypes in from his office Lexington, KY. A native of Pittsburgh, Coach Cal is a huge Steelers fan and shares some of his favorite memories as a fan. And what better person to impart his wisdom on proper post game handshake etiquette then a college basketball coach where the handshake tradition also takes place after every game. Coach Cal brings his ‘A’ game to the podcast and we‘re looking forward to having back on soon. The podcast rounds out with Michael Wilbon, the co-host of the immensely popular “Pardon the Interruption” that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. Rich and Michael go around the league and Wilbon has some not so flattering comments for the Ravens rather lackluster performance on Monday Night Football this past week versus the Jaguars. It’s a fun show with three great guests. Next week’s lineup is all booked and ready to go as we welcome in the hilarious Adam Sandler in-studio, Sports Illustrated senior writer Peter King, and a legend of the broadcast booth as Jim Brockmire makes his triumphant return to the podcast counting down the top plays of October in the NFL. REP: Steve Wyche, Kara Henderson and The Worm
Guests include NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche, who stops by fresh off attending Terrell Owens' workout held Tuesday in Southern California. Wyche has the inside information on how the workout went, what potential suitors might be out there for a 37-year-old wide receiver who's coming off major reconstructive knee surgery, as well as when he envisions Owens landing with a team and more. Rich and Steve also go around the league to recap Week 7 and look ahead to Week 8 in the National Football League. Next up on the podcast, Kara Henderson makes her return, albeit brief, as she's joined by none other than "The Worm." It's a fun, quick-hitting podcast, so be sure to check back Thursday as Houston Texans star running back Arian Foster joins Rich, plus University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari skypes in, and "Pardon the Interruption" co-host Michael Wilbon also dials up the program. REP: Dennis Haysbert and Michael Silver
Guests include actor Dennis Haysbert and Yahoo! Sports NFL columnist Michael Silver. Actor Dennis Haysbert stops by the NFL Network studios to sit down with Rich as the two chat about Haysbert's favorite teams, the 49ers and Raiders. The Bay area native couldn't have picked a better day to stop by with the news of Carson Palmer's trade to Oakland being heavily discussed, as well some of Haysbert's more infamous roles, such as Pedro Cerrano in "Major League" and President David Palmer on "24". Next up is Yahoo! Sports NFL columnist Mike Silver, who discusses the Tony Romo-Jason Garrett-Jerry Jones saga in Big D after another last minute lost to New England and what it means moving forward for the Cowboys organization. Silver also touches on the implications of the Carson Palmer trade to Oakland and gives the inside details of the Chris Cooley crank call that had him being dealt to the Giants. Its good stuff, so enjoy. Stay tuned for another podcast coming out this Thursday that will feature the always opinionated Dennis Miller and CBS Sports lead play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz. REP: Ed Reed and Brian Billick
Guests include Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed and Brian Billick, Super Bowl XXXV-winning coach and current NFL Network and Fox analyst. Rich chats with Reed, the seven-time Pro Bowl safety , who’s fresh off a bye week and looking forward to welcoming the Houston Texans and QB Matt Schaub into Baltimore for a big AFC matchup this Sunday. Rich and Ed hit on multiple topics, including Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s rather-flattering comments about the safety during a meeting with QB Tom Brady that was featured on NFL Network’s “Bill Belichick: A Football Life.” Rich also asks Reed for this thoughts on the 2011 offensive explosion and if it’s a good or bad thing for the NFL. You won’t want to miss that. Up next is the coach who drafted Reed in 2002, as Billick stops by to chat with Rich. Billick called the Eagles-Bills game for Fox last Sunday and also will work this Sunday’s Eagles-Redskins matchup, so he has some opinions on what’s going on in the City of Brotherly Love and if coach Andy Reid’s job status is secure. Rich also hits up Coach Billick on some of the early surprises of the season, like the aforementioned 4-1 Bills and 5-0 Detroit Lions. It’s a great listen, and as always, enjoy! Stay tuned for Thursday’s podcast, featuring Redskins tight end Chris Cooley and a special treat for everyone. REP: Michael Lombardi, Sugar Ray Leonard and Jim Brockmire
Guests include NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi who goes around the league with the latest news. Next up is boxing royalty as Sugar Ray Leonard joins the show for a brief visit from NFL headquarters in New York. And speaking of royalty, one of the best color men in the broadcast booth stops by as Jim Brockmire joins the Rich Eisen Podcast in-studio. Brockmire’s struggles and on-air meltdown were well documented by the folks at Funny or Die, but we thought this legend could use a second chance so we asked him to countdown the top NFL plays of September. For those of you listening to the podcast via iTunes or online be sure to check out NFL.com/richeisen to watch the video in full. Its HI-larious. Enjoy, and thanks for listening. REP: Wes Welker and Jeff Schaffer
