39: Homophobia And Me

Before I even knew I was gay I experienced homophobia. Both within myself (internalised homophobia) and from the outside world. Todays solo podcast episode is a journey through my own personal experiences of what it’s like being a gay woman who came out at 30, over two decades ago. I’m sharing my story of denying and repressing my sexuality for a very long time and the struggles I had to accept that I was gay, as well as some of the homophobia I&aposve experienced against me. My hope is that this episode will help anyone who is struggling with their sexuality right now to know that you are not alone and that even though it can be a frightening, isolating and confusing journey it is absolutely 100% possible for you to feel proud of who you are and love and accept all of who you are. I promise that every one of you listening is as worthy, as loveable and as deserving as everyone else in this world. If you’re questioning your sexuality, struggling with coming out or fully loving and accepting all of your amazing, beautiful self then I am always here for you. 38: How To Uplevel Your LGBTQ+ Allyship

This weeks podcast episode is a solo one from me about a topic that I’m extremely passionate about! Those of you who have been listening to the podcast from the beginning may remember that I’ve spoken about allies and allyship before in Episode 2 when I talk about the top 10 things you can do to be a great ally.Today I am taking LGBTQ+ allyship to whole different level! The way I like to look at allyship is as though it’s a journey, a spectrum that’s broken down into 3 steps with each step building on the next:The New Ally – New allies want to learn more about the issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community and they want to get comfortable with speaking up and standing for LGBTQ+ people. They’re supportive but not always sure what to do or how to do it.The Everyday Ally – Everyday allies have learned a lot about LGBTQ+ challenges and struggles. They take action when they hear or see something inappropriate or discriminatory. They’re also committed to continuing to learn and seek out opportunities to be a more effective ally and support their LGBTQ+ friends, family, clients and communities. The Super Ally – Super Allies are powerful advocates for change. They find ways to support LGBTQ+ organisations, be an active part of creating change socially, personally and sometimes politically too. They don’t shy away from debate and they uplift queer voices.Listen in to learn about my  top three actions for you whichever level of allyship you are currently at and to hear my reflections on the reasons why allyship is more important now than ever before.DOWNLOAD MY NEW FREEBIE: LGBTQ+ INCLUSION CHECKLISTRESOURCES & LINKS FROM THIS EPISODE:FREE LGBTQ+ Inclusion Guide: https://thequeerpreneur.lpages.co/lgbtq-inclusion-guide/Stonewall: https://www.stonewall.org.uk/ILGA: https://www.ilga-europe.org/Mermaids: https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/Human Rights Campaign: https://www.hrc.org/Alok V Menon (Beyond The Gender Binary): https://www.alokvmenon.com/aboutFrom Prejudice To Pride: https://www.waterstones.com/book/from-prejudice-to-pride-a-history-of-lgbtq-movement/amy-lame/9781526301918SAY HI & GET IN TOUCH WITH ME:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoachClubhouse: @sarah.taylorVisit my website: https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/Email me:  sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com

The Queer Wellbeing Sessions have been one of my highlights during 2020. It’s been such an honour to dedicate Friday nights to our collective wellbeing and hold space for the queer community and our wonderful allies. Each week I’ve had a different wellness or coaching professional join me to share their insights, wisdom and powerful tips and guidance for how we can support ourselves on our individual healing journey.Last week my guest was Amanda Ashy a holistic nutritionist and mindfulness expert. Amanda shares how she went from working in television as a media producer and director where she was leading a very unhealthy lifestyle working 70-hour weeks and living off coffee and fast food to deciding to follow her passion for nutrition. She trained to become a clinical nutritionist and mindfulness expert and now specialises in supporting families and children with their wellbeing. Hear all about what Amanda calls the Pillars Of Wellness and learn how to reduce stress and increase your wellbeing with some simple daily lifestyle changes. This is such a valuable and important episode, I know you will take so much from it.Links from the show:Contact Amanda: https://www.amandaashyboyd.com/Amanda on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amanda_ashy/Watch the live video recording on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CIq4KGVFoqy/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_linkSay hi to me on social:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/Visit my website: https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/Email me: sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com

