S2 Ep38: Unsolved Murder of Sister Cathy [Memories] Part 1

By Shane Waters, Wendy Cee

Shane and Gemma sit down with Ellen Lacter, Ph.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist to discuss extreme abuse and how it can impact victim-survivors and their memories. Joining us on this multiple part episode discussion is Jean Wehner, also known as Jane Doe during the mid-90s lawsuit.

Dr. Ellen Lacter is an activist against extreme abuse and a lot of therapists come to her for help, information, and guidance. She is trying to help therapists, the public, and law enforcement to understand and fight against extreme abuse. This conversation is about the different levels of abuse, with extreme abuse being the most severe.

Dr. Lacter explains that extreme abuse can include torture, networked abuse, and very calculated abuse. She also discusses how therapists can become more knowledgeable about dissociative disorders and extreme abuse. The definition of extreme abuse includes any deliberate attempt to manipulate the mind of a victim so that they do not remember what happened, or to prevent them from ever telling anyone. This might include torture, threats, or using murder victims as an example of what could happen if the victim speaks out. Ritual abuse is a type of extreme abuse that often involves satanic worship.
