Can You Be Overweight And Healthy?

According to Jillian Michaels, no. You can't be overweight and healthy. But that's BS. You cannot perceive someone's level of health by looking at them. Technically, I'm overweight. And I'm ridiculously healthy.  I need to talk to you about how this collective idea that you can't be bigger and healthy (or really, bigger and accepted, beautiful, and worthy of anyone including your own love) is killing us and making us sick. Because it's all BS.

Let's Talk Post-Race Blues and Taking Time Off

We’ve talked about it before and we’ll talk about it again. THE DREADED PAUSE. Post-race blues are a real thing. It can be hard to adjust to life without the structure a goal race brings. In my early years of running, rest days were a nightmare. I felt guilty taking time off because I was terrified I’d gain weight. I wanted to go non-stop because I didn’t think I was ready to work through everything I was running so hard from. The hardest part about dealing with the post-race blues is having to really work through what you're running from or towards. But it's in that unfocused, "lost", pause that growth happens. Today, I want to talk about all the fears we have from losing fitness and gaining weight, to feeling like you need to fix that sadness you're experiencing.  Let's talk about why it's important to find balance during the post-race blues.

Why I Kept Running: The Badass Lady Gang and I Share How We Became Runners

There is an infinite number of articles online offering tips and tricks to go for that first run. They’re great. READ THEM! But you don’t need to know what you’re doing or have special shoes or gear to become a runner. If you’re looking for a plan, check out my guided runs. I have 8 weeks of podcast episodes that will guide and distract you through those first two months of running. (You can download my free 8K Become A Runner Plan Here) The hardest part about becoming a runner isn’t that first run. It’s sticking with it. I asked the Badass Lady Gang what clicked for them. What was the reason they didn’t give up after their first few runs? Why Did You Keep Running? Their stories are inspiring as hell! If you’re looking to become a runner but are afraid you’ll quit or won’t be able to stick with it, read their stories to both be inspired and reminded that you aren’t alone with your fears and anxieties. Then lace up whatever shoes you have and see what happens. TODAY IS ALWAYS THE DAY.  Today is all about talking about why I kept running.

Controlling And Abusing Women Isn't A Women's Running Issue

This morning, Mary Cain bravely came forward about the abuse she experienced training with Nike Oregon Project. Do yourself a favor and both READ and WATCH her story. This goes so, so much further than running and it’s really making me scratch my head why so many people in the running world are making this out to be a women’s running or track and field issue. Mary’s story is such an important one because it's about predatory behavior and how we allow it to persist, dominate, and continue. I have so many friends who were abused and weighed publicly and none of them are runners. This conversation is an important one because change has to happen and we’re robbing ourselves by labeling this a “women’s running” issue.

Fueling 101- I Got A Metabolic Efficiency Test

Everyone knows about counting calories because as women, we're raised to strive to reach for an unattainable body type. So many have starved themselves, binged, or felt unworthy in the skin they were in. When you hear the word diet, we don't think about all the food that we put into our body to fuel it...which is what a diet is. Instead, we think about all the things we restrict ourselves with or what we shouldn't eat.  Getting a metabolic efficiency test was EYE OPENING. We were able to pinpoint where I'm most efficient as a runner and how I can train to run even more efficiently. I learned about why it's important to pay attention to the ratios of protein, fiber and fat in every meal and how to fuel my body so that I can run my personal best.   Anyone who has ever given everything towards a goal knows how huge of a sacrifice it is. Last year, I struggled with muscle cramps both during training and during the NYC Marathon. My coach Rebeka Stowe and physical therapist Michael Conlon both suggested I get a sweat test so that I can see exactly how much salt I and sweat I lose on the run to get precise about my fueling. Luckily, at Finish Line Physical Therapy, you can get both an Advanced Salt Test and a Metabolic Efficiency Test.     What is an advanced sweat test and a metabolic efficiency test?  An advanced sweat test is two-fold: First, Nicci tests the concentration of sodium you lose in your sweat. Turns out, it's genetically determined and varies greatly from one person to the next. (Turns out I'm a below average salty sweater but a really, really heavy sweater.) Then, she had me weigh myself before and after a run to figure out my sweat rate. Then, that number combined with my specific concentration of sodium lost yield an exact fueling strategy for my runs!   A metabolic efficiency test is ideal to help you determine if your current nutritional strategies are helping or hurting your performance.  You will find out how your body utilizes fats and carbohydrates as fuel and learn how many calories you really need for your next race.     For more info, check out Nicci's website http://elevatebynicci.com/or pop into to Finish Line Physical Therapy (http://FinishLinePT.com) to learn more.   To support the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, become a patron of my Patreon page! Week 8 Run 2: RUN YOUR 5K Guided Runs

Enjoying my guided runs? Support the podcast by becoming a Patron of my Patreon page! LEARN MORE Welcome to Week // 8 Run 2 of my new guided runs. TODAY’S WORKOUT: RUN A 5K! My name is Kelly Roberts and for most of my life, I was the self-proclaimed president of the "I f*cking hate running club". I’m not athletic. I spent most of my life trying to find ways to avoid running. The only reason I ever found motivation to get to a gym was to obsessively work to try to lose weight. Then I found myself just desperate enough to become a runner. My life was in a pause. I was drowning in grief after the death of my little brother and struggling to love the skin I was in. I’d just completed a weight loss journey and successfully lost the 75+ pounds I gained after he passed away. But suddenly, I felt numb and out of control. I didn’t see the strength I worked so hard to build. Running was so difficult and painful that I didn’t have time to feel sorry for myself. It took every single ounce of me to put one foot in front of the other. Simply put, becoming a runner saved my life. If you're looking for a new challenge or for a way to get active that won't make you hate yourself, spend the next 8 weeks with me. Run a 5K! It's not going to be easy and yes, it's going to hurt like hell but want to know what hurts more? Quitting. The only way you fail is if you fail to try! My new guided runs are will be available wherever you get your podcasts and each one will follow my free 8-week training plan, “Become a runner in 8 weeks”. Give it a download and then press play. You ready!?   DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE RUN, SELFIE, REPEAT PODCAST ON ITUNES,GOOGLE PLAY, AND SPOTIFY AND, IF YOU'RE FEELING EXTRA INCREDIBLE AND AMAZING, I WOULD APPRECIATE YOU FOREVER IF YOU COULD LEAVE ME A 5-STAR RATING AND REVIEW ON ITUNES. And tell your friends! If you know someone who is looking to start running but doesn’t know where to start, challenge them to give this a try.

Enjoying my guided runs? CLICK HERE to learn how you can support this podcast by becoming a Patron of my Patreon page! Welcome to Week // 8 Run 1 of my new guided runs. TODAY’S WORKOUT: 20 MINUTES RUNNING My name is Kelly Roberts and for most of my life, I was the self-proclaimed president of the "I f*cking hate running club".

Then I found myself just desperate enough to become a runner. My life was in a pause. I was drowning in grief after the death of my little brother and struggling to love the skin I was in. I’d just completed a two weight loss journey and successfully lost the 75+ pounds I gained after he passed away. My new guided runs are available wherever you get your podcasts and each one will follow my free 8-week training plan, “Become a runner in 8 weeks”. Give it a download and then press play.  You ready!?   DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE RUN, SELFIE, REPEAT PODCAST ON ITUNES, GOOGLE PLAY, AND SPOTIFY AND, IF YOU'RE FEELING EXTRA INCREDIBLE AND AMAZING, I WOULD APPRECIATE YOU FOREVER IF YOU COULD LEAVE ME A 5-STAR RATING AND REVIEW ON ITUNES. And tell your friends! If you know someone who is looking to start running but doesn’t know where to start, challenge them to give this a try.

Ep. 144: Don't Let "Realistic" Goals Stop You From Dreaming

One of the emails I get ALL THE TIME goes a little something like this, "I really want to run (insert time or distance goal) this year but I don't think it's (insert "realistic", "doable", or "in the cards for me"). I'm only a (insert self-limiting adjectives here) and I just don't know if it's worth my time." OR this one, "I really want to break 2 hours in the half but I've tried a few times and always finished seconds short. I'm heartbroken and now I'm running so much slower than I was a few months ago. I don't know what to do." Something like that. It doesn't matter if you aren't athletic and are thinking about running your first 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon or if you're chasing a seemingly impossible time or distance goal, NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU'RE CAPABLE OF. Not you. Not me.  And the way I see it, any goal is a realistic goal if you're ready to work for it. Maybe it'll take years to make happen. Maybe it'll take months. Just don't let "realistic" stop you from chasing your dream goal.

Ep 142: What Happened During the NYC Marathon

I went into the NYC Marathon ready for my comeback. After injuries and heartbreaks, I was ready for the race I deserved. And I got it...it just wasn't the race I thought I was going to have. This marathon was a forced pause. A chance to reflect and force myself to acknowledge the community we've built and how far I've come. And most importantly, it helped me remember why I run and why I started running. Grief. Loss. Heartbreak. A fear of failure. The list goes on and on.... It's hard to describe just how much running has changed my life but this year's NYC Marathon was a giant reminder of what's truly important: Never giving up on impossible.  There's only one thing harder than changing the way you see yourself, and that's living with an inner critic that says that you aren't worth fighting for. And it's only because I started running that I now believe that I'm fighting for.  This episode is nostalgic one but without any further ado, let's talk about what went down during the 2018 NYC Marathon.  *NYC Marathon Vlog: https://youtu.be/If5jESIYsX0

Ep 141: Let's Talk Title IX With Casey Snedecor

Title IX! The landmark federal civil rights law that requires gender equality in all aspects of publicly-funded education. Today I'm talking with my best lady pal Casey Snedecor, the Assistant Director of Athletics/Director of Media Relations at LIU Brooklyn. We're talking life before Title IX, why we all should care about it, and its future (like what Betsy Devos has done to overhaul Title IX and narrow the definition of sexual harassment). Ep 140: Final Session With Sports Psychologist Dr. Bob

Two and a half years ago, when I started chasing my impossible goal to try to run a Boston Marathon qualifying time, my Uncle and sports psychologist Dr. Bob Corb told me that he'd be happy to help me make it happen. I completely underestimated the power of a sports psychologist. Ultimately, Dr. Bob changed my life. From helping me build self-efficacy to how I talk to and about myself and what I'm capable of, the tools he's given me have made me a stronger and more resilient person in every single aspect of my life. Here is my final check in with Dr. Bob the day before I ran the New York City Marathon.

