Loon Call

A "Game Changers" podcast. Talking "Heated Rivalry", the Rachel Reid series, romance, adaptations, and more!

Ruby and Ada

We take it back to the very beginning of this podcast and reheat episode 4! This is also going to be a little hiatus from full length episodes from us while we deal with life/families/Ada's dog that wouldn't stop barking during this episode (she's very protective of us...against imaginary threats...or ghosts). This episode runs the gamut. We look back on season 1, revisit episode 4, talk about our highs and lows of recording our own season 1 of this podcast. We talk fandoms and songs with the word "dreams" in them and really dig deep on Mandela effects. To put it mildly: is so NOT boring!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Find us on YouTube @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 25: Reheating the Tuna Melt

Happy Mother's Day (a day late and to those that celebrate)! We wanted to take this week's episode to pay homage to the mom that started it all, the mom who will PR the hell out of any relationship, the mom who is kind and caring and tough and tender all in one breath. That's right, we are talking about the inimitable Yuna Hollander. Join us as we wax poetic on the moms of the show and series, our own journeys as moms, and both come to the realization that Ruby would absolutely rule a prison. Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Find us on YouTube @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 24: Mom. Mama. Mamacita. Mommy.

Welcome back to craft cottage! We've missed you around these parts! Grab a chair, grab an ice-cold ginger ale, grab something off the in-room menu and get comfortable. Today, we're going to the All-Star Game!By popular demand, we break down the All-Star Game - both on page and on screen - and talk about what a beautiful bookend if is to the tuna melt. We talk about craft and narrative, dutch ovens, and where we think Brady Tkachuk lives in the off-season.ENJOY!

Episode 23: All-Stars, Baby!

This week, Adriana Herrera - USA today bestselling author, Audie award winner, and a prolific Heated Rivalry fan - joins us to discuss just what makes this series and show so damn good. From the importance of romance as a cultural tentpole, to the episodes and scenes that destroyed her, to the absolute joy of getting to spend a dinner with Rachel, Hudson, Jacob and Brendan - we talk about it all. Warning: very slight spoilers for Project Hail Mary at Books referenced: Chicago Stars Series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips; Jennifer Lynn BarnesFollow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Find us on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 22: Romance with Adriana Herrera

This week, we are joined by the real heroes of Heated Rivalry (at least, if you ask Ada) - Veroniqué Barbe and Arthur Tarnowski aka the editors! Veronique and Arthur are two incredibly decorated Canadian-based editors, with credits like Sharp Objects and Big Little Lies (Veroniqué) and The Hummingbird Project and The Trotsky (Arthur) among many others. They are the reason we have the now-Pavlovian lighter click scene to kick off the show. They are the reason we are obsessed with the cuts and the audio and the feeling. They are the final frontier before the vision makes it to our TV screens. So come along and listen to Ada geek out for an hour! Plus...get some behind the scenes insights into the creative process.Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Check us out on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 21: The Editors with Véronique Barbe and Arthur Tarnowski

This week, Ruby and Ada talk with one of the scene stealers from Heated Rivalry - Harrison Browne. You may know him as the man who just wanted to get room service but was forced to "TELL PEOPLE" leading up to the famous club scene in episode 4. But Harrison is so much more than just Connors. In this episode, we talk all things Heated Rivalry, acting/directing, his incredible short film "Pink Light", and book he wrote that's become necessary reading in our eyes - "Let Us Play: Winning the Battle for Gender Diverse Athletes." Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!See us YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 20: Pucks and Pages with Harrison Browne

This is the episode you've all (none) have. been asking for (ok maybe one or two people asked). Ruby and Ada tackle the question that has plagued historians for centuries, baffled scientists for decades, and confused literary scholars since last December. Yes, we are tackling the most important question to answer: Does Scott Hunter Know About Shane and Ilya?In true Loon Call fashion, we don't do anything half-baked...so we made this into a good old fashioned debate. We have statements (opening AND closing), we have points (and counterpoints), we have a rivalry (that's probably best described as tepid). Two enter the debate ring....only one may leave.Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Check us out on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 19: The Great Debate - Does Scotty Know?

