After being suspended for 8 games, Kyrie Irving has now apologized for sharing a link on Twitter on social media, in print, behind the scenes, face to face, in person, at press conferences, and more. I don't know if I've ever seen a human being apologize more times, in more ways, than Kyrie Irving has had to apologize. Yet, every chance the almost exclusively white members of the sports media get, they continue to press him for more apologies, more acknowledgements, more contrition, more insight, and it's all WAY TOO MUCH. Name an athlete or entertainer who has ever been forced to apologize so many times. And now the hyper-policing of Black speech and Black tweets is expanding to other players. And here's the thing - it has crossed a clear line where this is no longer about fighting bigotry or hatred, to where now it's about making an example of Kyrie Irving. Let me unpack and explain it.