Ep 139: F&ck Perfect Do What You're Bad At

PERFECTIONISM. Before I became a runner, it was the thing that stopped me from trying anything that I didn’t think I was good at. From my destructive inner dialogue that made me feel insecure whenever I made a mistake to convincing myself that people judged me just as much as I judged myself, I was terrified of everything that I wasn’t innately good at. Let’s talk about why it’s not only important to do the things you’re bad at but why it’s ok to feel insecure, just as long as you celebrate yourself for showing up and giving your best effort.
19/11/1822m 22s

Ep 138: Why Running Will Change Your Life

I truly believe I was just desperate enough to become a runner. I was drowning in grief, lonely, dejected, and didn’t know what to do with my life. But to my total and complete astonishment, running showed me that I wasn’t just afraid of failing, I wouldn’t apply myself if I knew I couldn’t do something perfectly. Today, I want to talk about what I wish I would have known when I first started running. That there’s no such thing as the right time to get started. Or that it doesn’t matter if something feels impossible, the only way you’ll fail is if you fail to try. As long as you want it and you’re willing to work patiently day after day after day, anything is possible.
16/11/1823m 52s

Ep 137: It's Not About The Time

Goal times and distances keep us motivated...until they don't. From understanding to importance between process goals and outcome goals to intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, let's talk about how we can make the most of the journey instead of losing ourselves in pursuit of a finishing time.
13/11/1818m 34s

Ep 136: Mirna Valerio on Why You Don't Need Permission To Be Seen

When it comes to women who are changing the way we think remarkable athletes should look like, Mirna Valerio comes to mind. In a world where six-pack abs and Boston Marathon qualifying times are what many believe define a strong runner, Mirna is a force of nature. From redefining what a strong athlete looks like to inspiring women and men to get active because of what it can do for your soul instead of chasing a number on a scale, just by being herself, Mirna is encouraging people who don’t look like stereotypical outdoorsmen and women or runners a reason to show up for themselves. Ep 135: Just Do It For You

The hardest part about chasing an impossible goal is the moment your impossible goal feels possible. LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR FEAR OF FAILURE AND BUCKLING UNDER THE PRESSURE!
12/10/1824m 57s

Ep 134: The Pre-Race Pep Talk

Going into your race, be it this week, today, tomorrow, whenever it is, I want you to focus on what you’ve done. Because all too often, we focus on the outcome goal-- the specific time we want to hit, in lieu of the process. The journey. So if you're drowning in pre-race anxiety, I have the pep talk for you. Let's pump you up and get you ready to race your heart out and give your personal best effort.
05/10/1822m 10s

Ep 133: First Marathon Pep Talk

Feeling nervous and/or terrified about running your first marathon? This is the pep talk for you! From how to manage your pre-race fear, nerves, and worst case scenarios to logistics like how to fuel, not bleed to death from chafing, and how to find your family during the race, I'm here to remind you that you're ready to kick ass and take names. YOU GOT THIS.
04/10/1822m 28s

Ep 132: Getting Started and Patiently Suffering

When it comes to getting started, suffering isn't an option. It's inevitable. But in those first few weeks, when everything feels infinitely harder than it should, attitude is everything. Let's talk about what it means to patiently endure while you practice making the decision not to suffer.
11/09/1816m 48s

Ep 131: Dealing With People Who Doubt You

Chasing goals that feel unattainable is hard enough without people in your life magnifying your doubts. If you're afraid of disappointing yourself or the people in your life by failing or falling short, this episode is for you. Let's talk about why it's important to chase your goals for all the right reasons.
16/08/1812m 34s

Ep 130: The Transformative Power of, "YES I CAN!"

I wish I would have known back when I first started running the empowering freedom that comes when you finally throw, "I can't do this" out the window and embrace, "YES I CAN". I STILL forget how transformative it is to assume success instead of bracing for failure. Today's episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast is all about that mental game and how we can get to a place where you truly believe you're capable of whatever goal you're chasing.
08/08/1818m 31s

Ep 129: Regardless Of What I Do, I'm Never Going To Succeed

Taking the first steps towards making an impossible goal possible can feel paralyzing. From getting active, making a healthy lifestyle change, losing weight, running your first half marathon or marathon, to running a terrifying time goal like breaking 2 in a half, when your goal is so huge that it feels impossible, if you don't have prior success to call on, it's hard not to expect failure. Let's talk about how to persevere and kick ass and take names when all signs point to failure.
13/07/1815m 19s

Ep 128: So You're Scared To Join the #SportsBraSquad

Shedding your shirt along with your insecurities and working out in your sports bra is TERRIFYING! What if a complete stranger, your neighbor, or a loved one confirms the horrible things you say to yourself when you look in the mirror? WELL, here's something I want you to focus on, WHAT YOU SAY TO YOURSELF. Because even if someone looks at you and judges you (screw them), there will be women and girls who see you and think, "I want her confidence". We can't redefine what strength looks like unless we show up.
15/06/1815m 5s

Ep 127: The Power of Global #SportsBraSquad Day

As women, so much of our worth is ascribed to how we look. We get judged on it. And the larger a woman is, the more likely she's going to be labeled as lazy, unhealthy, and whether or not you want to admit it, ugly. AND I CALL BULLSHIT. HEALTH ISN'T A LOOK, IT'S A LIFESTYLE.   Mark your calendars because on June 24th, women around the world are ditching their shirts along with their insecurities for Global #SportsBraSquad Day, a day dedicated to celebrating that strength comes in all shapes and sizes.
08/06/1826m 7s

Ep 126: Name 3 Things You Love About Yourself

In our self-love revolution, there's a lot of talk about reflection and taking time to feel grateful or celebrate every single win or success. Our badassery. We share and like memes and platitudes about being strong, driven, and bold but we don't really talk about taking time to define who we are, what we love about ourselves, and what our strengths are.  Today, I want to talk about our self-image and why it can be so incredibly helpful to take time to talk about what you love about yourself.
01/06/1816m 35s

Ep 125: It's Just Running

It's just running... I know, it's a triggering statement if you're consumed in a goal or struggling to see yourself as a runner. But today, I want to talk about the importance of stepping back and looking at the simplicity of it all. That we're just putting one foot in front of the other.
18/05/1814m 9s

Ep 124: The Guilty Joy In Loss

When it comes to my grief and loss, rumbling with the guilt I feel when I think about how grateful, joyful, happy, and full as I am today, nine years after my brother passed away, is possible. And it guts me to acknowledge it. It doesn't feel fair that I get to be happy or find purpose in my loss because I'd give anything to have my brother back. Today, I want to talk about the joy in loss, the guilt and pain in my joy, what that means, and why it took me so long to put words to it.
11/05/1816m 38s

Ep 123: BQ or Bust PLOT TWIST

I've been chasing my impossible goal for two years. Two years of doubts, setbacks, fears, pain, suffering, and life-changing accomplishments. BQ or Bust, my journey to qualify for the Boston Marathon, started as a stunt. Something to keep me busy. A new goal that I was certain I'd give up on two months in. Two years later, I'm still chasing my BQ.  I really hate the saying, "How bad do you want it?". Not because I don't believe it, because as someone who used to quit on myself often, it made me feel like a failure. Hearing that now, it doesn't upset me. It reminds me that things worth fighting for take time. Let's talk about the latest BQ or Bust Plot twist!
29/04/1816m 51s

Ep 122: The Magic Is In The Doing

What do you do when you want to make your goal a reality more than anything else in the world but failure seems inevitable? What do you do when you've worked your butt off for something and find yourself derailed? Or what if you just can't seem to get out the door? Today I want to talk about the magic of doing and what happens when you focus on taking one step at a time.
21/04/1820m 21s

Ep 121: Do You Believe You Will Succeed?