The long (one week) awaited (we think?) sequel to the q's you threw our way (that we asked for). Ruby and Ada also share the story of their friendship - it's heartwarming and may or may not involve location scouting and DMs.TW for this episode: we talk about the Long Game (no spoilers) and there are mentions of depression and suicidal ideation. But also lots and lots and lots of laughs, too. Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Find us on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

MINISODE: Q&A 2 - The Sequel

This week, we are joined by the inimitable, lovely, brilliant Chip Pons - author of "Winging it with You" and the upcoming "Dearly Departed". In the Post Heated Rivalry (PHR) world, the conversations around queer media and queer joy have become even more amplified. And as a friend of the pod (plus an author we both will recommend always and forever), we couldn't have asked for a better conversation partner to talk all things queer joy in the world of romance and beyond. Also, Ruby shares one of the many jobs she's held (if you had a million guesses, you still wouldn't get it) and Ada shares a pivotal story about "Fifty Shades of Grey" (the movie). Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Catch us on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 17: Queer Joy with Chip Pons

You asked, we answer! Well, technically, we asked you to ask, then you asked, and now we're answering. We put out a call for any questions you have for us and y'all delivered. So...here are some answers to the burning questions (or, not burning, maybe, that sounds painful). MINISODE: Q&A with Ruby & Ada

This week, we are joined by our favorite fan editor: Mellie, aka @uhbucky! You may know her as the creator of some of the most beautiful, cinematic, awe inspiring fan edits (that have translated into a job at THE HBO). We talk about fandom, what made Heated Rivalry so editable, and how she's grown into her own as an editor. We are, in a word, obsessed.

Episode 15: Fan Service with Mellie (@uhbucky)

Welcome back to Craft Cottage! Today, Ada takes a look at the techniques that made "Heated Rivalry" (the show) so. damn. watchable. Because it borrowed some incredible elements from "prestige TV" and served it to us on a shiny queer romance platter. Come for the discourse, stay to learn just how many shows Ruby hasn't seen (it's a lot...but that's ok!) Episode 14: Make Us Watch

Rachel Reid joins us on the pod this week! You may know her as the reason we are ALL collectively in love with Heated Rivalry and the Game Changers universe. She's the creator, she's the storyteller, she is MOTHER. We were so happy to chat with Rachel about what's been going on with her (she's been just a bit busy these days). We get the inside scoop on SNL, on that beautiful dinner in NYC, and on what this sudden rise to fame has felt. Plus, we answer - once and for all - the age old question of: "what. color?"Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Catch us out on YouTube - @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 13: What's new with Rachel Reid?

This week, Maxine (@maxinemaxinenyc) joins us to chat all things Heated Rivalry music. If you're also like us (and like a lot of people) you've (re)discovered romance and the magic of the genre. So if you're wanting to explore some romance books that are perfect companions to the Game Changers series, this episode is for you! Episode 11: Books to Fill the Heated-Rivalry Shaped Void

Welcome to the first edition of Craft Cottage, a new segment where Ruby and Ada talk all things craft and the art of creating romance. This week, we take the Tuna Melt scene and break down why it's so important to the narrative of Heated Rivalry, how it moves the plot forward, and why any other ending to that scene would not have given us the same story. So pull up a Muskoka chair, grab a ginger ale, and let's dig in!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Watch on YouTube @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 10: Deconstructing the Tuna Melt

Episode 9: We say Thank You, Jacob and Brendan!

This week, we are joined by the one and only Chala Hunter, intimacy coordinator and future Order of Canada winner (probably...we don't know...but if it were up to us...). We sat down with Chala to chat intimacy coordination, the importance of communication, and how jazz helps her relax. Safe to say, our week was MADE.Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Watch on YouTube @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!

Episode 8: Choreographing Intimacy with Chala Hunter

Ruby and Ada discuss the thing that's been most talked about...yes, we're talking about all those intimate moments in season 1! How do they compare to the book and what do they mean? We've never dissected sex so intently - Ruby even built a spreadsheet (it's live in the Episode Notes section of our website!)Follow us on Instagram and TikTok @looncallpod!Watch on YouTube @looncallpod!Check us out at www.looncallpodcast.com!
