El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)

Jim and A.Ron watched Netflix’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.  We follow Jesse as he escapes from the nazi compound, and fondly remember a time when nazism in America seemed preposterous.  They enjoyed the movie overall, and are always glad to be back in the ABQ. Season 4 Wrapup

Jim and A.Ron consider our thoughts on season four as a whole, the state of the series, our hopes and predictions for what might come next, and just a ton of your thoughts and feedback as well! See you back for the fifth season.
17/10/181h 45m

410 – Winner

Jim and A.Ron have mixed reviews for AMC's Better Call Saul's season four finale, "Winner". We're a house divided as to whether "Winner" did enough to justify this season's at times uneven pacing and anti-climactic storytelling. Still, neither of us think the season was bad by any stretch, and this episode has tons of great scenes; the end of Mike and Werner's working relationship, Kim coming to the realization that she's just another in a long line of Jimmy's suckers, Jimmy breaking down in his Esteem at the fundamental injustice he feels he faces in society. Whether it all adds up to a compelling whole is a question everyone has to answer for themselves. Regardless, we'll be back next week to wrap things up and entertain counter arguments and theories for what territory Saul will be treading next. See you then!
10/10/182h 1m

409 – Wiedersehen

Jim and A.Ron are excited to see a return of tension and intrigue with the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul. The traditional Jimmy scam gets a Kim-style twist that was very well executed. Don Hector receiving his bell was perhaps unnecessary, but it was really fun to watch. The drama with Werner and the explosives and his ensuing escape attempt fueled the episode with much needed suspense. Finally, Jimmy and Kim's roof-top blow-up was as volcanic as it was tragic, uncomfortable, and real. It will be interesting to see what places they take Jimmy's and Kim's legal careers as well as the warming war between the Fring organization and the Salamancas with Nacho caught in the middle in what is sure to be a barn burning season finale. See you then!

408 – Coushatta

We found ourselves in the minority of fans after watching AMC's Better Call Saul's latest episode, "Coushatta". While not a bad episode per se, Jim and I were both let down by the actual scheme to befuddle the DA for Huell's case, and taken off guard by the sudden shift in what we perceived as Kim's character. On the other hand, caching up with Nacho was a rewarding experience, and we're truly excited by the possibilities Lalo entering the picture presents. We discuss all this and more plus tons of great listener feedback with smart dissents in the landmark case of Bald Move vs. Kim Wexler.

407 – Something Stupid

Despite a warp speed, nearly ten month jump ahead in time, AMC's Better Call Saul proceeds in a deliberate pace, offering just over 40 minutes of content, with just under 9 minutes of montage filling the screen time. One ball that's left to bounce for the entire period is Nacho, the only major principle character we don't get caught up on. Gus has healed Hector to the exact level he needs to maximize his revenge plot. Mike is struggling with an over budget superlab with a crew of bored and increasingly sloppy Germans, and Kim and Jimmy's relationship is on life support. And that's before Jimmy comes to Kim with a big ask to save our favorite not-so-big-man, Huell. If the pace has been slow, the tension has been fairly high, the next three weeks will hopefully have enough fireworks to carry us to season five!

406 – Piñata

We discuss the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Piñata". Gus gets really creepy, Kim gently closes the door on the law offices of Wexler and McGill, Mike shows the Germans some American hospitality after making peace with his daughter in law, and Jimmy puts the fear of Saul into some local punks. We discuss all this plus a ton of great feedback!

405 – Quite a Ride

Jim and A.Ron tackle a very good and very Kim and Jimmy episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Quite a Ride". A taste of BrBa-era Saul! The origins of the Superlab!  The return of grifting at the ol' Dog House and the Wash Tub! Lots of nostalgia and lots of great character development and a very fun montage anchor this episode and make it a stand out. Plus, we talk therapy, Kim theories, thoughts on Gus' background and much more in our feedback section!

404 – Talk

Okay, okay, perhaps we shouldn't have used the dreaded "b"-word when describing this episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Talk". But we're just saying, sometimes the show's "stately" pace dips into the realm of the "staid", and it's times likes this two fan boys can hope for some Cousins' fueled mayhem. Still, the episode had its stand out moments; Mike's intense reaction to Stacey trying to move on from the death of his son; and Kim's soul searching by way of low stakes courtroom drama. But we're already looking ahead to the job Gus has for Mike. We discuss all this plus tons of feedback... see you next week!