Self Efficacy: One's belief in one's ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task. On today's episode, I want to talk about unlikely runners and what it's like for those of us who don't have an athletic background to get and stay active.
20/04/1819m 6s

Ep 120: Convincing Myself I Don't Care

Seeing all the hype around Boston...I find myself throwing on my armor in an attempt to distance myself from feeling hurt, fear, or anything that reminds me that my impossible is still impossible. BQ or Bust started as a stunt. A silly way for me to share what it was like to take my marathon training seriously enough to try to run a terrifying time. But as the marathon tends to do, it took on a life of its own. One of my biggest defense mechanisms is to try to convince myself that I don’t care. By convincing myself that I don’t care, I think I won’t be hurt if things don’t go my way. Full disclosure, I’m finding myself doing that with BQ or Bust right now. I know there’s a lot to unpack, and I did my best to put my thoughts into this episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast but I want to be transparent. Things are going well. I’m feeling strong as hell and it really doesn’t make sense why I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t care...but here we are. I think whenever things start to feel real and the stakes get bigger, its hard not to want to run from the possibility of failure. But like I’ve learned time and time and time and time and time and time again, the only way you can ever fail is if you fail to give it your all. Easier said than done. I know. This shit is hard. And as I read the stories that are submitted to @shecanandshedid from women running for their lives, I’m reminded that it’s not about the time or the goal. It’s about my why. Why I run. Why I push myself. And why I want to be brave enough to care. It’s scary. It’s all very scary. And hard. One step at a time. No regrets. No excuses. I can and I am. I can and I will.
10/04/1815m 38s

Ep 119: BQ or Bust Check In With Coach Honerkamp

Coach John Honerkamp is back to talk what went down at my check in half marathon and to take your running and training questions! Today, we're talking about getting uncomfortable, smart racing, getting faster, why round 3 of BQ or Bust feels different, and we're taking your questions about how to kick ass and take names!  BQ or Bust is happening! It's going to happen! I am FINALLY going to make my impossible possible! For more information on Coach John and to get in touch, CLICK HERE, or you can follow him on Facebook and Instagram.
03/04/1846m 49s

Ep 118: Confidence, Insurance Policies, and Self Efficacy

Sports Psychologist Dr. Bob is back to answer your questions and help me unlock the confidence runner I'm too afraid to become. Today, we're talking about why we shy away from giving our best effort, what he wants me to do to actually become a confident runner, why it's important to define our personal bests, and what self-efficacy is and why it's important to runners of all levels.
24/03/1848m 18s

Ep 117: I FINALLY Gave Myself Permission To Succeed

For years, I've been trying to figure out how to simply believe in myself and the work I've done. Coaches and friends would tell me to look at my training log when I doubt myself but it's never helped that nagging feeling that what I'm trying to accomplish is impossible and unattainable. Instead of trusting my work, I wait for a miracle or the perfect day.  It only took 4 years to get here but it finally happened, I FINALLY gave myself permission to succeed. Ep 116: Running Never Gets Easier

"I'm not a very good runner." After a check in with sports psychology wizard Dr. Bob, I decided to go back and watch my YouTube vlog BQ or Bust that featured Dr. Bob over the last two years. I was watching myself talk to Dr. Bob about the fact that I'm just not a very good runner. And it's true. I know when I'm good at something and I am not a naturally gifted runner.  But that's the reason running changed my life. It gave me a way to apply myself, learn, progress, and fail when I'm not naturally good at something. But the truth is, natural runner or struggle, runner, it never gets easier. And that's why running is so damn empowering. Ep 115: Choosing Not To Suffer With Dr. Bob

Anyone who has ever gotten uncomfortable during a run can testify to the fact that running is  a mental sport. Yes, physical strength and endurance are important factors but if your mental game is off,  a single minute can feel like forever. Back in August of 2016, I was struggling to push through my doubts, self-imposed limits, and discomfort. I was a few months into my crazy marathon training and while I knew that trying to BQ wasn't going to be easy, I didn't understand just how difficult and painful it was going to be. So I called my uncle Dr. Robert Corb, AKA Dr. Bob, a licensed Psychologist who specializes in Sports. Not only is Dr. Bob an accomplished Sports Psychologist, he's the former director of UCLA's Sports Psychology program.  In this episode of my vlog from 2016, Dr. Bob explains to me that the issue isn't that I'm uncomfortable or pushing through the pain. Pain and discomfort are to be expected, the issue is that I'm suffering which isn't going to help me crush my goal. He went on to talk about the concept of Acceptance Theory and how accepting and knowing that even though it isn't going to be comfortable, that it's up to me to figure out how to enjoy my training runs even when it hurts.  If you've ever wondered what it's like to work with a sports psychologist, this is a really great starting place. ENJOY!  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 114: Dr. Bob and Thinking Like An Athlete

Ever wonder what it would be like if an amateur runner had the help of a sports psychologist? Meet Dr. Bob! The former head of Sports Psychology at UCLA and a licensed psychologist, Dr. Bob has helped me battle some of my toughest mental battles. Today, he's checking in with me as I approach my second Boston Marathon qualifying attempt. We talk how to power through when I'm struggling, what tips he has for unlocking that feeling of effortlessness I am always chasing, and what I can do to set myself up for strong training runs.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 113: Comparing Losses and Pain

Today I want to talk about the end game that is comparing or ranking your loss and pain to someone else's. Let's talk about what it means to be compassionate not only towards yourself but to others as well. Because it's pretty damn hard to do when you're struggling to put one foot in front of the other or survive a loss that is unimaginable.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 112: How You Talk To Yourself Is How You See Yourself

The easiest way to sabotage yourself is to believe the BS narrative you tell yourself that you’re not good enough.  BREAK THE CYCLE! How you talk to yourself is how you'll see yourself. Celebrating and building yourself up requires consistent work. Don’t cheat yourself from being all that you already are. Here's how... Ep 111: Screw Likable, Be You

Look, there’s only one ingredient to likeability and that’s being authentically yourself. EASIER SAID THAN DONE! Why? Because true connection is rooted in truth, bravery, and trust. And when you're feeling unsure of yourself or like an outsider or other, it can feel impossible to believe that who you are is enough. BUT IT IS. Let's talk about why being liked by many isn't as important as it is to have people in your corner who like you for who you are. Scars, imperfections, beauty and all. Ep 110: Be Brave

Do you ever find yourself stepping just outside of your comfort zone necessary? Stopping yourself from taking chances or risks to build strength and confidence? Today I want to talk about what it means to be brave when the chance of failure is high. And why it matters to show up for yourself and believe in yourself and your truth when all you want to do is retreat and hide.    Check out the She Can & She Did podcast on iTunes and Google Play!  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! EP 2: SELF CONFIDENCE

Self Confidence, we all want it, we all deserve it, and yet we all struggle to acquire it.  WHY? WELL, it's because we're not very good at celebrating ourselves. So let's talk about life, liberty, and the pursuit of your best, strongest, happiest and most vulnerable self.

Ep 109: YES I CAN!!!!

Focusing on the process and working on fostering a positive attitude isn't easy. And if you're struggling or feeling particularly frustrated or overwhelmed, it's practically impossible! Ep 108: What Are You Moving Towards

Moving deliberately with purpose. THAT is what I want to talk about. WHY? Because it doesn't matter if you're getting started, getting back into something, trying to believe in yourself, or maintaining motivation, sticking with your goals is a struggle. That's why checking in and taking a minute to figure out what you're moving towards can be such a game changer.  SO let's start with a question...WHAT ARE YOU MOVING TOWARDS?! Ep 106: It's Not All About Race Day

About a month ago, I decided I wasn't going to spend time on Twitter. The pessimism, the rage, the backhanded jabs, it was contagious. I felt myself going there only to complain or make really stupid jokes and I didn't like how I felt scrolling through my news feed so I deleted the app off my phone and decided to only check it once or twice a week.  Best decision I ever made. But a few days ago, I jumped on to check on things and saw a tweet and a retweet that I want to talk about. It said "Training is not the test. The race is the test." And I find it disappointing that people in the community again fail to see that yes, for some people race day IS the test. But for the vast majority of the running community, everything is a test.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Some studies show that announcing your goals doesn't help you make them a reality. In fact, they found that it kind of does the opposite! So why did I launch "Make Your Impossible Possible" and ask you to announce your goals? A SUPPORT SYSTEM! It's hard to believe in yourself when you don't have a strong history of success. It's hard to get started! Or to keep fighting when you feel like you're crashing and burning. But it's true what the platitude suggests, we really are stronger together. Ep 102: The New Years Resolution You Should Actually Make

Resolve: 1. Find a solution to a problem. 2. Decide firmly on a course of action Used in a sentence: "In 2018, I'm resolving to make impossible possible because I believe in myself and I refuse to stand in my own damn way! I AM STRONG! I AM POWERFUL! AND I CAN DO HARD THINGS!" She proclaimed as the clock stroke midnight on New Year's Eve. Every year, people set resolutions to kick the new year off on the right foot. And two-six weeks in, they give them up. WHY? Because resolving to make a change is hard! That's why in 2018, I want you to resolve to make impossible possible with me. I want you to step outside of your comfort zone and get ugly as we set out to find what we're capable of.  Confused? Give today's podcast a listen. Ep 100: Latoya Snell on Empowering Women Post NYC Marathon Heckling

At mile 22 of the New York City Marathon, the unthinkable happened. A man had the audacity to say to avid marathoner and ultra-marathoner Latoya Shauntay Snell, "It’s gonna take your fat ass forever, huh?”.  I first read about the interaction in Latoya's powerful piece, I'm a Plus-Size Runner and I Got Heckled at the NYC Marathon. (It's required reading. Besides being an incredibly brave and talented writer, Latoya writes what I wish so many people understood about running.) I think we can all agree that races are safe places. Regardless of size or pace, everyone who had the courage to put in the work and showed up on race day deserves respect.  But for so many of us, what happened to Latoya is our worst nightmare. To have someone shame us because of our size. It's disgusting and disappointing but I am so grateful for Latoya for being so open about why she runs and why she refuses to let that man define her.  For more Latoya, check her blog Running Fat Chef, Instagram, Facebook,  Twitter, and Tumblr. Ep 99: Overcoming A History Of Quitting

