Episode 302: Reviewing the LABR Mixed Draft

We step away from our positional previews to discuss the LABR Mixed League draft, which Mike took part in on Tuesday, February 20. We talk about the difference between stand-alone leagues and larger multi-league competitions, strategies for the first four rounds, how to respond to early spring training injury news, building drafts around your starting pitching strategy, what to do when closers get pushed up, and so much more. (I would like to apologize to Nick Martinez for my unkind comment around the 39-minute mark. I'm sure you're a fun guy.)(And I would also like to apologize for my sound quality. My microphone decided to go on holiday just before recording.)The LABR Mixed League draft board can be found here: https://www.rtsports.com/labr-mixed-draftFlags Fly Forever is a Baseball Prospectus podcast. The season is over, long live the season. Or something. Anyway the lads recorded what ended up being their final episode of the regular season during Game 5 of the World Series. Hear them react to a new champion being crowned. Before that, Mike and Samuel went back and forth on what they feel about this year's playoffs as a whole. Episode 296: Now With 100% More Baseball

Oh hi there. How have you been? We've been fine, thanks for asking. If you want to hear about baseball, this is the episode for you. There's a lot of discussion about fantasy off the top, specifically evaluation in hindsight. Real nitty gritty stuff if you're into that. If you're not, fear not! It then diverges into a discussion of the upcoming ALCS...sorta. One member of the team has lost their faith in their club, and wants to publicly opine about it. That splinters off several times. In conclusion, baseball is a land of contrasts. Thank you.Got a content idea for the show? Episode 295: Do You Know Where Your LA Angels Are?

There's an amount of baseball on this episode that should probably be described as "surprising." In what direction is up to you, the listener, to discover. We start with a game based around the revolving door of mediocrity that is the Los Angeles Angels. We live watch the Alex Cobb almost near no hitter (spoiler alert even though it was 3 days ago?). We also do our best to jinx Jon's TGFBI status, even though there is no such thing as a jinx ever. Got a content idea for the show? Episode 294: Food Flies Forever

Oh hi, dear listener. It's been a moment, we've all been busy and baseball has baseball'ed in 2023. But we do have a show for you that has a...select amount of baseball discussion. We also talk about food a lot, travelling, and Jon ends the show with a wonderful fatherhood based anecdote. We're having fun, so we hope you have fun as well.Got a content idea for the show? Episode 293: Baseball Makes A Cameo

Oh hi there. You doing alright? Making sure to drink water and take your medicine? Good, good. We're proud of you for that self care. Anyway, so MLB really has the show down again this week because somehow it only seems to be getting worse. Maybe it'll get better soon, who can say? We sure can't, because it all looks awful. As a result, we ended up doing something really odd on this episode. We went through Cameo looking for baseball players to record new intros for us. It turns into a pseudo game, but you'd be forgiven if it's the musings of three relatively depressed people looking for joy in a grayscale morose of sludge passing for a major sports league. We're doing our best starshine, and hope you are too. Got a content idea for the show? Episode 291: One Great And Two Undetermined Dads Talk Baseball

You'll have to listen to the full episode to understand the title. That's what makes a good title right? Right? Don't answer that actually, just love you. Anyway, I could tell you about all the baseball we talked about on this show. I'd rather tell you though that right after we finished recording, we spent ten minutes discussing our favorite Taylor Swift songs. As men between the ages of 30-55 do. Episode 290: Early Season Escapades With Steve Gardner

Oh hey, didn't see you there. It has been a minute hasn't it? How have you been, how's your spouse, your kids? The job still treating you right? No? Well that blows, unionize your workplace and take back the means of production. Anyway this week we're back after illness and tech problems derailed us for the past two weeks. Mike upon review does sound like he's broadcasting in the past, but it's fine all his content is from this time period(largely). Also we lost Jon, dunno where he went. He wandered off from the group. But good news, USA Today's Steve Gardner showed up! So he filled the role of Jon, and we got all sorts of early season discussion topics on the books. Trade questions, early season player and new rule impressions, all sorts of helpful things for players of all experience levels. Check it out. Or don't, we're podcasters not cops. Episode 289: 2023 Opening Day Special