403 – Something Beautiful

We continue to be pleased at the pace Better Call Saul is maintaining in the early stretches of season 4. Checkov's letter? Bam! Here it is. Waiting to see how long it will take for the other shoe to drop on Nacho's flip by Gus? Blam! Blam! You got it. There's also some suggestion of how Jimmy eventually becomes an important underworld connector in the Breaking Bad timeline, if you know how to connect the dots. Plus, we get a pair of nifty back-alley surgery/thievery sequences. All this and tons of feedback, coming your way!

402 – Breathe

AMC's Better Call Saul delivers the goods in another tense episode, reminding us to "Breathe". Between Gus's high stakes plot to squeeze the Salamanca gang by taking ownership of Nacho to Kim's blistering of Howard in his own firm over his callous treatment of Jimmy, this episode had plenty of fireworks. Speaking of Jimmy, the real mystery that is driving a lot of the intrigue this season is the man himself. What's going on with him? Why is he going through the motions with Kim? Why can't he get out of his own ways? Is the ghost of Chuck still haunting him, or are there deeper problems going on in his mental machinery? We ponder all this and more with the help of plenty of fan feedback!

401 – Smoke

Welcome back to Better Call Saul! We take a look at the latest episode, "Smoke", where Jimmy spends the majority of the episode wallowing in pathos after discovering his brother has burned himself alive before taking a wrong turn in Albuquerque towards emotionally inappropriate whistling and fish feeding. What gives, Jimmy? Meanwhile Nacho fails to cleanly disengage from his Salamanca sabotage, and Mike gives Madrigal a surprise security audit. All this plus tons of great feedback from our fellow fans!

Season 4 Preview

Jim and A.Ron ready themselves to dive into season four of AMC's Better Call Saul! Topics include; season five already being greenlit, what's next for Jimmy and Kim, Mike and Gus, Nacho and his dad's upholstery business, the shows promised "darker" turn, and where we want to see the series go as it winds up to it's assumed conclusion next season. We also raise the frequently asked question; when will we see Walt? See you next week for an in depth episode breakdown and feedback from our fellow fans!
01/08/1849m 57s

Season 3 Wrapup

Jim and A.Ron gather for a final time to say good bye until next time to AMC's Better Call Saul. And, we know it's just until next time because AMC picked up the show for a fourth season. Huzzah! With that out of the way, we reconsider our opinions on season three, look ahead at how this season will impact the characters moving forward, debate about how the show has gone up til now, talk about mental health, and get an extraordinary amount of feedback to consider form our fellow fans. See you next year!
28/06/171h 37m

310 – Lantern

Season three of AMC's Better Call Saul is in the books with the finale episode, "Lantern". The show is really on fire this season. As confirmed #F&%@Chuck supporters, we're delighted to see Chuck get roasted, which left a warm and toasty feeling in our hearts. Some plot points and character details might seemed burnt out, but we think the Villigang is just blowing smoke our direction to distract us. We are all hot for what seems like an inevitable Nacho / Gus team up, maybe they can hash out the details at an ABQ BBQ to benefit local fire fighters? And while Kim and Jimmy's chemistry isn't as smoldering as we would like, Patrick Fabians performance is searing as Howard burns his bridges with Chuck who goes down in flames. If they keep turning up the heat, who knows how scorching this show can get?!
21/06/172h 2m

309 – Fall

Jim and A.Ron are now on the #F&%$EveryBodyButKim bandwagon, now that Jimmy has really fallen so morally and ethically far in AMC's Better Call Saul, appropriately titled "Fall". It's shocking, disgusting, and horrific, and it's hard to see how anyone we remotely care about makes it out of this season unscathed. Poor Kim. Poor Irene. We'll have to see what devastation the Villigang has in store for us next week for the season finale...
14/06/171h 44m

308 – Slip

Jim and A.Ron discuss the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Slip". We note, rather ominously, the next episode title is "Fall". Gulp. We discuss better strategies for pill swapping, the probably bowel patterns of an elderly man who's diet consists entirely of Mexican food and espresso, and give a full-throated cheer for Kim serving some cold justice to one Howard Hamlin.
07/06/171h 38m