Guests include Patriots WR Wes Welker and the creator of the hit FX show 'The League', Jeff Schaffer. Guests include Patriots WR Wes Welker, who briefly pauses from his record-breaking start to the season to come on the podcast that also features the creator of the "The League" on FX, Jeff Schaffer. We’ve passed the quarter post point of the NFL regular season and in this Year of the Exploding Offense look who’s on top of the receiving world: Wes Welker, who’s on pace to smash Marvin Harrison’s single-season record for receptions and Jerry Rice’s single-season record for receiving yards. And with the Patriots fresh off a big win in Oakland and getting set to host the hated New York Jets – the team that ended its 2010 season if your memory needs refreshing -- who better to have on the podcast than Wes Welker? So, we fire up Patriots cam for him. And, yes, I do ask him if he has a message for Rex Ryan. My other guest is a returning guest: Jeff Schaffer, the co-executive producer and co-writer of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Jeff was last on the show in July when we dedicated an entire podcast to “Curb.” This time, Schaffer appears to promote a show of his very own creation: the fantasy-football inspired comedy “The League,” which premieres this Thursday night for a third season on FX. Lots to talk about with Jeff, including his own fantasy leagues and how he incorporates them into the show. Which NFL stars are set to make cameos on his show this year? And then there’s this: How can he can create/write/direct a show about a 2011 fantasy football league when he conceives and shoots most of the scripts during the summer? Of course, I can’t let Schaffer leave the studio without asking him the origin of the newest classic “Curb” storylines from this past season (Pig Parker, Sh*t Bow, Bill Buckner, Palestinian Chicken Restaurant to name a few) and how he and his writing partners come up with this stuff with Larry David. Then, I press him on the most important issue of all: Will there be a ninth season of “Curb”? His answer... breaks entertainment news, which, as you know, I love to do on the podcast. Keep an eye peeled for another show this Thursday with NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi, former boxing champ Sugar Ray Leonard and a special surprise guest who, after having an unfortunate career-altering incident in the TV booth, is starting his comeback on the podcast. Next up is fitness guru/volleyball champion/model Gabrielle Reece. Reece attended Florida State University the same time as NFL Networks very own Deion Sanders. So needless to say she has some great stories of 'Prime' and their days in Tallahassee as Gabby brings it on this edition of the podcast. Hopefully we can have her back on before she heads to the islands for the winter to catch the big waves with her husband, surf legend Laird Hamilton. REP: Mike Mayock 2011 Draft review
With one week’s worth of breathing room between us and the 2011 NFL Draft, I figured it would be the perfect time to look back and soak in what we’ve learned with the ultimate maven, Mike Mayock. I phoned up Mike on a pretty big day for him, too. It was the day NFL Network announced that Mayock would join Brad Nessler in the booth to comprise the new team to bring you Thursday Night Football starting this fall. So, there was lots to talk about with Mayock, who also was fresh back from the mother of all golf trips and about to pop a considerable amount of meat on the grill in his backyard, too.Clearly, the man deserves the break… but not before I could bend his ear on all the important questions generated by the 254 choices made in Radio City Music Hall last week. REP: Rex Ryan, Rob Lowe, Marshall Faulk and Michael Lombardi
For the first-time in the short history of this podcast (celebrating nine months!) the number of authors on our guest-list nearly eclipsed the number of football-related guests. And, yes, I’m counting Rex Ryan as an author. The man best known for what comes out of his mouth wrote a book called “Play Like You Mean It” and the Jets head coach has been making serious media rounds to promote it. From NFL Total Access to David Letterman (four shows after yours truly appeared on the “Late Show”), Rex has been all over the media map to talk about his book and he shoe-horned this here podcast into his busy schedule.Rex and I chat about some of the best stories in his book (did you know he elicited the Commissioner’s help to build trust with Santonio Holmes last training camp?) as well as whether he thinks all of his free agent wide receivers – Holmes, Braylon Edwards, Brad Smith — could possibly return in 2011. Plus, we get a health update on his dad, Buddy. After Rex, we dial up another best-selling author. Actor Rob Lowe returns to the podcast for a second consecutive week to talk some more about his tome “Stories I Only Tell My Friends.” In this second chat with Rob, we dig deeper into his filmography and upbringing: “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “About Last Night,” “West Wing,” growing up with Martin and Charlie Sheen and hanging, if you will, with Demi Moore. Hey now. It’s all in there, including Rob’s thoughts on Charlie Sheen’s, shall we say, eschewing of the one thing that Rob credits with saving his life: rehab. Good stuff, all.But before we get into our book nook, we revisit the NFL draft with the man who had the biggest scoop of draft weekend: insider Michael Lombardi, who was the first to report on the Patriots drafting of Ryan Mallett several minutes before the Patriots actually drafted Mallett. We delve into Mallett’s future with New England, as well as the pro readiness of every single one of the quarterbacks drafted within the first three rounds. When might we see Andy Dalton under center? Jake Locker? Christian Ponder? Colin Kaepernick? Blaine Gabbert? We also discuss the first-round intrigue surrounding the botched (or purposefully sabotaged?) draft deal between the Ravens and Bears. The podcast wraps up with the Hot Topics segment with NFL Network Grand Dame Kara Henderson and future Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, who may just be the best Hot Topics pairing in the