Why "Hire Slow Fire Fast" is BAD Advice

Why "Hire Slow Fire Fast" is BAD Advice

By Nick James

In this episode, Nick challenges the traditional convention in business - hire slow and fire fast

He explains why if as a business you are rapidly growing following this concept may limit your growth and shares great advice on the best ways to approach hiring and firing to make sure you get the best people for your business

Slowing down the hiring process can mean you can’t get the growth you want The more senior the role the slower the process should be Getting someone into a highly critical leadership role should take more time With more junior roles the speed of the process should be relative to the role Individuals may need more training, mentoring and time in the role to fulfil it successfully Fire fast is appropriate when an individual is completely out of alignment with the company’s core values If someone has the potential it can be worth mentoring to help people realise their potential

‘We were losing out on good candidates because the process was so slow’

‘Mentoring can help people realise their potential’

‘When you are rapidly growing you can’t hire slow’

Nick dropped out of university at the age of 21 and failed spectacularly with his first coaching business, which forced him to take a £16k/yr telesales job.

Within 12 months he was the top performer and left to start his second business at 24. This time he discovered a winning formula and before long had a multi-six-figure company.

He then made a huge mistake which nearly put him out of business and cost him £50,000 in personal cash!

Fortunately, Nick kept it afloat, turned it around, and sold that business 2 years later in a seven-figure deal.

He then co-founded a multi-million-pound marketing company, which he exited in 2015, and created Expert Empires.

Today, Expert Empires is known as the UK's number one business event for Experts, with world-renowned celebrity speakers like Gary Vaynerchuk, Grant Cardone, Chalene Johnson, David Goggins, and Lewis Howes gracing the stage.

Nick also specialises in helping Coaches, Consultants, Speakers, Trainers, and Authors take their businesses from zero to six figures and beyond through his Expert Empires Mastermind programme.