307 – Expenses

"Expenses", the latest installment of AMC's Better Call Saul, is a workman-like connective episode that really develops the themes of this season while delivering superior performances. We discuss Mike's motivations to help the Cobbler / Nacho, Jimmy getting way too in to his mock scam of some dick who's particular about his martinis, Kim's difficulty in dealing with her help in tearing down a sick man, before delving into the depths of our Scotch ignorance in the mailbag.
24/05/171h 46m

306 – Off Brand

Jim and A.Ron found a lot to like in the latest Better Call Saul, "Off Brand". The sense of something new, new characters, new directions, old scotch paired with new beginnings. Just a whiff of that "new car smell" coming off the show this week. Plus, we can't overstate how much fun it is to see Jimmy/Saul in his new role as crappy local TV commercial director guy.
17/05/171h 34m

305 – Chicanery

Jim and A.Ron are highly impressed at the high stakes quasi-legal and totally legit familial drama on hand with the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Chicanery". A masterclass in acting and dialog, Jimmy has to go three levels deep in scamming to fool Chuck, but he manages to do so, with devastating results. But how does Jimmy skate given his crimes? Will this end the blood feud between the brothers? Will Chuck go darker? Will Kim get caught in the cross fire? We discuss all this, plus feedback, and a rather excited spoiler section geeking out over next week's episode.
10/05/171h 34m

304 – Sabrosito

The latest outing for AMC's Better Call Saul, "Sabrosito", offers more intriguing information on our favorite Chicken Brother, Gus Fring, as we go back in time to explore the Eladio Cartel's internal politics, and the petty jealousies and rivalries that will eventually add up to Fring's pyrrhic victory over his associates to the South. But we also have some family drama as Jimmy and Chuck continue to wage their cold, legal war against each other. Will the law offices of Wexler and McGill triumph over HHM? My money's on Victor and Giselle. Also, Mike turns down ice cream, the absolute mad man.
03/05/171h 16m

303 – Sunk Costs

"Sunk Costs" is able to perfectly balance the tension in the dueling Mike/Jimmy story lines being juggled on AMC's Better Call Saul, with clear stakes for both our protagonists as they form powerful alliances and prepare to do battle with worthy foes. Mike's machinations against Hector offer the most visceral thrills, but Jimmy's legal battle against his brother promises the most twists and turns. Will Jimmy's legal license survive? Will his relationship with Kim weather this latest storm?
26/04/171h 29m

302 – Witness

In the latest episode of AMC's Better Call Saul, the tables are turned as Jimmy becomes Mike's private investigator as he continues to try to unravel the mysterious "DON'T" message writer. Tables are later flipped as Chuck employs his own private investigators in an elaborate scheme to unravel Jimmy. Basically, this episode is all unraveling and private eyes.
19/04/171h 35m

301 – Mabel

With A.Ron on vacation, I'm joined by Eric from Personal Arrogants and Direct to cover the season 3 premiere of the most effortlessly gripping show on television. We speculate about the various plans put in motion this episode and where it's all going, the final fate of Jimmy / Saul / Gene and devise a new spin-off for the Breaking Bad universe.
12/04/171h 15m

Season Three Preview

Jim and A.Ron are getting ready for season three of AMC's Better Call Saul, by reviewing the advance material and last year's continuing plots. What will Chuck do with Jimmy's confession tape? Who is trying to come between Mike and his vengeance, and why? Can Jimmy and Kim find a way to work together in their separate but equal law firm? When will Gus rear his handsome, mild-mannered head? All this and more is discussed. See you next week for the premiere!
05/04/1742m 12s

210 – Klick

We're trying to walk a fine line here. On the one hand, we are impressed as we can be with the quality, pacing, and storytelling on display throughout season two of AMC's "Better Call Saul". Heck, we even really like the finale, episode 210, "Klick". But we also have a few problems with how they're going about doing what they do, and worry that the mounting coincidences, reliance on karmic timing and a fairly limp reveal for the finale will eventually undermine the enterprise. And we have a giant mailbag full of opinions from you and your fellow fans.
20/04/161h 48m

209 – Nailed

Episode 209 of AMC's "Better Call Saul", entitled "Nailed", is superlative, and takes us on quite the intense and unexpected emotional rollercoaster. We can't wait to see what goes down in the finale next week! But first things first, we talk about Mike's snatching a total moral defeat from the jaws of victory, Chuck's crazy pants theory that just happens to be true, Kim's very nuanced and perhaps conditional acceptance of Jimmy's wily ways, and much more, including tons of great feedback from our fellow fans.
13/04/161h 32m

