EP9 - Martin Offiah on Courage

EP9 - Martin Offiah on Courage

By Alastair Eykyn | Auddy

Martin was arguably the greatest rugby league player of his generation, and amongst those of any generation. A showman, he collected 20 Cup winning medals across a glittering career that featured an eye-watering 501 tries, many of them mesmerising in their brilliance, and courageous in their conception. He was dazzlingly fast, beautifully balanced, strong in contact and possessed a rare gift for finding the try line. Displaying the courage to be different in his approach, and to overcome horrific racial abuse, Martin was an integral part of the all-conquering Wigan team of the ’80s and ’90s, and scored 26 tries in his 33 appearances for Great Britain on the international stage. He finished with an MBE and a statue outside Wembley. .........................................
