US Open R1: Serena on song, Halep humbled & shocks for Tsitsipas + Fritz
In the latest episode of Tennis Weekly, Joel and Kim catch up on the first round of the US Open, which saw shocks on day one with Simona Halep, Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas all crashing out to qualifiers.
Conversely, the Brits have had a good opening few days with all through with the exception of Kyle Edmund, including a resilient win for Harriet Dart over 10th seed Daria Kasatkina and Andy Murray claiming a long await straight sets Grand Slam victory.
With easy progress for top seeds Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek, most eyes were on Serena Williams’s farewell ceremony and her first round encounter against Danka Kovinic, which saw her progress through and live to fight another day before retirement.