208 – Fifi

A.Ron and Jim are digging Better Call Saul's latest episode, "Fifi", which finds the perfect Mike/Jimmy balance and pacing. Your mileage may vary, of course, but lots of intriguing and interesting things are afoot. Jimmy is smuggling "war heroes" on Air Force bases, Chuck is sabotaging Kim and Jimmy's dreams of teaming up, and Mike is dabbling in rather unconventional gardening accessories. We discuss this and more with help from our fellow fans!
06/04/161h 38m

207 – Inflatable

Episode 207 of AMC's Better Call Saul, "Inflatable", was the best of Jimmy, and the worst of Jimmy. While his colorful sabotage of the corporate, buttoned down Davis and Main firm was entertaining, and the sabotage/montage a masterful edit by Insider Podcaster Kelley Dixon, it was at the expense of some genuinely good people. And while it's wonderful that Mike can provide a comfortable and safe lifestyle for his daughter and law and granddaughter, we know it eventually sets up a situation which forces the doting Mike to abandon them both. Lots of mixed and poignant feelings in this one. Plus, we get lots of feedback as people put on their theory hats and give us their best shots.
30/03/161h 16m

Better Cast Saul - 206 - Bali Ha'i

It's episode 206 of Better Call Saul, "Bali Ha'i", and the cameos keep coming. When will Jim's hands start shaking worse than Mike after bouncing two wannabee tough guys out of his hacienda? We discuss the various deals, scams, and schemes that make up the bulk of this episode, undertake the complex task of figuring out what the chameleon Howard is all about, wonder what's next for Mike, and worry about the future of Kim's career. Is the S&C offer genuine, or an Akbar-esque trap. Lots more Star Wars analogies, feedback, and even Law Talk on offer this podcast.
23/03/161h 28m

205 – Rebecca

Welcome to our coverage of Better Call Saul's episode 205, "Rebecca", in which we find some new revelations about Chuck and Jimmy's past, as well as some very dangerous future entanglements for Mike. We come at the episode with two distinct POV's; Jim is pro-Chuck, while I'm broadly anti-Chuck, and as a result, we have very different interpretations for a lot of the character conflicts in this episode. Which side do you come down on? Who is right, who is wrong, or are the answers going to be more shades of grey?
16/03/161h 57m

204 – Gloves Off

Jim and A.Ron are loving the latest episode of Better Call Saul, number 204, "Gloves Off". Lots of great background and historical details to give our Breaking Bad side the warm fuzzies, and lots of present day action and character intrigue to satisfy our inner Sauls. We discuss our increasingly nuanced positions on Chuck and Jimmy as characters, what a raw deal Kim got, the cool background details we got on the enigmatic Mike, plow through tons of feedback, and more Law Talk!
09/03/161h 23m

203 – Amarillo

Welcome to this week's podcast covering episode 203 of Better Call Saul, "Amarillo". In it, we discuss solid gold armadillos, the ethics of solicitation, the mental state of one Stacie Ehrmantraut, possible ways the Nacho/Mike plot line can connect to Saul and even Gus, and ponder Jimmy's recklessness and a possibly upcoming Canary Trap strategy to take down Sand Piper. All this, tons of feedback, and a segment of Law Talk with legal analysis from our bullpen of putative lawyers. Enjoy!
02/03/161h 41m

202 – Cobbler

We thouroughly enjoyed the second outing of "Better Call Saul's" second season, "Cobbler". It had it all, really, and there's a lot to discuss. We move through Jimmy's various legal wranglings, ponder his relationship with Chuck and the complex psychology at work, witness the beginning of the end of Jimmy and Kim's relationship, and worry for the security of her career, if not her life. Oh, and we discuss pie based erotica, you know, if you're into that sort of thing. This plus a ton of feedback. See you next week
24/02/161h 35m

201 – Switch

Better Call Saul is back, and we have a lot to say about the new episode, 201, "Switch"! We got all the angles covered, from fictional high end tequila to the hot new breakfast cereal, Chocobolo, hummingbird and douchey investor cameos, Kim/Jimmy relational angst, and all points in between. Plus, a lot of great fellow fan feedback and some bonus legal analysis.

