Is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse an Oscar Contender? - Mailbag

By Collider

On today’s Collider Mailbag (December 1, 2018), Perri Nemiroff and John Rocha answer the following questions from the Collider fans:

1. After IT made $123M in September last year, ten of the twelve months had at least one $100M opening weekend. The only two months that don’t have one yet are January & October. Will either month achieve this in the next three to five years?

2. What true sports story would you like to be made into the movie?

3. Lotta love for Into the Spider-Verse right now. You think it’s gonna win the Oscar?

4. What is the issue with critics’ hatred of nostalgia? In my opinion, I love to see Easter eggs and certain stories connect in a nice little bow. Is it just that we are overpowered with nostalgia?

5. This is the first time I have ever talked about this to anyone but for my entire life I have felt ashamed for loving films. My biological and later adopted family and friends has put me down a lot and has made fun of my love for cinema. To be honest, it really hurts me because I always wanted to be in the film industry. I would love to have some type of career in talking about films. I fear though that my family and friends would make fun of me or put me down again for wanting to do what I have a passion and love for which is movies. I was wondering if any of you had any encouraging advice for me, please? I really do look up to you all at Collider and y’all are my role models in my life. Thank you.