27: We Must Do Better - LGBTQ+ Inclusion In Wellness & Coaching

How inclusive is the wellness and coaching industry for LGBTQ+ people? How does being LGBTQ+ and working in wellness or coaching impact us?Do we feel included and equal in our professional industries and in our wellness and coaching networks and communities?Approximately 6% of the UK population is LGBTQ+*. There are circa 1 million people working in the wellness and coaching industries in the UK and yet when you look around there is very little visibility of LGBTQ+ wellness and coaching professionals. With LGBTQ+ people suffering with higher levels of mental health struggles, suicidal distress and poor access to mainstream healthcare, wellness and coaching services are needed now more than ever. And yet often LGBTQ+ people don’t feel safe to reach out for the support they so desperately need. They fear discrimination, prejudice and lack of understanding. And so my friends, I’ve decided to dig into this issue and find out more about if and how it&aposs impacting both wellness and coaching professionals and those LGBTQ+ people who desperately need support with their wellbeing, happiness and fulfilment in their lives.I want to hear from you, if you’re a lesbian, gay, bi or queer wellness or coaching professional. If you’re up for getting involved I&aposve created a short survey. It should take you about 10 mins to complete and for everyone who submits a survey response I’m offering you a free laser coaching session with me or a discounted place on my Flagship online personal development programme, Living Her Truth starting again in Jan 2021. And of course the biggest prize of all, the opportunity to be part of a movement to create greater LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion in the wellness and coaching professions. Here&aposs the link to the survey: https://sarah-taylor.typeform.com/to/ET29bHCW*With many LGBTQ+ people feeling unsafe to be out these figures are likely to be higher than reported.Get in touch with me:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/Youtube: Youtube channelVisit my website: https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/Email me: sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com

24: On Coming Out At Work

I&aposm sharing research highlights, insights and personal experiences of being LGBTQ+ in the workplace, plus first-hand experiences of some of my wonderful clients and business buddies and why being out at work is never an easy decision to make. Let me make it very clear, this episode is not a "why I think you should be out at work" message. Even though there are many benefits of feeling comfortable and safe to be out at work (which I talk about in other Queerpreneur podcast episodes and interviews) it&aposs always a choice and very personal to each of us. If you&aposre wondering whether to come out at work my hope is that listening to the experiences of myself and other LGBTQ+ people will help you explore this and get clear on the approach you want to take. I also give you a few ideas that will help you decide what&aposs right for you when it comes to coming out at work. Here&aposs a little preview:You get to choose, don&apost feel pressured by other people.Keep working on your self-acceptance and self-love (if you&aposve not listened to my previous podcast episode 20: Healing the Shame Of Being Gay you may want to give it a listen)Reach out for support from someone who understands and who you feel safe with. This can be a member of your staff network group or an external LGBTQ+ organisation.Remember and know that you are as natural and worthy and valid and equal as everyone else.I’d love to hear about your coming out at work experiences or why you’ve decided not to be out at work – or if you want to chat your thoughts and feelings through with someone who gets it, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me @sarahtaylorcoaching on Instagram or facebook or email me at sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com. 23: The Power of Owning Your Niche (Especially When It's LGBTQ+ Wellbeing) With George Goldsmith-Cottrell

I&aposm in conversation with George Goldsmith-Cottrell (she/her) a personal trainer and online fitness coach where we talk about why we’ve chosen to work specifically with LGBTQ+ people and how that’s enabled us to support more of our dreamboat clients. We talk about the increasing mental health struggles in the LGBTQ+ community including the impact of COVID-19. George shares her own journey from struggling with anxiety and depression and crying at her desk in her soul-destroying 9-5 to discovering her passion for fitness, transforming her own mental health and creating a successful personal training and coaching business she absolutely loves. We explore the benefits of niching and the powerful impact on your clients and community when you’re authentic and open about your own personal story. And we also give you our perspective on why you’ve got to invest in the business side of your business – from having biz buddies who get what it’s like to be an entrepreneur (because let’s face it not everyone gets it!) to continually learning about marketing, strategy, pricing, scaling and all the powerful mindset stuff. We cover a lot in this episode! 22: Straight Privilege, Yes It Does Exist

