Donald Trump indictment: A help or hindrance for his 2024 ambitions?

Donald Trump is the first former US president in history to face criminal charges. The charges stem from an alleged $130,000 (£105,000) hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign for the White House.

Mr Trump still wants to be the Republican nomination in next year's presidential election.

One survey has suggested the majority of Republicans think he should still be allowed to run again – regardless of the case against him. So why does he remain such a champion for them?
