Confessions of a Modern Parent
Our Guilt & Regrets: How can we face our guilt and regrets as parents?
Friday, 19 June
We start as parents with anecdotal advice. At every stage of parenting, we have no experience, there's no rulebook, so of course there's hiccups along the way.
When we look back on how we raised our children, it's easy in hindsight to see how things could have been different, or perhaps better. And naturally from feeling that way, comes guilt and regret.
We're all carrying our parents mistakes as they are carrying the mistakes made before them. We're left to navigate parenting only by copying the good examples we've seen and the bad we choose to avoid. So how can we frame parenting without guilt and regret? How can we be fair on ourselves whilst owning mistakes we may have made, or forgiving the mistakes of our parents and generations beyond?
Nadia and Mark talk about at the complex issue of parental regret. About understanding their upbringing to better understand their choices as parents. In this heart-felt episode, they both face difficult times to explore their success as parents and reflect on times they would change given a chance to do it all again.
Hear this and much more in this episode of Confessions Of A Modern Parent.
And they take questions and suggestions from listeners on their experiences in parenting roles.
