Ep 267: Turning Pain into Power with Maggie Oliver and Amy Jones

By Badass Women’s Hour

What do you do when you know there are injustices happening and the people who are meant to be "the do-gooders" just wont listen to you?

Are to-do lists actually an affective way of organising our days? Or is it just causing us to be over critical and set expectations for ourselves too high!

Amy Jones, writer and podcaster talks to the badass ladies about her obsession with trying to organise her life and constantly writing To-Do lists. After starting her first post grad job Amy says she used to-do lists to make herself feel like she was being Uber-productive, but as a result she found that she started confusing social time with her work time and tasks.

Amy shares with Harriet and Amanda what it has taught her about life, mindfulness, her depression, anxiety and the way she treats herself day to day! Her new book The To-Do List and Other Debacles is out now.

Maggie Oliver the Detective that revealed the truth of the Rochdale grooming scandal, she is talking about the journey of detailing her experiences in her new book survival.

Maggie is sharing the deeper story to what was going on her life at the time of the scandal in 2004 & 2005. She is explaining to Harriet and Amanda the battle she faced trying to get justice for the victims of the rochdale scandal, the stress and frustrations as she was repeatedly ignored and turned away by higher ranked officers.

She tells the ladies about stepping out after the death of her husband and travelling to Borneo to raise money for bowel cancer, and they are blown away by Maggie’s amazing resilience to the difficult cards she has been dealt in life.

Ultimately Maggie says that it’s her life skills that meant she was able to have family open up to her so that she could rebuild damage relationships.

And She talks through her vision as she sets up the “Maggie Oliver Foundation” helping women and young girls who have been victims of violent behaviour to “transform their pain into power.”
