On the 17th of June, 2018, Fathers day in the UK, Marvyn Harrison decided to create a WhatsApp group with all of the positive black fathers he knew (at the time this was 23) to wish them a 'Happy Fathers Day', ‘Thank you’ and ‘Congratulations’ for their positive influence in their child’s lives and changing the perception of black men for the better. This then progressed into Marvyn founding 'Dope Black Dads', a safe space in which a group of black dads based in London, New York and South Africa could come together and provide a progressive discussion around the male parenting experience, discussing the highs and lows of what it means to be a black father in today’s society. A mere four months later, the group took a leap and 'The Dope Black Dads Podcast' was born. It was time to hear the story behind the man who speaks for so many others, and to find out what was it about his past, and his father, that drove him to being an advocate, a voice and and an inspiration to not only black fathers...but all fathers, men, women, boys and girls alike.
