Jeremy Hunt's Autumn Statement made it clear: Britain faces two years of acute social and economic pain. This is the only major country introducing cuts and tax hikes as we head into recession: laying the foundations for a doom loop of falling growth. Has the Tory project finally collapsed? Or will the world's most electorally successful political party find a way to claw back support?
