His story is a colourful one, and his early years were shaped to a large extent by the tragic loss of his sister Francesca in the Marchioness river boat disaster on the Thames. It became his driving force, and the source of much pride to him, to honour her memory with his performances on the pitch. A fiercely proud family man and patriot who used emotion and passion to fuel his rugby like few others, Lawrence enjoyed enormous success on the field with Wasps, England and the British and Irish Lions.