Sometimes, the hardest part about setting a goal is overcoming your fear of failure. And when you have a history of quitting on yourself, that fear can seem insurmountable. What's the use? Why try when you know it won't happen? It can happen. Today, I want to talk about what it takes to make the change and break the cycle. You really are capable of anything you put your mind to. Ep 98: Don't Let Anyone Write Your Story

It isn't easy to wear our hearts on our sleeves or to confidently march to the beat of our own drums. Regardless of what you do, there will always be someone who doesn't agree with what you're doing or who doesn't want to see you succeed. And when you're feeling strong and confident, the naysayers seem insignificant. But the second you doubt yourself, their voices can drown yours out. There’s a part in Brene Brown’s latest book Braving the Wilderness that really struck a chord with me. She writes,  “Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you don’t belong because you will always find it. Don’t walk through the world looking for evidence that you’re not enough because you will always find it. Our worth and our belonging are not negotiated with other people. We carry those inside of our hearts.” Today I want to talk about why it's important that we value our voices and write our own stories.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 97: The Power of Visualization

VISUALIZATION, it sounds hokey but truth be told, it works! Today I want to talk about setting goals and why it can feel so difficult to pull yourself out of a rut or change a pattern of behavior that feels impossible to break. But the secret weapon that can help you make whatever it is you’re working for a reality? Visualization. Why? Because it helps you see yourself break through your pre-defined, self-imposed limits. Ep 96: Sticks and Stones Lead To Change

Between miles 22 and 23 of the NYC Marathon, marathoner and ultramathoner Latoya Shauntay Snell encountered a white man who had the audacity to say to her, “It’s gonna take your fat ass forever, huh?”. We all know the saying sticks and stones may break our bones but words will never hurt us. But the truth is, words do hurt. It doesn't matter who is throwing them, they always hurt. Luckily, Latoya was able to shake off the verbal assault and write an incredibly powerful and empowering piece that took us a step towards change.  Today on the podcast, I don't just want to talk about the verbal attack, but the bigger problem, our issue with women and their shape and size. Luckily, women like Latoya are the face of change. They're showing the world that health and strength come in all shapes and sizes.   This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 95: Getting Back On The Horse, BQ or Bust Is Back

After I ran my first marathon, I promised myself that whenever I told myself that I wasn't capable of something, I had to give it a try. That's what brought me to my impossible, qualifying for the Boston Marathon. It may just be running, but working towards my impossible changed the way I live my life. From how I manage self-doubt to my fear of failure, I continue to learn how important it is to step outside of my comfort zone and dare to fail. Ep 94: Women vs. Success and Achievements

Why is it so hard for women to own their success and achievements? Well, turns out that success and likability are positively correlated for men and negatively correlated for women. Ironically, I've spent most of this year trying to figure out what I think success means. Why? Because I'm that 28-year-old who spends her time pondering her purpose. But here's what I've learned, regardless of how you define it until we decide that ambition, drive, strength, and power are beautiful, feminine qualities we should all aspire towards, we're going to go in circles. Fear is something that is always in the driver's seat whenever you’re getting ready to make a change or even just simply thinking about making a change. Right? From a fear of failure and even a fear of success to the fear of living up to other people's expectations, fear can be the thing that stops us from simply trying and seeing what happens. Ep 92: Step Outside Of Your Comfort Zone

I can't tell you how many times in my life I yearned to make a change. From losing weight to asking for help, I always felt alone and helpless. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is hard. It kicks your ass and demands that you give your best effort 100% of the time. But finding that motivation or seeing hope when you're struggling can feel impossible. Today's episode is all about what it means to step outside of your comfort zone. Ep 91: Balance Is Impossible

"Balance" it's that stupid word that we all chase around trying to find but no one really understands it's importance until after they've overextended themselves. Ever since my first marathon, I turned into a total runhole. I ate, slept, and breathed running. But this year, something changed. I needed space. I wanted to talk about anything but running. I realized that I needed to figure out how to make running something I loved to do instead of who I was. So today, I want to talk about balance. This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 90: Social Media, Curated Perfection, and FOMO

SOCIAL MEDIA, it's a wonderful yet equally dangerous evil. This past September, The Atlantic ran a sobering a piece called "Have Smartphones Destroyed A Generation?" that everyone should read. About a year after going viral, I realized I wasn't living my life but rather, in pursuit of curating my best life for social media. I knew something had to change so I set out to set some boundaries and find ways to keep my curated life as real as possible. Sounds impossible right? Let's talk about social media, curated perfection, and FOMO. This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 89: Taking A Chance On My Purpose

For the past few months, I found myself making this joke that I was in purgatory. Which is ridiculous because after four years, busting my ass, trying to get a seat at the table, I finally had one. I quickly realized that it wasn't that I was unhappy being apart of the running world, but that I was ready for more. Running has always and will always be a big part of my life. But running isn't who I am, it's just something that helps me put my strongest foot forward. The last few months, I've been working hard on my next chapter, She Can & She Did. I've dragged my feat, struggled to come to terms with putting myself out there and having no one care, and most importantly, defining what success looks like. But when it comes to taking a chance on my purpose, I realized that just like running, the only way I'll fail is if I fail to try.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 88: The Importance of Struggling

Anything worth doing is going to be hard. YES. But we need to talk about not shying away from the things we really suck at. Today on the podcast, I want to talk about why the fact that I struggle so much with running is why I continue to chase impossible goals. Sounds counter intuitive. Maybe even stupid. But hear me out... This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 85: Me Too...On The Run

This week, thousands of women shared their experiences with sexual harassment and assault using the hashtag #MeToo. But now what? There's a really great meme making the rounds online. It says "boys will be boys" but the second word 'boys' is crossed out and, "will be held accountable for their actions" is written below. Embroidery by Shannon DowneyCourtesy of Shannon Downey / @badasscrossstitch I know this is a really tough issue, but this movement can't end with women speaking up. We need to see change.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 84: Bouncing Back From Failure

Sometimes, even when you have every single tool in your toolbox, and you still fail or fall short making whatever you set out to do a reality, it’s hard not to question yourself. Why you’re working towards making your impossible goal, possible. You can't help but ask yourself if you’re good enough. If you’re cut out for it. If it’s worth it. Or if the disappointment and hurt are worth trying again. And the answer doesn’t always have to be a resounding, "Yes!". Here’s the value in having the courage to crash and burn after giving 100%: Eventually, you'll crawl out of the hell hole you find yourself in with a completely different outlook. You know how hard you can work. You know what it felt like to doubt yourself and prove yourself wrong. You see the power of hard work and persistence. And most importantly, you learn firsthand that anything worth doing isn't just going to be hard, but takes a hell of a lot of time, patience, and persistence.   Bouncing back from failure isn’t something you can do overnight. I don’t care how many Pinterest quotes you put onto your vision board, you can’t fight through the fog or pull yourself out of the shame cave until you’re ready. You can’t force yourself to move past it. When you’re ready to take the next step, you’ll know. And you’ll be able to see what you can do differently a hell of a lot more clearly. The only way you'll fail is if you fail to try. I truly believe that. Not every day is going to be the one you worked for. But as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other, anything is possible. Don't forget to subscribe to the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on iTunes (or you can listen to it on Google Play), and, if you're feeling extra incredible and amazing, I would really appreciate it if you could leave me a 5-star rating and review on iTunes!

Ep 83: Tina Muir on Health and Life Post Elite Running

Today on the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, my friend and a badass who is changing the running game, Tina Muir. Tina recently made headlines when, at the top of her game as an elite runner, she decided to not only retire but open up about her struggle with amenorrhea as well. Tina's vulnerability and openness are two of the many reasons why so many women have joined her "Running for Real" community. From life post-retirement to what she hopes for her daughter (after 9 years without her period, Tina is now pregnant with a little girl!!!), this episode is a candid and honest talk about what it's like to run for your life at the top level. For more Tina, you can find her on TinaMuir.com, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.  CRAAAAZZZYYYY how things can change in a year!! I wasn't sure whether to post this, feeling self conscious, and thought people might react negatively, but oh well, here's to being brave.🙊 This time a year ago, I was about to run the #londonmarathon, I ended up smashing my PB of 2:41 to run a 2:37 and finish 2nd in the championship section of the race. I don't know how much I weighed, but I was in the best shape I had been in, both physically and mentally. One year later, and quite a few pounds heavier, I have not run in almost 5 weeks. But I CHOSE this. Last year I achieved some big goals, but now I have an even more important one, recovering from amenorrhea and getting my body ready for a family. I'm not gonna lie and say it's not hard looking at that photo and seeing me right now, BUT I am learning to love my curves, and I am definitely enjoying the food I am eating 😋🍰🎂🍦🍪🍩, allowing myself to let loose, rest, and heal after 14 years of complete dedication.🏃‍♀️ There are many ups and downs in every stage of life, but even in that moment, like that one on the left, I still wanted to look better, I still wasn't totally happy. I don't think we ever will be, all we can do is love our bodies and respect them. I know I am not "big" by any means, but this comparison shows the difference. My body has a new journey to embark on, and I plan to embrace it as best I can. I'm still me, right? *hesitates to push publish*.....aaaand GO A post shared by Tina Muir (@tinamuir88) on Apr 22, 2017 at 9:38am PDT **Mentioned in the episode, the incredible Lauren Fleshman's letter, "Dear Younger Me: Lauren Fleshman". It doesn't matter if you're getting ready for your first or hundredth race, race day is always scary. Fear. Doubt. Anxiety. It's all there! Ep 81: Why We Have To Push Ourselves

