The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign

The State of the 2024 Presidential Campaign

By Radio America

Election Day 2024 is more than 16 months away, but the first Republican debate is less than two months away and voters in the first primary and caucus states will be casting their ballots in just a few months. Today, Jim and Greg examine the state of the campaign in three different ways.

First, they look at the Democratic primary. While President Biden has a commanding lead over Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson, the enthusiasm - even among Democrats - is very low for another four years of Biden. Will the Democrats stick with Biden regardless of his approval numbers and mounting evidence of physical and mental decline?

Then they pivot to the Republican primary, where former President Trump has opened a big lead over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both nationally and increasingly in the states. Is the GOP base loyalty towards Trump locked in and virtually irreversible or is there an avenue for DeSantis or anyone else to close the gap.

Finally, they preview a likely Biden-Trump rematch and consider how much the electorate has changed in the past few years. Will Biden's poor performance be enough of a boost for Trump or will Trump's focus on 2020 and his legal challenges lead to another four years for Biden?
