Podcast 11 - Lala Explains - A Mental Health Special - with @anontheartistofficial and @sorayastuart

By Layla Explain

This week Layla is joined by special guests rapper and mental health advocate @anontheartistofficial and mental health vlogger @sorayastuart to discuss questions sent in by listeners including: My family aren’t understanding of mental health at all and feel that I just need to get on with it. I need to seek help before my mental health gets worse, but how can you deal with unsupportive relatives and friends? It’s really putting me off getting help What can I do to help my best friend? There’s days when she won’t speak or let me see her as she doesn’t want to see anyone. I feel like as her best friend I should be doing more but I don’t know what to say. I lost my Dad to suicide and I have a real fear of getting close to a man just in case they just leave in an instant. I have been single for 6 years, I just can’t bear the thought of getting close to someone for them to just leave. I recently came out of a short relationship with a guy with mental health issues (depression/anxiety)Unfortunately he ended things as he started to get anxious about the relationship What wold be your advice for dealing with mental health issues in a relationship and how to respect someone’s boundaries when starting something with someone with a history of mental ill health? I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I am finding it very hard to get the correct help as I work full time but it affects my life massively. Any suggestions on self-help or is seeing a therapist my only way to cure this horrible disorder? How can you tell the difference between normal pain/heart-ache after a break up and real depression? How do you stop MH issues and traumas impacting on dating? Can being neglected and abused as a child make you treat your girlfriends badly even if you are in love? I have children and a professional career, I am in a dark place but I don’t want to seek professional help in case a referral is made to social services or my employers find out and think I am not capable of doing my job. What options do I have? What do you do when your anxiety has crippled you for months but you still have bills to pay and deadlines to meet? Is self-medicating with cannabis going to make things worse?