Seizing the moment is really hard! And I’m always asked about how, after spending decades as the self-proclaimed former president of the "I f*cking hate running club", I was finally able to find a way to get and stay active. And the truth is, I didn't. I still struggle to get out the door. Running is hard. And painful. But what I learned was how to work towards goals that made me feel strong, empowered, and confident. Today, I want to talk about why we have to push ourselves every single day.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 80: No One Should Ever Be Made To Feel Unsafe

The running community is an inclusive, supportive, and incredible community to be a part of. But this is something that needs to be addressed, last week, I saw this comment on a photo I posted to my Instagram: “Wow I saw you run by, I had already finished 30 minutes before you and was watching the finishers. If I knew that was you I would have tripped your slow, cheating, banditting and felt justified like Antifa at a Trump rally. Your a disgrace to women who put in the work your no inspiration.”  Not only is it never acceptable to make someone feel unsafe, but we need to talk about shaming. Because that is not what I stand for. Ep 79: Don't Waste The Time You Have

After my brother passed away, my birthday became a tough day to get through. Grief is tough. And on the day where I'm supposed to be celebrating my life, it's hard not to think about how I spent another year without him. But one thing his passing has done is make me aware of how fleeting our time really is. Today, I want to talk about how important it is that we make the most out of the time we have. Ep 77: Facing Your Fears, Belonging and Feeling Grateful

You are hardest on yourself. That's what I've consistently wrestled with over the last four months. Whenever I'm feeling insecure, I project the awful things I say to myself onto others. And when I do it enough, it's hard to remember that it's all make believe. But it always comes back to me and what I say to myself. Getting the chance to remind myself that I can prove myself wrong if I just get out of my own god damn way, it's a game changer. And it's a lesson I feel like I've had to learn over and over and over again. I have so many thoughts from this weekend's @takethebridge. But a huge, exciting, strong, and really painful step forward happened on Friday. And it would not have happened without a handful of badass women who helped me face my fears. I'm doing a lot of mind unpacking on the #RunSelfieRepeat podcast this week. It's a big week. 🤘🏽Give yourself permission to succeed. #SportsBraSquad ❤️ #badassladygang 📸 @baklinerunning A post shared by Kelly Roberts (@kellykkroberts) on Sep 10, 2017 at 6:45pm PDT Belonging is something I've struggled with when it comes to running. And how I feel about myself is directly related to how included or insecure I feel about my place. When I’m feeling confident, doing the work to feel confident, and surrounded by people who challenge me and who want to see me put my strongest foot forward, it’s easy to ignore the people who try to make me feel like I don’t belong. But the truth is, that's not always the case. I've been struggling over the last few months and it wasn't until I had the support of a bunch of women that I finally found a way to address it. Ep 73: The Secret to Fighting Through Self Doubt

There's a secret weapon for those moments when you want to give up or pull back. What is it? MANTRAS. I remember as a new runner, Googling mantras, trying to find the one mantra that would help stick it out when I wanted to quit. That's when I discovered how important it is to find a word or phrase that is deeply personal to you. Let's talk about the secret to fighting through self-doubt. Ep 70: Expectations, Staying present, and Waiting

From waiting for the "right" time to get started, to struggling with doubt when you're slowly putting one foot in front of the other, there's nothing easy about being patient. But there's a difference between persistence and holding back. Ep 69: Take The Shame Out Of Quitting

Quitting is always an option, but so is going forward. Before running, I would quit anything I struggled with. And despite the fact that running is still, to this day, really, really f*cking hard, it reminds me that I can't shy away from the things that I have to work for. It helps me remember that I'm not a quitter.  Across my social channels, from Facebook, Instagram, to Strava, I’ve asked people who, like me, come with a history of giving up, what changed for them. And their answers are really eye opening because this isn’t one size fits all. It’s another reason why all of our stories are so important. I asked - "Serious question. This one is for anyone who has struggled to get and stay active in the past. What changed? Did you ever quit? If so, what made you want to try again? And most importantly, what made you want to stick with it? We often talk about the advice we'd give to someone struggling but I want to hear your struggle. What did you go through and what kept you fighting?" Your answers were honest, vulnerable, unique, but shared the same commonality, running and being active changed the way you saw and felt about yourself and what you were capable of. Ep 68: Why Do We Hate Working Out?

Do you hate working out? Well, you're not alone. As former President of the "I f*cking hate running club", I get it. But something has to change. Last week, after reading this article. "Losing It in the Anti-Dieting Age: The agonies of being overweight — or running a diet company — in a culture that likes to pretend it only cares about health, not size.", my brain was in overdrive. Here are my two cents: Until we can help people find ways to get active that have nothing to do with weight loss, then people will continue to dread working out.  This episode was brought to you by the website hosting platform that made it easy for this not so tech savvy scaredy cat possible to create a blog and a podcast, SQUARESPACE! Ep 67: To The Men Who Call Me Fat

Dear man who found it appropriate to send me this email, Once upon a time, your words would have cut me like valyrian steel. Today? They remind me how important it is to change the way we see strength. Because what you call fat, I know can run a marathon in 3 hours in 41 minutes. I hope one day you can obtain the strength I've worked tirelessly for. Until then, know that I will spend the rest of my life empowering the women you hope to shame. You will lose. You already are. The #SportsBraSquad is strong as hell. See you at the finish line. I'll be the one giving you a high five when you get there. #RunSelfieRepeat A post shared by Kelly Roberts (@kellykkroberts) on Jun 26, 2017 at 8:15pm PDT After sharing one of the many inappropriate emails I receive about the #SportsBraSquad and my weight, the story made headlines. And as I was answering an editor's questions about how the email made me feel, I realized that I've normalized the act. We need to talk about fat shaming online and how it's never appropriate to comment on someone's weight. And then, what you need to do to build your body confidence. Ep 66: Overcoming Burnout

You're stressed, running on fumes, depressed, anxious, overwhelmed, and feeling stale and stuck. Sound familiar? It's what happens when you work at an unsustainable pace and finally come up for air. And that's the state I've been fighting through over the past three months. So, what changed? How did I overcome burnout? A lot of patience and I finally stopped fighting it and I gave myself permission to be where I was. So, let's talk about that destructive boogeyman that haunts my dreams, burnout. Ep 64: Grit and Living Your Life Purposefully

Grit, a personality trait wherein a badass demonstrates passion and perseverance toward a goal (or just life in general because life is hard) despite being confronted by significant obstacles and distractions.  This week, I was being interviewed for an upcoming campaign and I sat in a room with a production team, talking about how running changed the way I see myself and what I'm capable of, I kept coming back to grit. Because it wasn't until I started running that I learned why I couldn't run from my problems, I had to lean into the discomfort. But running taught me that even when something feels impossible or insurmountable, if you can find the patience to keep fighting, you'll learn what it means to live your life purposefully. And that gift will change your life.  Share your story! Go to Squarespace.com, take that leap of faith and make your next move! Ep 62: Size Aint Nothing But A Number

Growing up, my size was always something I attached shame too. I yearned to be smaller. And back in May, while in Seattle with my sponsor Oiselle for a Girls On Track Event where we gave out sports bras and education about boobs and changing bodies to young girls, I kept seeing women and girls alike feel insecure about their size. When I’d suggest a size and show them how to fit it, I’d recognize the pain in their face before they asked for a sports bra two or three sizes smaller. Our sizes and our weight is nothing to be ashamed about. In fact, size aint nothing but a number. Last week, I read an article on Shape.com titled, “Why America Hates Fat People, The Feminist Take” and it made me want to throw my phone into the East River. Today, I need to talk about taking the shame away from our sizes because we can make a difference. We can take the shame away from our weight and sizes. But change doesn’t happen overnight. From the conversations we have with our daughters, families, friends, coworkers, within our communities, and even the ones we have online, this is a conversation that needs to be happening. And it needs to be happening often. Now use your voice, make your next move, and share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off your purchase of your very own PERSONAL domain address and website! Take that leap of faith and shoot me an email so I can sign your praises! EP 61: Embracing Where You're At 101 With Sports Psychologist Dr. Bob

Why am I running? Why is running and getting motivated to run so hard? I'm coming back from an injury/break and I can't stop comparing and feel defeated about the fact that I used to run so much faster and stronger, WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Why am I embarrassed about my pace? And why is quitting or throwing in the towel always an option? WELL, those are just a few of the very many things Dr. Robert Corb, the former Director of Sports Psychology at UCLA and a licensed Psychologist, and I talk about in this episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast. Because the truth is, I'm finally ready to talk to him about how hurt I am about what happened at the end of BQ or Bust. I feel unfocused. And angry. Luckily, Dr. Bob knows how to pull me out of that rabbit hole.  Share your story! Ep 60: Finding The Courage To Own Your Story

Want to know what’s hard? Finding the courage to own our stories and our truths when people spread lies or say things to hurt us. Today on the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, I want to talk about something that happened this weekend that helped me realize why it’s so important to see the strength in both myself and my story.  Share your story! Ep 59: We Have To Show Up

