Main topic this week: “Is Podcast Search a Game Changer?”

-Define “Podcast Search”
-Keyword Searches to Discover New Shows via a traditional search engine - works!
-Keyword Searches inside the actual audio episode of a podcast to discover shorter audio
-Many believe that audio search is key to solving podcast discovery and is the future, but history proves this is wrong.
-The http://Audiosear.ch is an example
-Audiosear.ch Clipmaker and This American Life audio clip sharing tools, Clammer.
-Clip sharing has a small place in how people discover new shows
-Key way people hear about new podcasts is via word of mouth

Tip of the Week: Authentic Audio Storytelling

- Most Podcasts are Storytelling Podcasts - Hosts describing anything is often rooted in an explained story that is often rooted in authentic life experiences.
-Authentic is REAL and NATURAL voices and life experience storytelling
-How to do this? Find the most interesting aspect of your authentic story and tease it. Then add a little self-depreciating humor, condense the audio with authentic stories.
-Professional Level Storytelling podcasts are like “Audio Drama’s” or “Journalistic Reporting”.
-Most Comedy is storytelling
-Format Reality or Fiction, most are reality based, fiction shows are usually based on literature and are like audio TV dramas that have scripts and have sound effects, actors.

Listener Comments and Feedback on SLS91: Sparking Podcast Listener Feedback

Happy holidays fellas. I really needed to hear this episode. Thank you so much, I've done a lot of these things to try to improve listener engagement, and nothing has worked. I get a comment here and there but that's about it people don't use SpeakPipe, my twitter interaction is higher, but no actual comments. I'll keep going, maybe a few more listeners will join in. I'd actually be very happy to have a small group of regulars.

You and Alex do a great job with the show - keep up the great work.

A topic you could address (or re-address) is the ins and outs of affiliate programs and sponsorships, specifically when it comes to social media sharing your affiliate link to promote a product.

There was a very caustic social media exchange I noticed over the Thanksgiving holiday where a podcaster suggested a podcaster tool (mic, etc) without comment that the link to the product was an affiliate link that he would get commission. When that was found out, and he was "called out" on it, f-bombs went a flyin' from the podcaster that offered the product suggestion. That is the first I have ever seen this type of behavior among podcasters - sad.

Anyway, I'm sure there are FTC rules/regs that should be followed, and it might be product to product/affiliate program to affiliate program. I have instructed my network podcasters to always include #ad in the social media feed.

What have you and Alex seen/heard/done?

Thanks
