Caffeine Cast: How to Balance Your Day Job With a Side Hustle [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

By Rob Moore

If you’re constantly wondering how people manage to work a full-time job and hold down an additional income source on the side, today you can find out how this can be possible for you too. Join Rob today as he gives some advice on how you can achieve your business goals, by simply setting yourself a specific date to achieve your goals in order to keep you focused, defining your key result areas and making these the focal point of your time as well as ensuring you remain consistent when you’re in the flow of momentum.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Set yourself a specific date, some time in the midterm future where you have achieved whatever goal it is your desiring to achieve but haven’t yet set. Your time frame is depending on how much time you have, and how much income you have already. It is ideal to have a scalable plan somewhere between realistic and optimistic, optimistic maybe months, realistic maybe years. Go somewhere in the middle.

The first part of the plan is to compartmentalise your diary and slot in key result areas and income-generating tasks for your side hustle. Even if you are working long shifts or have other commitments, go through that diary and block your time accordingly.

The best thing to do in your plan is to know what your key result areas are. These are the areas that will achieve your vision, that will have the highest impact in achieving your goals and your mission. You do your key result areas, then you outsource all your none income-generating tasks to a VA.

In the property industry, there are four key result areas only. Viewings, offers, finance and management and everything else is admin. There are no other key result areas, yet you could write hundreds of things to do each day, and the majority of them would not be classed as a key result area.

You need to remain consistent, this could be three hours a week as long as you don’t miss a week. Life gets in the way, but when you’re moving you have got to keep moving and when you’re thinking about things, you will get them done. When you’re in the flow it is so much harder to get out of that flow when you’re in momentum. Once you have nailed your routine, keep consistent so as not to lose momentum.

What you have got to stop doing is thinking and believing that it  is easier for everyone else, it is just different for everyone else. Those that earn really good money may have more to lose, but you can leverage your experience and will have different upsides to others. As soon as you say it is easier for others, you are losing. It is never easier, it is only different.

BEST MOMENTS

“The amount of time doesn’t matter, the vital thing is the habit.”

“Our old habits die hard.”

“Most entrepreneurs seem to be momentum junkies. Once we’re on a roll, it is hard to stop us, but once we get out of a habit, it is hard to get back on it again.”

“Stop comparing yourself to everyone else. We’ve all got a different story, we’ve all got a different scenario, we all come from different backgrounds, we’re all in a different stage of life.”