There's no such thing as the right time to get started. Showing up when you're intimidated, unprepared, or getting started is terrifying. I'll be honest, I was really intimidated to show up to a Strava "My Mile" event last week. For the first time in months, I hesitated when I went to take my shirt off. It never ceases to blow my mind how quickly that little voice that says, "You shouldn't be here", "You're not fast enough to be here", or "look around, your best isn't good enough" can go from a whisper to a roar. I can sit here all day and tell you that all you have to do is show up but I'd be doing all of us a disservice if I didn't acknowledge how scary it can be to show up. That being said, we have to push ourselves to show up. The only way we can control that inner critic is if we show up. Never let anyone tell you that you're not good enough. Not friends, not family, not strangers, not trolls online, and especially not your own voice that cuts the deepest.  Let's talk about how important it is to show up. Share your story! Go to Squarespace.com, take that leap of faith and make your next move! Use offer code Kelly for 10% off your own website and personal domain address.  Don't forget to subscribe to the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on iTunes or Google Play, and leave a 5 star rating and review on iTunes. Ep 58: The Struggle To Get and Stay Motivated Is Real

Struggling to find the motivation to get started? OF COURSE YOU ARE! You're human! And for so many of us who are doing our best to get active or do something that we don't think we're capable of doing, the struggle can be soul crushing. Right now, I'm struggling to get back on the horse. I took a lot of time off after I crashed and burned during the London Marathon and right now, I kind of feel like I'm back at square one. So, let's talk about the struggle to get and stay motivated!  Now, share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off. Ep 57: The Power Of Storytelling

What do you do when your community tries to define who you are and what you do? That's the position I found myself in recently and after speaking up for myself (despite the fact that no one thought to include my voice), I was made to feel trivial because of what I do. I'm a storyteller. And it's because I started this blog and and podcast that I found a way to tell my story and find my voice and purpose.  Today I want to talk about the power of storytelling and the dangers of those who try to define, delegitimize, and define us. Share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off your purchase of your very own PERSONAL domain address and website! Today on the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, I have a very special guest. This woman is someone who I consider to be a true game changer in the running community. She's a co-leader of the Boston November Project tribe and in addition to being the physically strongest woman I know, she just might be the kindest as well.  Join me and this incredible and possibly immortal woman, Emily Saul, in an insightful conversation about strength! Ep 55: Mistakes, Online Bullying, and Forgiveness

What do you do when trust is broken? When you make a mistake and discover that you're being vilified online? Do you hide your head in the sand? Pretend you didn't do anything wrong? Or own your mistake and ask for forgiveness? It's been a rough few days. The cyber bullying I'm facing is nothing short of horrifying and disappointing and in this episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, I want to talk about my mistake, the bullying, and forgiveness.  Mistakes happen. I'm not going to pretend that I didn't let myself, my sponsors, or all of you down. A part of me wants to retreat and give up. But my mission to give the transformative and empowering gift of running to women everywhere is so much bigger than my hurt and my fears. So let's talk about mistakes, online bullying, and forgiveness.  Thinking about starting your own website or blog? Ep 54: Insecure As Hell But I'm On The Cover Of A Magazine

You know, this may sound crazy, but I was pretty awful to myself and my body the weeks leading into this photo shoot. I was terrified about being on the cover of a magazine in my sports bra. So much so, that I almost went on a juice cleanse in an attempt to lose as much weight as I could as quickly as possible. Look, I know I'm the leader of the #SportsBraSquad but I'm still human. I'm still working and fighting to be the strongest version of myself possible both mentally and physically.  I'm so proud of this cover because it was so terrifying for me to do. But it fills me with hope to know that we're changing the way the women see strength. So, let's talk about how TERRIFYING and surreal it was to shoot the cover of Women's Running Magazine! Now, share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off. Had I not have launched Run, Selfie, Repeat on Squarespace, I 100% believe that I would have given up on making my own website. You won't regret it. Ep 53: What Are You Worth?

What are you worth? Take a second to grab a pen of paper because during today's episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, I want you to write down your answer. I want you to ask yourself what your worth is, what makes you stand out, and why you matter. Because I know this is something I struggle with, I often find myself selling myself short. And sure, sometimes it's because self deprecating jokes here and there keep me human but sometimes, it's because I actually doubt myself.  Today is all about inner confidence and trusting our worth. So buckle up, because this episode is an important one. Now, use your voice and share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off your purchase of your very own PERSONAL domain address and website! MAKE YOUR NEXT MOVE. Ep 51: FAT

On a car ride back from a family reunion, we listened to episode 589 of This American Life titled "Tell Me I'm Fat". The episode started off with this eye opening statistic-- ⅓ of Americans are classified as overweight and another ⅓ are obese. And then, the four acts went on to pose the idea that maybe it’s time to rethink the way we see being fat. YES. OF COURSE IT'S TIME TO RETHINK THE WORD FAT. The fact most people who are struggling with their weight, fat or not, struggle with such intense feelings of shame, self loathing, and disgust is unacceptable. I’ve lost so many years of my life consumed with how much I weighed, convinced that I needed to lose X amount of weight in order to be beautiful or happy. I don't care how many times I have to say it, strength doesn't look a certain way, it feels a certain way.  We don't just need to change the way we feel about the word fat, but we need to change the way we (specifically women) see themselves. Today's episode is a tough one but it's an important one. Thinking about starting your own website or blog? Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off your purchase of your personal domain address and website. Squarespace is the best and easiest platform out there. Ep 50: 70% of Women Don't Like Their Bodies And It's Not OK

This week, I'm in Seattle visiting with Oiselle talking Girls on Track (GOT Bras) and what we can do empower the sisterhood. (Hint Hint -- National #SportsBraSquadDay is coming. June 24th. Mark your calendars.) One of the serious badasses here at Oiselle, Megan Murray, shared some sobering statistics with me that broke my heart and it is my hope that they make you really, really angry as well. Ready? The National Eating Disorders Association found that 70% of women report they don’t like their bodies, and that 89% of women have dieted by age 17. THOSE NUMBERS AREN'T OK. Here's what I want to ask you, at what point will we be happy? What will it take for you to realize that you aren't just good enough but that you're already the best version of yourself possible? I need to talk about what we can do to make this number disappear.   Now, find your voice and share your story! Go to Squarespace.com and use offer code Kelly for 10% off your purchase of your very own PERSONAL domain address and website. Squarespace is the greatest. I say that because I use it. Ep 49: Project 1:59 Breaking The 2 Hour Barrier Together

For hundreds of thousands of runners, breaking 2 hours in the half marathon is the goal they fight for. It requires grit, determination, perseverance, and patience because for so many of us, it takes year to break through that mental barrier. And this weekend, after we launched Project 1:59, I saw first hand how difficult it is to believe in yourself when you don't think you can do it. I want to take a second to celebrate all the runners who try, fall short, and dare to try time and time again.  If you're chasing that sub 2 hour half marathon, join the Project 1:59 club on Strava and share your story! Let us know where you're racing and what breaking 2 means to you. Ep 48: Live For Today

Live every single day like it could be your last. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. This morning, one of my friends sent me the Tedx talk called "The Magic Of Not Giving A F**k" by Sarah Knight. In her speech, Sarah talks about how to stop spending time you don’t have doing things you don’t want to do. But here's the thing, it's really hard to put yourself first. Ep 45: Struggling To Figure Out "What's Next"

I'm in the throws of the post marathon blues and I feel totally and completely disoriented and lost. And I can’t escape this idea of what’s next. I hate "what's next". I love setting goals and working towards something. And right now, I don't have a tangible finish line to move towards. And I feel so much pressure to have my next chapter figured out and the truth is, I don't really know what's next. And I'm embarrassed to admit that.  What do you do when you’re in transition, thinking about what’s next, or when you’re feeling numb? Ep 44: It's OK To Feel Disappointed In Yourself

Anyone who has ever chased a goal that felt intimidating and unattainable, put in the work, and then either stood in their own way or "failed" trying knows how disappointing it can be to fall short. After reading through a few billion emails from readers and listeners urging me not to feel disappointed in how I handled the London Marathon, we need to talk about the fact that it’s ok to feel disappointed in yourself. What's not ok is to take disappointment and turn it into a sign that you should give up.  Nobodies perfect. We all make mistakes. What I experienced during the London Marathon isn't something I'm particularly proud of but when I was out there on the course, struggling to find a way not to give up, I remembered what Sophie Walker had said during the Women Run Strong event. Sophie told a story about how one particularly rough day, she realized that no one was going to save her. She had to save herself.  Sometimes the cards are stacked against us. Regardless of what happens, there's no such thing as game over. When you stumble, you have to give yourself permission to feel whatever it is you're feeling. Feel disappointed. Or sad. But remember, set backs don't define you. They're just apart of the journey.  The only way you'll fail is if you fail to try. No regrets, no excuses. Enjoying the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE subscribe on iTunes or Google Play, leave a 5 star rating and review on iTunes, and tell everyone you know about it!

Ep 43: Doubt, Identity, and Vulnerability with Bad Ass Ultra Runner Devon Yanko

Devon and I on the Women Run Strong Panel before the 2017 London Marathon.  As if running 30-100 miles (often up mountains) isn't super human enough, imagine being one of the greatest ultra runners in the world. Well, Devon Yanko doesn't have to imagine it, she is one of the strongest ultra runners around.  I could sit here and list her many accolades (OK, I'll list a few--from placing third in the 2016 Western States 100 to qualifying for and competing in the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials (CLICK HERE to see Devon's race highlights), Devon is known for kicking ass and taking names both on the roads and on the trails. But what I love about Devon isn't just that she knows how to run her heart out, it's that she runs with her heart. I know that sounds cheesy but I could sit and talk to Devon about life, running, set backs, break throughs, feeling defeated, inspired, or what it means to be a strong woman all day long. It's so rare to find professional athletes open up about what it's like to be a leader in the field and still have everything they say be so incredibly relatable. But with Devon, it doesn't matter if you're an ultra marathoner or if you just got bit by the running bug, she'll remind you that we all struggle. But if you take it one step at a time and invest in believing in yourself, you can't lose. CLICK HERE to watch Life In A Day, the incredible documentary shot during Western States. (It's incredible.) To learn more about Devon, you can keep up with her on Instagram, Twitter, on her website, or on Strava.

