SIM Ep 179 IMD 4: Jordan Stephens on toxic masculinity

By Standard Issue

This week we’re doing things a bit differently. We’re always wanging on about how gender inequality is a ballbag for everyone – because it is. And so, ahead of International Men’s Day on November 19, we decided to do a series of interviews where we chatted to blokes about what’s going on with the dudes. In this episode, Jen catches up with writer, performer and campaigner Jordan Stephens, who found fame at a young age as part of hip-hop duo, Rizzle Kicks. They talked about toxic masculinity, redefining prescribed gender characteristics and why putting men on a pedestal can actually harm them. If some of the subjects Jen and Jordan touch on in this interview have affected you, or you feel you need to talk, you can contact the Samaritans in the UK and Republic of Ireland by phone on: 116 123, or via email at: Jo@Samaritans.org (UK)/Jo@Samaritans.ie (ROI). Keep your ears peeled for chats with writer and mental health advocate Matt Haig; Shadow Health Secretary Jonathan Ashworth; Dr Jacob Whittingham Vigors of Fight For Peace; and domestic violence campaigner Luke Hart.