110 – Marco

Jim and A.Ron sign off of Better Call Saul on our coverage of the finale episode, number 110 entitled "Marco"... We discuss our changing perceptions of Chuck and Hamlin, Jimmy's Cicero week o' scams, pinky rings, and parking lot based changes of heart. Along the way, we consider a ton of great feedback, and towards the end, consider Better Call Saul's place alongside it's big brother, Breaking Bad. Perhaps a bit premature, but the fact that we can have an interesting conversation at this point is high praise all by itself, no? Thanks for a great first season, we've had a blast, and we can't wait to catch up to Jimmy next year.
08/04/151h 50m

109 – Pimento

Jim and A.Ron might sound like a bit of a broken record, but we feel that episode 109 of AMC's Better Call Saul, entitled "Pimento", just might be the BEST. EPISODE. EVER.

107 – Bingo

We discuss the hideousness that is the Kettlemans, Jimmy's noble sacrifice for Kim, MIke's voracious appetite for apples, and what fake Skymall products Chuck needs to cure his fake illness, and much, much more. All this plus a healthy five apple a day diet of feedback, for your enjoyment!
18/03/151h 11m

106 – Five-O

Jim and A.Ron were pleasantly surprised by a complete departure of tone and character in episode 106 of Better Call Saul, "Five-O". We discuss bleach by-passes, struggle to understand tank top undershirts, as we navigate formative moments of the Man Trout's life in three month increments. Plus, a full featured feedback section fairly bursting at the seams!
11/03/151h 11m

105 – Alpine Shepherd Boy

Another great episode of Better Call Saul, number 105, "Jello", er, I mean "Alpine Shepherd Boy"!  We discuss filthy toilets, life questioning pedicures, the ethics of committing crazy loved ones, the joys of just watching Jonathan Banks, and much more.  All this, including tons of feedback (this week is at least 33% lawyers), ready to bust down your door and tase you into submission.
04/03/151h 5m

104 – Hero

Jim and A.Ron loved this episode, number 104 of Better Cast Saul, "Hero", which we see as a huge step forward in tone, pacing, and world building. We got a kick out of seeing the origins of "S'all good, man", giant trashy bill boards, the bridging of the gap between Slippin' Jimmy and Saul, the deepening of his relationship to Kim, further Nacho entanglements, and lots and lots of butthole to go around. All this, and a ton of your insight, expertise and fan theories, coming right at you!
25/02/151h 33m

103 – Nacho

Relax, everyone on the internet! Jim finally is pleased with an episode of Better Call Saul... In the series third outing, we get a hint of the plot that's going to be moving perhaps a good chuck of the rest of the season, as Jimmy McGill and a huge bag of ill gotten funds finally meet. How we got to that point is interesting too, as we bear witness to the demise of Slipping Jimmy, get hints about the nature of Jimmy and Kim's relationship, and see the genesis of a more congenial relationship between Mike and the man who will one day be called Saul. And sex robots! All this, a ton of feedback, and the barest whiff of a spoiler section that morphs into an impromptu Bald Move TV segment. Just, a lot of stuff happens on this podcast. Enjoy!
18/02/151h 37m

102 – Mijo

Welcome to our coverage of Better Call Saul episode 102, "Mijo"! We talk Tuco's culinary skills, Jimmy's gift of gab, a possible Nacho connection to the classic Breaking Bad series, some gun related anachronisms, and Wrong Swanson. All this, tons of feedback, and the barest whiff of a spoiler section, and don't worry, it's safely tucked away at the very end of the episode if you don't want to hear it. See you next week!
11/02/151h 17m

101 – Uno

Jim and A.Ron had a lot of complex feelings about the first episode of Better Call Saul, "Uno".  A.Ron enjoyed the super sized portion of Saul, but worried about the sustainability of the rate of easter eggs and classic BrBa character appearances, while Jim was bothered by pacing.  We also talked about the Aztek of Azteks, dent trash cans, scams both large and small, and much more.  Plus a ton of great feedback, the fans are bringing it from week one!  Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned tomorrow for our in depth coverage of episode 102, "Mijo"!

101 & 102 – Uno & Mijo – Instant Take

Jim and A.Ron take a look at the first two episodes of Better Call Saul, "Uno" and "Mijo", and shoot from the hip.  What did we like?  What concerns us?  What would Breaking Bad virgins make of this? The show has enourmous potential, but equally enourmous expectations.  Can't wait to see what you guys think of it and to see where this show goes over the next two (at least) seasons!