Simply put straight privilege is a bunch of unearned benefits that heterosexual people get that people with other sexualities don’t get. Straight Privilege is a topic I’ve wanted to talk about for a while. The inequality that exists for LGBTQ+ people that often people don’t see or fully appreciate. And I’m not talking solely about straight, heterosexual people here either. I think that sometimes as gay, bi, trans and queer people we may not fully see the inequality and discrimination that exists against us it’s so ingrained in our societal, cultural and religious structures. If you’re LGBTQ+ and listening to this I urge you to look at what you are accepting because of your sexuality or because of your gender identity. Are you accepting less than? Are you accepting being thought of as not having an equally meaningful and important relationship with your same sex partner for example, or that you’re not accurately represented in tv, films, media, marketing and advertising? When you start to become fully aware of these things that maybe you accepted for a long time (consciously or subconsciously) you can start to connect with the real impact and potential correlation with your feelings of less than, unworthiness and ‘not as valued or seen as straight people….I’d love to know if this resonates with you so as always drop me a DM @sarahtaylorcoaching on Instagram or facebook or email me at sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com with any thoughts.Straight privilege reinforces the differences between heterosexual and other sexualities and the fact that straight is seen as superior in some way. And just as so many of us learned from the recent amplification of the black lives matter movement, when you are straight it’s so easy not to see your privilege. You don’t think about it because well, why would you. You are benefiting from it. I want to make it clear that my intention here is to give you some food for thought, to give you an idea of the unearned benefits you have that LGBTQ+ people don’t. So that you can consider them. So that you can deepen your understanding and build closer connections and community between LGBTQ+ people and our straight allies. Together we can really make a difference, in our daily interactions, being curious about why things are the way they are if they disadvantage people from minority groups and standing for equality by the choices we make and the conversations we have. Links from the show:Resource page on my website: https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/resourcesSay hi to me on social:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/

21: HELP! I'm Questioning My Sexuality

Something I speak to a lot of women about is questioning or exploring their sexuality. That time when you&aposre working out whether you are are gay or bi or pan or something else that isn’t straight. In this podcast episode I talk about what it feels like to be questioning and how you can get comfortable and clear about where you&aposre at with your sexuality at any given time. And this is so important because I talk to women who are stuck in this questioning phase and trying to work it out and feeling anxious and uncertain and it’s really holding them back and taking up a lot of their precious headspace and energy. I share my own experience of when I was questioning my sexuality and I give you 4 actions you can take to help you navigate these thoughts and feelings in a way that feels empowered instead of stress and anxiety provoking. What I don&apost do in this podcast episode is tell you what your sexuality is or tell you that you must come out, or tell someone, or experiment with your sexuality. These are all things you might decide for yourself but I’m not the one to tell you what you should do. What I will do is give you some powerful food for thought as to how you can support yourself to understand the truth about what your sexuality is and to feel good about who you are and who you love. And do let me know what you thought of this episode by messaging me over on instagram, facebook or linked in - or you can email me, I&aposd love to hear from you! 20: Healing The Shame Of Being Gay (Internalised Homophobia)

Boy oh boy this is a big topic and one that has been a big part of my own personal development journey as well as the work I do with my clients. In this episode I highlight some of the main reasons LGBTQ+ people feel shame, discomfort or embarrassment about their sexual orientation. And especially if this is you, I&aposm sharing four practices, tools and techniques that will help you heal and recover from this shame you&aposve probably been carrying around with you for a very long time! I dig into two of the key theories that are talked about and commonly cited by researchers, therapists and academics - compulsory heterosexuality and internalised homophobia and how these have shaped my life and influenced how I feel about being gay. Here&aposs a quick snap-shot of the four healing practices I share with you in this episode:Acknowledge and accept that you feel shame, hurt or discomfort about being gay - we can&apost change what we cannot see.Connect with other LGBTQ+ people - share stories, hear about others experiences and get support from each other.Explore and enjoy LGBTQ+ arts and culture - you are part of this incredible creative and wonderful culture. Remember that gay, bi and queer love is as natural and worthy and valid and equal as all other love. And do let me know what you thought of this episode by messaging me over on instagram, facebook or linked in - or you can email me, I&aposd love to hear from you! 19: Starting A Business In Midlife With Deb Pasley

I&aposm talking to Deb Pasley, co-founder of the Midlife Hub, which brings together trusted services, therapists, events and experiences all aimed at making midlife a positive and empowering time of our lives. Like me, Deb left behind a very successful corporate career to do something more meaningful and make a bigger impact in the world. We talk about the benefits of having a corporate background (even though the desire is often to "leave it all behind" because you&aposre so glad to be free of it!) Deb shares her story of how she and Rosi (her business partner) developed their passion into a business idea and a successful enterprise to help people struggling with all that midlife brings from menopause and a renewed focus on wellbeing to career change or deciding that you want to do something entirely different with your life! The associations with midlife are often negative - The Midlife Hub is all about changing that common perception. We discuss the challenges and lessons along the way of building a robust business case strategy and plan, testing your ideas with your client market, overcoming perfectionism and how much there really is to learn when you move from a corporate career to running your own business! So many pearls of wisdom and lessons to share in this episode and if you&aposre a woman in midlife thinking about starting a business - do it, do it, do it!_________________________________________________Links from the show: Brene Brown https://brenebrown.com/ Simon Sinek https://simonsinek.com/Chris Do https://thefutur.com/team/chris-doFind out more about the Midlife Hub: Website https://themidlifehub.com/about-the-midlife-hub/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/themidlifehub/Facebook https://www.facebook.com/themidlifehubLinkedin https://www.linkedin.com/company/themidlifehub/_________________________________________________Say hi to me on social:Facebook https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyg_uY9vxRjlvsANw-iUjvQ?view_as=subscriberVisit my website https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/Email me sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com