post-Worm history of the podcast. In the wide-ranging chat, we all get something off our chest (which leads to Kara wanting to rename the segment) and Marshall makes a big announcement – his choice of musical entertainment for his and Deion Sanders‘ joint post-induction party in Canton this summer. It’s a big name.If I may, most of you will be interested in hearing what I get off my chest since it involves what is, judging by my Twitter inbox, the biggest pet peeve of any draft viewer: the tipping of picks. With 25 kids invited to Radio City Music Hall this season and the proliferation of Skype cameras and satellite trucks in the homes of prospects who don’t go to New York City, the picks are being revealed on television well before the Commissioner makes the announcement. In effect, the Commissioner is just confirming what most of us already know: the guy on TV crying on the cellphone is about to get picked by the coach on the other end of the line.I hate it, too. So, I make a suggestion that I think will fix the problem. Listen for it. And, as always, let me know your thoughts either by posting a message here or on my Twitter page: @richeisen. Even people agree with me and perhaps, together, we can make a difference, people.Enjoy the show. A stand-alone podcast with the best of the best NFL draft experts and now NFL Network Thursday Night Football analyst Mike Mayock will be released Friday, May 6. REP: Ed Reed, John Legend and Mark Wahlberg
First up, fresh off the “Monday Night Football” scare the Texans put into his Ravens, Baltimore’s future Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed joins us. And he joins us from a very interesting place, too. Keep your ears peeled for that as we discuss the difficulty Baltimore’s secondary and defense endured in the latter throes of the game in Houston. We ask Ed if that’s yet another instance of a disturbing trend for the Ravens or if he thinks the issues are fixable. We also talk about our times hanging at the Pro Bowl together and one of the funniest stories you’ll ever hear that involves his former teammate at the “U” in Miami, fellow Pro Bowler Reggie Wayne. Then, we dial up multiple Grammy Award winning R&B/soul maestro John Legend. Legend’s newest album “Wake Up,” a collaboration with The Roots – Jimmy Fallon’s “house” band — is as good as anything he’s ever done. We talk about the album, which has generated five MORE Grammy nominations for John, before turning to his fantasy football team and his real-life football team – the Bengals.Yes, Legend is an Ohio-native, which means he’s also an Ohio State Buckeye fan. We have fun with that, what with the way I bleed Maize and Blue.Last, but certainly not least, Mark Wahlberg joins the podcast on the very day his movie “The Fighter” earned six Golden Globe nominations (including one for Wahlberg for Best Actor in a Drama) and his new genius show on HBO, “Boardwalk Empire,” earned a nomination for Best Drama Series. In other words, the only thing more on fire than Wahlberg is his beloved New England Patriots, fresh off yet another stunning beat-down of a nine-win team hoping to earn its stripes by beating them. We talk about it all with Wahlberg, who, before playing fighter Micky Ward in “The Fighter” was also Vince Papale in “Invincible.” I make a suggestion as to who Wahlberg should play next if he cares to make one last sports-related biopic. We also delve into the crucial topic of whether or not there will be an “Entourage” movie once that critically-acclaimed show of his signs off of HBO next year.In between all of those interviews, The Worm returns to the podcast fresh off his bye week. Senior Producer Jason Wormser is joined by NFL Network reporter Kara Henderson in two different Hot Topics segments in which, trust me, we hit absolutely everything under the sun. It’s all to the good, as they say. I’m just trying to sound cool for Legend. Hope it works. You tell me. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It’s another late week edition of the podcast, but the very first I didn’t label as “special.” And that’s a direct result of so many of you tweaking me for doing something so regularly and calling it “special.” To be honest, when this podcast started in Week 1 of the season, I didn’t intend to do it twice a week. But when the trade of Randy Moss went down after my Tuesday’s podcast was put in “the can” as they say out here in Los Angeles, I had to tape another podcast because I couldn’t have a podcast week go by without discussing such a major story. And then each week, something major would happen, causing me to conduct late-week podcasts one after another until it started becoming, you know, regular. At any rate, this late-week podcasting will soon cease since I’m soon to go on the road for NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football, so I figured to keep doing it while I can. This week, I flipped on the mics for two old friends brought together at the crossroads of NFL history by Rodney Harrison back in the 1999 preseason: Trent Green and Kurt Warner. When Harrison blew up Green’s knee in the summer of ’99, it kick-started Warner’s Disney-like magic carpet ride career that should one day land in Canton. The two talk about that moment at length and reminisce about how that championship season came to be as a whole. It was a natural lead-in to how their old offensive coordinator is faring in Chicago right now. Their insights into the Mike Martz offense in Chicago and how it’s struggling under Jay Cutler is a must listen for Bears fans. I also ask the quarterback tandem if they think Brett Favre will play this week and which current quarterback they would choose if they needed to win one game right now. Warner and Green reunited on the podcast. And it feels so good. By the way, I think Green would be Peaches and Warner, Herb.
