When a British businessman, Neil Heywood, is found dead in a hotel room in China’s megacity Chongqing, a series of events began that set in motion political change that would influence the next decade in Chinese politics. A flamboyant politician, Bo Xilai’s wife, Gu Kailai, was tried for the murder of Neil Heywood, but was she framed by her husband’s political enemies in an attempt to keep him from becoming a member of the uber-powerful nine-person Politburo Standing Committee?