18: 5 Powerful Actions To Ditch Imposter Syndrome

"I have written 11 books, but each time I think, &aposUh oh, they&aposre going to find out now. I&aposve run a game on everybody, and they&aposre going to find me out.&apos" - Maya Angelou. Now I know that you are struggling with imposter syndrome or you have in the past because, well, we all do...including Michelle Obama, Robbie Williams and Maya Angelou! If you&aposve ever struggled with perfectionism, lack of confidence, feeling like a fraud, self-doubt or negative self-talk then you&aposve experienced imposter syndrome. The good news is that I can help you manage and overcome imposter syndrome with five powerful action steps you can start taking straight away today. A lot of people have written and spoken about imposter syndrome because it is so prevalent! The Harvard Business Review defines imposter syndrome as "a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. Imposters suffer from chronic self-doubt and a sense of intellectual fraudulence that override any feelings of success or external proof of their competence."Here&aposs a quick snap-shot of the five action steps I share with you in this episode:If you&aposre feeling it you&aposre learning and growing - it&aposs not necessarily all bad!Connect with your heart-led purpose - it ALWAYS trumps self-doubt and negative self-talk!Check-in with what is really true - are these feelings true or are they old outdated beliefs that no longer serve you?Take action - move out of the stuck, paralysed, holding yourself back place.Acknowledge your success and celebrate it - recognise how brilliant you are!And do let me know what you thought of this episode by messaging me over on instagram, facebook or linked in - or you can email me, I&aposd love to hear from you!Say hi to me on social:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/ Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyg_uY9vxRjlvsANw-iUjvQ?view_as=subscriberVisit my website: https://sarah-taylor.co.uk/ Email me: sarahtaylorcoaching@gmail.com

17: Living My Truth As A Trans Woman With Katie Neeves (Part 2)

Part 2 of my interview with trans ambassador, public speaker, trainer, photographer and film-maker Katie Neeves. We dispel untrue arguments against the transgender cause, explain the problematic and political challenges surrounding the Gender Recognition Act and talk about how to be a better ally. We also hear from Katie how she found her mission of helping everyone to understand that trans people are just ordinary people who want to be safe, loved and happy, just like everyone else. This is a powerful episode that explores some difficult topics - Katie shares with us not only why trans rights, discrimination and prejudice needs to be better understood by everyone (including our politicians) but also what we can all do to make a positive difference right now and support the urgent change that needs to happen.Trigger warning: Please be aware that we talk about self-harm and attempted suicide on two occasions at approx 10 and 15 minutes into the episode.Links from the show: Katie&aposs letter to MP blog post and email template: https://cool2btrans.co.uk/i-just-wrote-a-little-letter-to-my-mp/ Mermaids: https://mermaidsuk.org.uk/ Contact Katie: Cool2BTrans Website: www.cool2btrans.co.uk Facebook:www.facebook.com/cool2btrans Twitter:@cool2btrans Instagram: cool2btrans YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/Cool2BTrans LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-neeves-trans-ambassador-43626814/ Martin Neeves Photography & Film Website: www.martinneeves.com  Like my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sarahtaylorlifecoach/ Say hi to me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sarahtaylorcoaching/  Connect with me on Linkedin https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarah-taylor-coaching/

16: Living My Truth As A Trans Woman With Katie Neeves (Part 1)

"The urge to live my truth was unbelievably strong." In this weeks episode I&aposm talking with Katie Neeves a trans ambassador, trainer, public speaker, professional photographer and filmmaker. She owns two businesses, Cool2BTrans and Martin Neeves Photography & Film. She&aposs been commissioned to photograph the queen and has been a press photographer at some incredibly historic moments! In this first part of her interview she shares her story of growing up with gender dysphoria, cross-dressing, being married twice, building an extremely successful business, having a daughter and then working with a spiritual healer where she finally admitted to herself at age 47 that she was a trans woman. Katie talks openly about how telling her wife, after being married for less than a year, was one of the hardest things she&aposs ever had to do, why she decided to keep her business name Martin Neeves Photography & Film and the reaction she got when she decided to come out professionally in a very public way! 15: How To Find Your Purpose

