S1 Ep7: Accountability, Acceptance and Sobriety: Confronting addiction and becoming anti-racist with Joanne Bradford

By Nova Reid

In this episode I interview counsellor, coach and founder of Motherheart Joanne Bradford.

There is so much vulnerability and open hearted conversation in this episode. It is VERY special. We discuss being sober and the link between confronting addiction and behaviour that doesn't serve us and becoming anti-racist.

We also talk about some of Joanne's anti racism journey, her experience of doing Layla Saad's groundbreaking #meandmywhitesupremacy challenge and how others perceived her while she was doing it. We also explore some self interrogation during the recording. We discuss the concept of 'tone policing' and the importance of accountability. We discuss relationships that do and don't serve us, barriers to accessing therapy for people in Black Minority Ethnic communities and what we can do to better create safe spaces.
Joanne even turns the episode upside down and she becomes the accidental host and me the interviewee!

Relax and enjoy!