Releasing a day early to celebrate Opening Day, the lads are back with their full prediction slate. Who will win each division? Who takes home the major awards? Mike, Jon, and Samuel tell you in the first half of the episode. The second half is a game show! Samuel took like two years off from baseball, and uh his knowledge is a little sketch on player movement. Mike and Jon brought a list of players in the hopes of stumping Samuel about their current whereabouts. You can probably figure out how that went. Happy Opening Day!Got a content idea for the show? Episode 288: Finishing Where We Started(Pitching)

It's over. It's finally over. The positional series has come to an end, with all intended disrespect towards catchers and relievers. It's starting pitching week, and since you noticed the episode isn't 19 hours long we're following the same pattern as we did with outfielders. We're hitting the high notes, giving you the map to how to handle starters at both the high and not so end. If you listen to this episode back to back with all our others, you're guaranteed(*) to win your draft(*) and league(*)!(*)=Flags Fly Forever does not actually guarantee victory in drafts or leagues. Mike, Jon, and Samuel are back with a bag of post deadline related things. After that, they move towards cleaning up some of the big trades that went down around the deadline. Episode 270: Trade Deadline 2021 (Sorta) AKA The One About Joey Gallo

The whole crew is back this week, and what a big week to be back. With just under 48 hours until the deadline at recording time Mike, Jon, and Samuel discuss what's happened so far. That mainly starts with Samuel sadboi'ing over the Joey Gallo trade that broke earlier in the day, which derails the show for a good fifteen minutes. The wheels get back on though, with more trade analysis including a big breakdown on Starling Marte for Jesus Luzardo. Episode 269: Substitute Teacher Mikey Ajeto of Pitcher List

Hi y'all, producer Samuel here. As Mike mentions on the show, I'm on assignment this week so I'm not on the show. That said the show features Mike Gianella, Jon Hegglund, and Mikey Ajeto from Pitcher List talking about...something. I asked what I should look out for and I was told "There are swears." So, there's that. I'm assuming there's some baseball talk in there as well. I heard the word "Giants" a few time, so there's something you can latch onto. Also Mikey has a great laugh to end the show, so that's worth listening to all of it for. Anyway, enjoy!Got a content idea for the show? This hardball roulette brings them to Shohei Ohtani's talents and trousers, the recent MLB crypto partnership, what should a quality start actually be, and the foolishness of the sticky stuff enforcement policy. Episode 266: The One About Dennis Lamp

OK, this is probably the wildest episode of the current era. Mike, Jon, and Samuel start the episode talking about basketball, as one does on a fantasy baseball podcast. Then they pivot to their actual discussion, which is about current trends in the game that were unexpected and how that apply fantasy wise. It goes off the rails shortly after as the lads go into a discussion about journeyman reliever Dennis Lamp. No, we're not kidding. It's a lot of fun though.Got a content idea for the show? Baseball was not back, but now it is again. It might not be back by the time you hear this, because pandemics don't care about baseball. However, we know what baseball will look like this year if/when it comes back. The big thing that involves is instituting the universal designated hitter for 2020 and 2021. Mike, Jon, and Samuel spend time talking about how they became writers, how they found their way to BP, and what advice they might have for anyone that potentially wants to pursue writing as a creative endeavor. Episode 230: FFF Goes To The Movies

Over at the BP website, there's a lot of movie based content already in existence and with more coming. Mike, Jon, and Samuel decided it'd be fun to do a show all about baseball movies. Well, Samuel did and the hosts didn't complain so it worked out just fine. They put movies into three categories, not unlike fantasy baseball players. See the tie in? Anyway it's a fun show with a lot of opinions including one classic baseball movie getting savaged in the "Movie to Avoid" tier.