"I believe there&aposs a calling for all of us. I know that every human being has value and purpose. The real work of our lives is to become aware. And awakened. To answer the call." Oprah Winfrey. I agree with Oprah on this one. To be fair, I usually agree with Oprah! Let&aposs start with a caveat, finding your Purpose is not something a single podcast episode is going to sort out for you! But I guess you already knew that! What I can do is to support and guide you to get clearer on your big Why or your Purpose or mission. That thing you are here to do that not only inspires you but also makes a difference in the world. It leaves a legacy. Because when we have an exciting and inspiring Purpose it means we have direction. We have meaning. We feel fulfillment not only when we get there but on the way because we know we are heading towards something that really matters and is going to make a difference. It also means that when we doubt ourselves or feel not enough, or afraid, or like we want to jack it all in, we have something bigger than us to remind us why we are here, doing what we are doing, every single day. 14: How To Stop Fearing Other People's Judgement

Fear of what other people will think of us is something that comes up ALL the time in my work with my clients and with myself! In this episode I’m sharing some mindset tips to help you respond to other people’s judgement and opinion in a way that feels empowering instead of limiting and anxiety provoking. I share some approaches that will enable you to create healthy relationships with criticism and praise. In a way that doesn’t make them something to be afraid of. Because when what other people think of us influences our decisions and our actions it can really get in the way of us being all we can be, going for our dreams and getting our big ideas out into the world. If you struggle with people pleasing, imposter syndrome and holding yourself back from being truly seen and heard, then grab a notebook and pen and let&aposs dive into this one! As always I love to get your feedback so don&apost hesitate to send me a message and let me know how you get on with practicing these mindset strategies and reframing those old, unhelpful beliefs. 13: Coming Out In the '90's With Ruth Summers

For many people being LGBTQ+ in the 90&aposs was a very lonely and scary experience. There were few role models or out gay, bi or queer people visible in the media and the anti-homosexuality government act, Section 28 was still in force in the UK. Decades later some things are changing for the better, however sadly there is still much more work to do to end the discrimination and prejudice that exists against LGBTQ+ people all over the world. My guest in this episode is Ruth Summers, a wellbeing entrepreneur, sound therapist and tutor at the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST). Like me, Ruth realised she was gay in the 90&aposs. We talk about how our families responded to the news and our early experiences of being gay in a world where there really wasn&apost any representation of gay women that we could relate to (something that’s definitely changing today). We also talk about being out and gay in the workplace and how coming out never really ends with every new person we meet!*I am really honoured and excited to announce that Ruth will be delivering the Crystal Sound Meditation at the Opening ceremony for my brand-new Personal Development Programme Living Her Truth, which opens for enrolment next week. 11: Truth & Lies About Bisexuality With Isla McLachlan

Get ready for an honest, vulnerable and passionate conversation (f-bomb warning). I&aposm talking with fellow coach and bisexual woman, Isla McLachlan about bi-erasure, discrimination and prejudice. It&aposs time to dispel some myths, challenge the stereotypes and kick the harmful misconceptions about bisexuals, outta the park! We also talk about bisexuality and how it relates to pansexual and fluid sexualities. Our conversation takes plenty of interesting twists and turns. It&aposs very relatable to gay women and other LGBTQ+ sexualities and gender identities too. We explore what it&aposs like to feel as though you&aposre not gay enough for the queer community and not straight enough for the straight community, being a femme bisexual or lesbian, how the fear of discrimination has held us back and what it&aposs like being on the receiving end of biphobia and homophobia. I really think you&aposre going to find this one relatable, whether you&aposre bi, gay, lesbian, queer or questioning. 10: Why Pride Matters So F'ing Much

This is an emotional one people! 2020 is one hell of a year and one of the biggest things it&aposs reinforcing for me is that we have to stand together in the fight against discrimination, prejudice and injustice. This episode has been created at a time when not only are we dealing with a global pandemic but we are protesting all around the world in response to the murder of George Floyd and many other black people in the USA. I stand in full support of the Black Lives Matter movement and I&aposm committed to ensuring my business is inclusive and I support and collaborate with more black owned businesses. I have anti-racism work to do...of that I am acutely aware. In this episode I talk about what Pride is and what it definitely is not and why it matters more now than ever that we continue to march and we continue to celebrate and we continue to fight for equality and freedom. I&aposd love to hear your Pride stories and anything else you want to share with me about the subjects I&aposm touching on.