Ep 42: Royally Ashamed: The London Marathon

To say that the London Marathon wasn't my day is an understatement. I've never wanted to quit a race so badly in my life. But despite the fact that I didn't get the race I wanted, I still believe that the only way you can fail is if you fail to try. Last year, I set an impossible goal. And after one failed attempt, I was ready to make impossible, possible. Do I regret setting an impossible goal? Or why do I feel like I'm braving a breakup? Let's talk about what happened during the London Marathon. **Link to Women's Running article.  Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play! Ep 40: How Badly Do You Want It

How badly do you want it? That is a question that took the wind out of my sails during my last huge attempt to make impossible, possible. Because I wasn't mentally ready to take the gloves off and fight with every piece of hope I had, I thought that because I was struggling, I didn't want it badly enough. Today, I know better. I know that how badly do you want it isn't a question to save for you big day, it comes down to right now. How can you fight through doubts and set backs every single day. With just days left until my second attempt to try to qualify for the Boston Marathon, a goal that's felt impossible for an entire year, I have a new outlook on how badly do you want it. Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play! And if you really want to give me some love, leave a 5 star rating and a review. (Thank you for doing that. It is very, very helpful.)

Ep 39: Health Is Not A Look, I's A Lifestyle

Here’s the thing about the body positivity movement, learning to love the skin you’re in and where you’re at today is Step 1. Because if you can’t look in the mirror and see how beautiful you really are today, you'll never be happy. Building a positive body image takes time. But here’s Step 2, you can’t just tell yourself you love where you’re at, you have to love yourself enough to fight for a healthier and stronger tomorrow. That means making a conscious effort to fuel your body with the proper portion sizes of healthy foods. Or finding ways to get active that don't feel like torture.  Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play! And if you really want to give me some love, leave a 5 star rating and a review. (Thank you for doing this. It is very, very helpful.)

Ep 38: Running Unapologetically

Running will teach you to live your life unapologetically because you have absolutely nothing to prove to anyone but yourself. Whether you're running for alone time or a way to redefine what you're capable of, there's no better way to feed your soul than setting an impossible goal and working towards the starting line one step at a time. Let's talk about what it means to run apologetically.  Enjoying the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast? Why not subscribe on iTunes or Google Play! Ep 37: Set Backs, Speed Bumps, and Detours

After working tirelessly towards a goal, it can be devastating when the unexpected happens. Maybe it's an injury, or you get sick, or maybe your car won't start before a big interview. If there's one thing we can all count on it's that we have to expect the unexpected. But even when we know that set backs, speed bumps, and detours are inevitable, they are always difficult to manage. Sports Psychology wizard Dr. Bob joins us to talk about what it means to do your best when you're struggling to think your best is good enough.  Enjoying the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast? Ep 36: Expectations, Perceptions and The Time Chris Heuisler Thought I Would Be A Narcissist

Do you ever feel pressure to act a certain way to live up to other people's expectations? Because I do. In today's episode, I talk about how we perceive ourselves, how we perceive our online presence, and my good friend Chris Heuisler joins us to talk about he thought I was going to be a narcissist before he met me. Like the old saying goes, don't judge a book by it's cover...right? And if you're enjoying the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, why not subscribe on iTunes or Google Play! And if you really want to show it some love, leave a 5 star rating and review on iTunes!  **And also, thank you Chris for answering my phone call at the drop of a hat and sharing my favorite story. Ep 35: Waiting For Your Life To Start

Sometimes when everything we're working towards feels so huge and overwhelming, it's hard not to want to take a step back and wait for the right time to try again. Or if you're struggling to find your purpose or path, it's hard not to feel like you're just floating through space. Regardless of what you're going through, if you feel like you're waiting for your life to get started, today's episode is for you. Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play! Ep 34: Under Pressure

It isn't easy to take a risk or put yourself out there. Maybe it's asking for a promotion, applying for a new job or raise, asking someone out, telling someone that you love them, making a  healthy lifestyle change, or going for a BQ, if there's one thin you can count on it's to expect the unexpected. But sometimes the hardest part isn't the risk itself, it's the pressure that comes with it. Do you feel like you're drowning under the pressure? Me too. Let's talk about it.  If you haven't already, subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play and I would be over the moon with gratitude if you would be so kind as to give it a 5 star review.

Ep 33: Give Yourself Permission To Survive

I've been going through the journal I kept after my younger brother Scott passed away. Towards the end of that first year, I started writing about whether or not I'd ever be able to find happiness again. Because up until that point, I had struggled to understand both how I felt and how I thought other people wanted me to act. And eventually, I realized that it was up to me to give myself permission to feel happy again. Permission. It’s a tough one because I think we all fall into this trap of expectations. From breakups, divorces, getting fired or let go, to even falling short of a goal, sometimes we act the way we think we're supposed to act or feel the things we think we're supposed to feel instead of just letting ourselves cope.  So, let's talk about what it means to give yourself permission to not just survive, but thrive. Ep 32: What Are You Insecure About?

It all started when I realized that my weight on my State ID card is 140 pounds. Now I'm not even close to 140 pounds on the best day but I was instantly transported back to the 16 year old version of myself.  And it made me think about how insecure I used to be about my weight. I still am today, but it's different. Today I know my own strength and while I sometimes fumble, I mostly strut. So let's talk about what we're insecure about and how not to let our insecurities ruin our lives!  Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play! And if you really want to give me some love, leave a 5 star rating and a review. (Thank you for doing this. It is very, very helpful.)

Ep 31: Embracing the New Powersuit with Sally Bergesen

If you haven't heard of the force of nature that is Sally Bergesen before today, allow me to give you some backstory. 10 years ago, Sally founded Oiselle (pronounced wa-zell), a female apparel line designed by women, for women. Over the past 10 years, Sally has been a voice for both Women's rights as well as Athlete's rights and is a true badass and crusader who is changing the sport of running.  In February 2016, Sally spoke at the Muse Conference about fashion, feminism, and the new powersuit.  Put your big girl powersuit on (you too dudes) because in this episode of the RSR podcast, the founder and CEO of Oiselle, Sally Bergesen joins us for a discussion on what exactly it means to embrace the new powersuit. What is your powersuit? Let me know in the comments below.  And if you're enjoying the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast, why not subscribe on iTunes or Google Play! Ep 30: You Don't Know You're Beautiful

When we feel beautiful, we look beautiful. If we know that, why do we struggle so much with our body image? Or why do we struggle to know that we're beautiful? SERIOUSLY? Why? Well, I'm back in NYC and I'm looking for love. And beauty is something I've been spending a lot of time thinking about. (Mostly because I don't like to change out of my Oiselle aero running tights...) But let's talk about beauty! I'm going to pose this question again. Let me know what you think in the comments below.  What do you think makes someone beautiful? Or what do you think makes you look and feel beautiful? Ep 27: Redefining Our Pre-Defined Limits

The more we define what we can and can't do, the worse off we are. One of the hardest parts about climbing self doubt mountain is redefining my pre-defined limits. It drives me crazy that before I even try, I can convince myself that I'm going to fail or fall short. One of my favorite parts about running is that it's a constant reminder that it's not about how badly you want something, it's about how hard you're willing to work for it. And you have to believe that you're stronger than you think. Let's talk about how running is helping me redefine my pre-defined limits. Let me know what your pre-defined limits are and how you work to redefine them in the comments below. Ep 26: BE BOLD The Pre Race Pep Talk

CAN WE TAKE A SECOND TO TALK ABOUT THE LITTLE VOICE IN THE BACK OF OUR HEADS THAT TELLS US WE AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH, SMART ENOUGH, QUALIFIED ENOUGH, OR PRETTY ENOUGH??? Woah, sorry about the caps. That was aggressive. BUT (sorry, there they are again), I want to talk about the fact that the only thing stopping us from making impossible possible.  Digging the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast? Ep 24: Running For Your Life

I think for so many people, running is so much more than a way to chase goals or stay in shape. We're literally running for our lives. But what happens when you start stepping out side of your comfort zone and start chasing an impossible goal? It's possible that the activity that felt like your lifeline may start to feel more like a chore and a job. Can you run for your life and still push your limits? I think it's a balance. Sometimes it's hard to find that balance but change doesn't happen overnight. Dare to fail. Dare to try something new. Don't just run, run for your life. And if you haven't already, don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on  iTunes or Google Play. :)

Ep 23: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story

There's a lyric in Hamilton, An American Musical that helped me find my voice, "Who lives, who dies, who tells your story." I was watching the Hamilton documentary on KPBS and listening to Lin Manuel Miranda talk about purpose and the importance of preserving our stories changed the way I approached my blog, Run, Selfie, Repeat. Up until that point, I was sharing bits and pieces of my story but I stuck mostly with funny articles.  All we have is our story. And for me, one of the hardest parts about my grief or even my struggle to lose weight was that I felt alone. So today, let's talk about our stories and why I think it's important that they're shared and preserved.  Whether you're looking to share your artwork, start a new business, or create your own running blog, take a chance on yourself and make your next move. I honestly don't think I would ever have been able to build a website had it not been for Squarespace. Between their customer support and their beautiful layouts, Squarespace has made the entire process of building a blog, website, portfolio, or business website almost effortless. Not convinced? Go to Squarespace.com for a free trial or use your offer code (KELLY) for 10% off your first purchase of website and personal domain address. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for joining me on this wild ride.

