Daddy Issues Podcast
Wednesday, 5 August
This weeks episode is with the INCREDIBLE ARTIST ELIZABETH ILSLEY.
Elizabeth and I recorded her episode in the muddy height of lockdown, and although you only get an hour and 20 minutes of her inspiring story and general amazing VIBE, we were actually on the phone for a solid 3 HOURS, cracking into a couple of cans, and experiencing the tribes and tribulations of distant recording with a particular TERRIFYING moment which could have been disastrous (don't worry, I've edited all the angst out).
I quickly fell in love with Elizabeth, as it was not only like talking to an old friend (3 hours), but her honesty, openness, vulnerability, humanity, humility and strength all came at me at once, and you know that she is being exactly who she is, at all times.
Elizabeth made a name for herself very young whilst studying at art school, after she handed in a second-hand leather jacket she'd painted the back of with a slogan (inspired by something she once told her ex-boyfriend), 'I shave my legs for you'. Her teachers rolled their eyes, but her peers got excited, taking it in turns to try it on. She realised she was onto something.
She posted the jacket on instagram, fell asleep, and woke up to 3000 more followers (including the singer, Rhianna)and opportunities from magazines and establishments she could have only dreamed of, just hours before.
Elizabeth has experienced both an absent father, and currently, an absent mother, and in between both of these losses, for a brief but scary moment, she lost herself too.
She's amazing. And you will fall in love with her as much as I have.
I can't wait for you to hear her story.
If you like what you hear, it would be so appreciated if you could rate, review and subscribe as we love hearing your thoughts and feedback, and it helps get the podcast to reach more ears (apparently).
