Prisoners stuck in jail over a law axed a decade ago

By ITV News

ITV News has discovered hundreds of people remain stuck in prison today, under a law abolished a decade ago.

They include an inmate convicted after stealing a cigarette who is still in jail 16 years later - while a 32-year-old man has never returned home after getting two years for stealing a bike at 17.

Northern Reporter Sangita Lal, who reported on this exclusive and extraordinary story, tells ITV News Political Correspondent Daniel Hewitt what you need to know.