Ep 22: The Power of Patience

One of the hardest parts about adopting a healthy lifestyle or becoming a runner is that it can easily feel overwhelming or impossible. Pushing your limits and stepping outside of your comfort zone is hard! Results don’t happen overnight. It’s a slow progression and in the beginning, it's hard to trust that the painful work you’re putting in will eventually pay off. Let's talk about how the power of patience can help you kick ass and take names.   Don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on  iTunes or Google Play if you haven't already!

Ep 21: Am I An Athlete?

What makes someone an athlete?  That's what we're talking about because calling myself an athlete is something I've struggled with since day 1. From feeling "slow" to not feeling like I looked like an athlete, I've come up with every excuse in the book to keep myself from accepting that I am in fact an athlete. So let's talk about why I struggle to assume the identity of an athlete. Thoughts? What do you think makes someone an athlete? Let me know in the comments below! And don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on  iTunes or Google Play if you haven't already (insert salsa dancing emoji here).

Ep 20: What Is Success

How do you define success? Is it monetary? Something that can be measured by your societal status? Or, to steal from the musical Rent, can it be measured in moments and love? Next week, I move back to New York City and if I'm being honest, I'm anxious about the move. New York City is a really tough place to live and after last year, I thought I was done with being chewed up and spit out.  Let me know how you define success in the comments below! And don't forget to subscribe, rate, and review the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast on  iTunes or Google Play if you haven't already!

Ep 19: Online Shaming and Compassion

Online bullying and shaming is something I've lived with for the better part of the past 4 years I've spent building Run, Selfie, Repeat but my first experience with it shaped how I view online bullying and shaming for the rest of my life. Today, I'm all about advocating for compassion because regardless of how inexcusable someone's mistakes may be, I don't condone the schadenfreude that surrounds online witch hunts. I'm serious when I say that I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject. What are your thoughts on the lack of compassion in online comments and message boards? What can we do to make a change?  If you haven't already, take a second to subscribe to this podcast on iTunes or Google Play and, if you're feeling extra generous, I would be beside myself with gratitude if you would give it a 5 star review.

Ep 18: Chasing Impossible Goals with Dr. Bob

I started chasing my impossible goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon (BQ) in April 2016. In order to qualify, I had to take myself and training seriously in order to take my personal best time from 3 hours and 59 minutes down to 3 hours and 35 minutes.

Ep 17: Your Weight Doesn't Define You

For so many who struggle with their weight or feel insecure about their weight, it's hard not to let your weight define who you are. Here's the thing, your weight doesn't define you. It isn't your entire story, it's just a chapter or single book in the series that is your life.
03/03/1711m 33s

Episode 16: No More Before And After Photos

My issue with ‘Before and After’ photos is that they place the before photos in a context that implies that it’s unacceptable to look like what we look like in our after photos. Newsflash: If you're on a weight loss journey, it doesn't matter how much weight you lose because if you fail to work on a positive body image, you're in for a rude awakening when you look in the mirror and feel inadequate when you reach your goal.  I'm all for advocating for working towards the strongest version of yourself possible, but when we compare before and after photos, we're implying that there is something implicitly wrong or unattractive about our before selves. And it needs to stop.
28/02/179m 19s

Ep 15: My Grief

Loss and the grief that follows it is unimaginable. It's this awful club that none of us really want to belong to. But even though our pain and grief may manifest itself differently, we all know what it's like to have someone taken from us. It's unfair. But it's a huge part of who I am because when I lost my brother, I lost a piece of myself. There’s nothing I wouldn’t give to have my brother back. It took a long time for my anger to turn into gratitude, but with time and patience, my grief changed the way I see the world and live my life. And honestly, running is a lot like grief. Neither ever gets easier. You just get stronger. And with time, you learn to live with the pain.
25/02/1712m 1s

Ep 14: Rejection and Embracing No

Let's talk about my arch nemesis, rejection. I think rejection isn’t a death sentence, I think it’s just a reminder to work your patience muscle and keep fighting. Sometimes no does mean no but more often than not, no just means not right now. But because our relationship to rejection, failure, and no is built on sand, we crumble and fall apart whenever it happens.
24/02/1711m 2s

Ep 13: Stop Saying I'll Start Tomorrow

Stuck in the vicious, "I'll start tomorrow" cycle? I get it. I spent most of my life in it. I used to pray that I'd wake up motivated. Here's the thing, it's not just about how badly you want to make a change, sometimes life gets in the way! You're busy! Between work, family, friends, significant others, fur babies, and general life obligations, squeezing in a miserable 30 minute gym session or run can feel impossible. That's why it's all about getting active in ways that empower you.  Let's talk about saying yes to yourself and making a change once and for all.
23/02/177m 13s

EP 12: Authenticity and Our Need To Be Liked

Authenticity is a buzzy word that people LOVE to throw around. But it's hard to be authentic when we live in a hypercritical social media obsessed world where "likes" have created a new form of status and success. Figuring out who I was and giving myself permission to be "unlikable" took a hell of a lot of time. And social media hasn't made that quest any easier. But let's talk about authenticity and our quest for "likes".
22/02/1710m 16s

EP 11: Why We Struggle To Call Ourselves Real Runners

Struggling to call yourself a "real runner"? I had the hardest time believing that I was a runner for years! I know the “real runner” versus “fake runner/not real runner/imposter runner” (what do we call ourselves when we’re in runner limbo?) debate seems to be black and white, but for anyone struggling to assume the believe that they're a real runner, it’s a lot harder than just getting permission to call ourselves runners. Let's talk about the real runner struggle, shall we?
21/02/1711m 43s

EP 10: REDEFINING WHAT STRENGTH LOOKS LIKE

This morning, I had an article I wrote for Outside Magazine go live about challenging the health and fitness industry to redefine what strength looks like. But instead of feeling excited at the opportunity to share my story, I just felt disappointed because I don't think that I'll ever actually see the change that I want to see in the industry. All my life the health and fitness world has shown me what they think strength looks like and it's never looked like me. Today, I call bullshit. But I need your help to show the world that we're not motivated to acquire a body we don't have. We're motivated to pursue the strongest versions of ourselves. Strength doesn't look a certain way, it feels a certain way.
18/02/1711m 34s

EP 9: PERSONAL BEST VS. PERSONAL RECORD

Personal best (PB) and personal record (PR), two words that arguably mean the same thing. Or do they? In 2015, I learned firsthand what it felt like to run a personal best and it didn't really have anything to do with my pace. I was giving everything I had with joy every step of the painful way. It was the closest I'd ever come to embracing pain in a way that was actually fun. So when you're chasing a goal that feels impossible, fills you with doubt, and scares the crap out of you, the only way you'll give your best is if you're having fun because having fun forces you to be present.
17/02/1715m 8s

EP 8: GETTING COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE

Woof, where to even begin with this one. We talked doubt, we talked about taking your first steps, but what about pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone? And taking risks? Or getting comfortable being uncomfortable? Don't worry, I have all the thoughts on the subject. Let's chat.
16/02/1714m 0s

EP 7: HOW TO GET ACTIVE AND NOT HATE YOUR LIFE

I was never a very active person. To be honest, I spent most of my life working extra hard to avoid physical activity. Here's the thing, working out is really hard. And it really sucks in the beginning! From losing over 75 pounds to becoming a runner, here's what I've learned about falling in love with the fit life, becoming a runner, and not hating your life along the way.
15/02/1715m 0s

EP 6: WHAT I HATE ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA

Ever scroll through your feed and just bored? Or annoyed? I DO! Today, I want to talk about why we struggle to reveal our the parts of ourselves we feel compelled to conceal or embarrassed by in addition to our curated best of moments. It's brave to be vulnerable. And risky. But everyone loses when we fail to share our stories in their entirety.
14/02/1714m 31s

EP 5: SHAME

Do you ever find yourself getting irrationally upset when someone you love asks you about something you're insecure about? Or maybe you know someone who is going through something difficult and you didn't reach out. Now you're feeling guilty. No one wins when you play the shame game so let's talk about how to deal with shame because life is really hard.
12/02/1717m 37s

EP 4: FEAR OF FAILURE

Not sure where to start? Does your goal feel so intimidating that you don't even know if you should try? Or maybe you've tried and quit a few times and aren't sure if your heart can handle quitting one more time. WELL, today's episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast is for you!  Let's talk about how running helped me find the courage to continue to challenge myself by chasing impossible goals that scare the sh*t out of me!
11/02/1719m 2s

EP 3: LOVE, HEARTBREAK, AND BEING OK BEING SINGLE

There's a reason I rarely talk about love or my love life here on my blog. Today, I want to talk why I think that giving your love and opening yourself up to heartbreak is one of the bravest things you can do.
10/02/1712m 58s

EP 1: TAKING A LEAP OF FAITH

It's here! It's happening! Introducing the very first episode of the Run, Selfie, Repeat podcast! For my first episode, I wanted to talk about getting started when you don't really know what to do. How to take a leap or faith or a first step when just getting started feels impossible. And what better story to illustrate the topic than the story of how Run, Selfie, Repeat was born? Please do me a solid and subscribe to the Podcast on iTunes, give it a 12 star review (what? you can only do 5 star reviews? LAME.) OR HEY, maybe you're an Android user. CHECK CHECK CHECK it out on Google Play! And let me know in the comments what you'd like to see in future episodes!  IT'S ALL HAPPENING!
